Smart Home Sounds Ltd. Got mine yesterday, 10 June. Was super easy to replace the Beam. First upgrade to the new Sonos Controller 2. Setting up, grouping and updating was all a breeze. Oddly, it seemed to sound better after I had it running a while, but I think it's a subjective personal aural adjustment. Not all content is Atmos but playback is superb. The phase array on the Sub and Arc worked well, and my two added Sonos Ones SL completed the immersive experience. Yup, connected it via the ARC HDMI on the LG, but not the eArc.
I saw a couple of reviews (many where just "ads" and some like this video went a little deeper) since it was impossible to go at a store and play before buying it. I finally decided to buy it and replace my 6 years old polk audio soundbar and subwoofer. At first I was worried that I had to buy the subwoofer at the same time (because of the price tag of course) but after setting all up and playing with it a little bit, I was mind-blowed by the bass quality. One important thing that many videos and reviews don't talk about it is that if you have a tv that doesn't support arc or earc you have to make sure that your tv is capable of doing pass-through and that your tv is dolby capable. Other important thing and a lot of people does the same mistake as I did, when buying surround systems PLEASE make sure that all your devices have the proper configuration, as for example I had to change the sound settings on my Apple TV 4th Gen to dobly 5.1 and face the problem that my sonos arc was receiving stereo only (my soundbar is connected with the optical adapter) . After digging online I finally discovered that my old Samsung tv need to have a 5.1 content playing so the dolby option becomes available to select it. I have watch a couple of movies from Netflix and Disney + and the sound after those changes is amazing, unfortunately since my tv is old I won't be able to test any atmos content. Keep in mind that if your using streaming apps not all of them give you 5.1 audio. Overall I'm satisfied by the product and can't wait to replace my tv and purchase the subwoofer to get a complete experience.
Amazing review mate. I have just bought a c9 with eARC and got the old 5.1 set up with playbar. Didn’t realise I was in the market for replacing my sound bar but seemingly I am. Thanks for clearing up the ability to use the old sub and one play ones with this new sound bar. Kudos to you!

Great review I just got a new Samsung 82 inch qled and don't know if I should get the Samsung q90r soundbar or this is it better to keep it all Samsung?
How would you rate it against Sennheiser Ambeo Soundbar? Though obviously it is 3 times more expensive but does not require adding additional speakers/woofers/base.
I bought my sonos arc/sub/surrounds home cinema setup from this company after seeing all their great reviews and visiting their showroom for a demo. After sales great as well. After having investigated at length sonos v AV separates, I am very pleased with the set up, its simplicity and the way I can play music throughout the house....and even listen to film audio in the kitchen whilst I'm tidying up or replenishing drinks, without having to hit pause. Atmos works reasonably well, but the surrounds (ones) make the real difference. My only negative is that I would prefer greater front left/right separation...you can hear sound moving across the sound stage, but i would like this to be bigger as it would be with AV separates. Now if sonos enabled the ability to add a couple of Ones as left/right channels, i would be in home cinema heaven.
Great review, but there's something I don't understand. I watch TV using an STB (Set Top Box, connected to "HDMI 1" in my TV) and Google Chromecast ("HDMI 2" in my TV). If I connect the Sonos Arc to my TV's "HDMI 3 Arc" port, will the Sonos play while watching STB or Chromecast? Thanks.
Sorry but I’m a little confused and hopefully you can help. I have a Sony htst5000 with Atmos but it’s being repaired and I might be getting store credit and would like to go with the arc. My tv is a Sony x930e witch has HDMI-Arc but not Earc. Are you saying without earc I won’t being able to get dolby Atmos with the Sonos? I was able to get Atmos to work with this tv using the Sony sound bar.
Great question, on our test TV that only had HDMI ARC we only received Dolby Digital, not Atmos. Some TV's that only have HDMI ARC will output Atmos to the Arc and it's worth checking your TV's specs. That being said Dolby Digital sounded great on the Arc, and the upward-firing drivers did a great job in providing a 3D effect. We also tested a TV with eARC which did pass Atmos to the ARC. This was a step up from Dolby Digital and added more detail and immersion.
