I'm from Wilmington and graduated from Laney. At the time it just felt normal, but as I look back, it's wild to think I played ball in the same gym, lifted weights in the same room, roamed the same halls, and even had some of the same coaches that Mike did.
UNC has arguably the 2 best players to ever play their respected sport