@@smarthomesounds I have tested the Apple TV 4K (connected to my TV) with a B&O Beosound Stage with Atmos. My TV is able to transport Atmos via DD+ over HDMI ARC, but it didn't work nevertheless (it worked when I connected the Apple TV4 directly to the Stage). So the problem is, that Apple 4K transports Atmos (DD+) via MAT. But obviously most of the TVs with ARC an multichannel bypass can transport DD+/Atmos but not MAT/Atmos. So the Apple TV4 will not work. Perhaps the Amazon 4K devices will work, because they don't use MAT, only DD+/Atmos. I couldn't test this.
@@smarthomesounds Which Sony TV model did you use that was able to pass thru Atmos from the Apple TV. I really want to upgrade but its very hard finding this info.

It sounds great. But - only one HDMI input. I Word like to use an Apple-Tv to get Dollys Atmos sound. (I have an Samsung 2019 TV 65 inch Q90R UHD Smart QLed TV that does not support Dolby Almos and does not have an earc HDMI connection). Question - can I use an active HDMI-splitter to have two devotes connected at the same time. And if so - what are the specifikation; to look out for? Best regards Bo Lundholm Sweden
A really, really excellent review. Just bought a sonos beam but now feel I should upgrade to the arc given that I have a 65 inch Samsung Q80t. Also I have the beam in a room with 20 ft ceilings. Please give me your opinion on whether or not I would hear a noticeable difference if I upgrade. I also should mention that I listen regularly to concert blue rays from various rock bands. Thank you
I will be using a Projector “Optoma Cinemax P2” which to my understanding supports HDMI arc (that’s what the back port says in the back of the projector. Can you still use the sonos Soundbar arc, subwoofers, speakers and get the full experience OR no since it doesn’t have the eArc? Not sure if arc and eArc has too much of a difference. I believe my projector does not have EArc
I watch a lot of reviews and this reviewer is on point. Gets through a lot of information fast, but not too fast. Is pleasant, but not overbearingly personable. Knowledgeable, but not annoyingly so. Keep making videos bro. Ps. Imma get the arc now
its definitely worth the money ..if u want the best sound from the arc you definitely need to get the sub, surrounds ..I have the full system and its amazing! but pricey..
Currently have Playbar (and Sub and Play 1’s) attached to 2017 LG OLED which has HDMI limited to basic Dolby Digital. Will upgrading to the Arc give me any acoustic advantage until I upgrade TV?
Should I get the sonos arc? My current setup is TCL 75 Q825 - it has Dolby Atmos pass through but no eArc, paired with two Sonos Ones, a 2nd gen sub and a Beam.
Hey guys, I have a Samsung q90T and i really want to purchase a Sonos arc. But unfortunately I’ve been reading a a lot of reviews where people have been having trouble connecting the Sonos with their Samsung television. Have you heard anything about this?
Great review, good level of detail and well presented . 2 Issues for me . lack of native source of Atmos content and after listening I feel that the Bass is lacking but probably a deliberate move by Sonos to sell more subs.
Can you beam to another Sonos device like a Sonos One, not as surround but as a duplicate? We have a very large kitchen / living room and would like to be able to hear the TV in the kitchen without blasting in the living room.
I don't have a Dolby Atmos TV yet. I only have a 55" 2018 Samsumg Q7f with Dolby Digital and plus. Will I have problems with this soundbar? I'm planning to buy one now and get a newer TV later in the year.
Simple question, What if you have your Sonos Soundbar is sitting on a shelf above the TV ?. In my current setup with Sonos Soundbar, Sonos Sub and two Sonos One SL for surround. I have this installed above the TV and used the Apple app for tuning. Considering upgradeing the Soundbar to the new ARC but woundering if that might be a problem with upward facing speakers when closer to the cealing on a shelf directly above the TV. Below the TV I have the usual clutter on my HiFi cupboard so not really possible.
Hi Graham, for the most optimal experience, I would recommend trying to get the Arc below the TV if you can, as the up firing speakers may be too close to the ceiling. If there's space between your TV and HiFi cupboard, you could wall mount the Arc below the TV. If you really can't find space, TruePlay will help iron out any acoustic imbalances from being mounted above.
@David Mander i own a 7.2 surround sound system that i spent years procuring, but i currently live in a condo where all that sound and base isn't necessary. My Sonos is perfect for my current arrangement. I have no complaints.
Planning to buy Sonos arc during the Christmas. My sunsamg TV was from 2015, it has HDMI Arc and it support Dolby digital plus. Is this mean if I end up purchased Sonos Arc, it won’t be sound as good as on TV which supports EArc and Dolby Atmos ?
I have an LG SL9YG that I paired with my LG CX, but thinking it’s lacking. Any comment on making the upgrade to the Sonos from the LG? Worth doing it? Thanks!
Very nice review. I have a laptop connected to a TV via HDMI 1. My TV has extra HDMI 2 ARC, how can I use SONOS ARC as a speaker in playing movies from my laptop ? or do you have any soundbar that can be use for this setup ?
Do you know if the Sonos Arc is compatible with the Nebula Cosmos Max 4K projector? Trying to see what sound bar would be good to pair with this smart projector via Bluetooth connection
In a direct comparison Arc vs Beam + two One’s, which setup will give you a more immersive experience? The price point is pretty much the same on both setups, the Arc comes with Atmos, but Beam + two One’s is a “true” small surround system. I’d appreciate your opinion!
Great overview! Thanks so much. Quick question-if money was not an issue and I had a room about 4 meters by 5 meters would you recommend arc or beam? If money wasn’t an issue is the arc that much better for a smaller room? I realize the arc has atmos capability but let’s say that doesn’t matter for me. Thanks!
If I have something like a fire tv or ruku that support atmos, i dont need a tv with EARC? I would feed the fire tv into the Sonos and take the HDMI out to the tv?
I use a couple of Chromecast Audio devices around the house and group them together. Do you know if the Arc can be grouped with other Chromecast audio devices via the Google Home app?
Great content..what happens if you use a receiver? Do you connect the arc to the reciever? I am new to wireless connections for sound so I am not sure how to get this set up. All my devices including the TV, Roku, PS4, Blue Ray are connected to my audio reciever. I am considering buying the LG C10 panel which I think has eArc to upgrade my watching experience. But still researching what to do for my audio setup.
Hi, Im looking to purchase either a sonos arc or beam. I have the following TV: www.lg.com/uk/tvs/lg-49SM8500PLA It mentions its got dolby atmos. but i cant see any mention for E-ARC port. So how can it support dolby atmos? Also just as a general question does netlfix, or amazon have much dolby atmos content? Im wondering if i will be able to get the most out of the technology? Thanks in advance!
I’m building a cinema wall, but should i place my Sonos Arc inside the wall so its flat with the wall just like the tv, or for better sound, should i place it sticking out the wall (for the box’s pointing up).
Can you please do a comparison video between Bose 700 soundbar and bass module and the Sonos Arc and bass. Looking to buy one of these but not sure which one is better
I do think there is one more thing to consider between the ARC and Beam which is the release dates. There is a couple years between those so maybe at this point the ARC is a little more future proof too.
Can I turn the up firing speakers off as my sound bar is mounted under a marble pillar and would block the speakers and might sound odd. I just want a really good 5:1 experience.
So, there are better sounding soundbars out there, similar priced with more features. Would the sonos arc be the best choice for those of us living in apartments or townhouses? Whereas the bass and loudness isn't as important as sound clarity and surrounds are more the decision makers?
Got a question - could you still have the original Soundbar on the same network If I were to upgrade to Arc? For example, I move my current Playbar to a different TV and put the Arc on whatever TV I have currently as my 5.1 surround?
How is the arc with terrestrial tv, we get some channels in Dolby the rest stereo, I just returned the lg 7.2.4 Atmos soundbar as the regular tv channels sounded terrible, the volume was all over the place. How is the Sonos arc with regular tv?
Hmmm interested but ima. Major gamer and how does they sounds okay out with video games? Do you by chance know or anyone does? Wow silly with newer systems I prefer to emerge my self and will always want more bass so I’ll get the sub. But movies and games do play differently
Hello Tim, thanks for watching. Yes, adding rear speakers to the Arc will certainly give you a more immersive experience as the surround channels are then just coming out of the Ones at the back. You will hear sounds from behind you much more clearly and put you at the centre of the action. The Sub and rear speakers can be added at any time to the Arc. I hope this helps!

Se7enity 2020 Sure you can buy one.
Charlie Wilson; Thank you Charlie.
Which soundbar do you recommend for a large open family (and kitchen)? Thanks!
Thanks for the in depth review, any lip sync issues? is there an option to adjust?
Planning to buy Sonos arc during the Christmas. My sunsamg TV was from 2015, it has HDMI Arc and it support Dolby digital plus. Is this mean if I end up purchased Sonos Arc, it won’t be sound as good as on TV which supports EArc and Dolby Atmos ?
Is it possible to use a pair of Ikea symfonisk bookshelf speakers, insted of the Sonos Ones, as the rear channels? - Thanks!
Yes
I have an LG SL9YG that I paired with my LG CX, but thinking it’s lacking. Any comment on making the upgrade to the Sonos from the LG? Worth doing it? Thanks!
I have a large lounge (40m2) with a vaulted ceiling. Do you think that ATMOS will work and is it powerful enough?
Very nice review. I have a laptop connected to a TV via HDMI 1. My TV has extra HDMI 2 ARC,
how can I use SONOS ARC as a speaker in playing movies from my laptop ?
or do you have any soundbar that can be use for this setup ?
Is this likely to see a refresh soon, or is this the time to buy? Thanks!
Great Review. Thorough yet concise with named portions as you scroll through. Thanks
Amazing review! Does the Arc cut into the LG C9/CX noticeably given they have low-profile stands?
I would imagine yes.
I'm thinking about paring it with my c9. I'm tempted to get the sonos arc.
I have a Denon 716 which is great, should I get an arc instead?
Hi,
Im looking to purchase either a sonos arc or beam.
I have the following TV: www.lg.com/uk/tvs/lg-49SM8500PLA
It mentions its got dolby atmos. but i cant see any mention for E-ARC port. So how can it support dolby atmos?
Also just as a general question does netlfix, or amazon have much dolby atmos content?
Im wondering if i will be able to get the most out of the technology?
Thanks in advance!
Just a quick question. Can I play Spotify from my Android phone to the Sonos Arc?
I’m building a cinema wall, but should i place my Sonos Arc inside the wall so its flat with the wall just like the tv, or for better sound, should i place it sticking out the wall (for the box’s pointing up).
Can you please do a comparison video between Bose 700 soundbar and bass module and the Sonos Arc and bass. Looking to buy one of these but not sure which one is better
I do think there is one more thing to consider between the ARC and Beam which is the release dates. There is a couple years between those so maybe at this point the ARC is a little more future proof too.
Excellent video it’s made my mind up of getting The Arc to upgrade from the play bar
What about Dolby Digital Plus. My Samsung TV from last year has Digital Plus. What would that do as opose to just Digital?
Thanks - really good review! Do you think the Beam2 will support Atmos, or do you think that is the ARCs USP?
Hi Jonathan, how does sonos arc work with samsung q90t or q95t (2020 models with eArc)? Gives this tv with arc dolby atmos sound?
Watching this you dont just learn you get educated! Thanks
No mention about the lack of DTS or even DTS X format?
Great review...I want to order this but can I use this is conjunction with the hue sync box
Hi, what happens if the Sonos is mounted right next to a wall, like the right side facing speaker is facing directly into a wall ( 1 cm distance)
Simply the most comprehensive no fuss review. Kudos!
my tv supports only ARC HDMI. Do you think Arc will still deliver Dolby Atmos ?
Can I turn the up firing speakers off as my sound bar is mounted under a marble pillar and would block the speakers and might sound odd. I just want a really good 5:1 experience.
Hi! Cuestión, the HDMI that comes with the Sonos arc is good enough for a good quality? Or I have to buy the 2.1 for better sound quality? Thank you 😊
So, there are better sounding soundbars out there, similar priced with more features. Would the sonos arc be the best choice for those of us living in apartments or townhouses? Whereas the bass and loudness isn't as important as sound clarity and surrounds are more the decision makers?
Can I put it above my TV ? Legs on my tv are not 114 cm apart and there is no space on tv shelf
@Smart Home Sounds -- is it worth adding x2 Sonos One's as rear speakers even if you don't have the Sub? Will this add more depth and immersiveness?
Hello Tim, thanks for watching. Yes, adding rear speakers to the Arc will certainly give you a more immersive experience as the surround channels are then just coming out of the Ones at the back. You will hear sounds from behind you much more clearly and put you at the centre of the action. The Sub and rear speakers can be added at any time to the Arc. I hope this helps!
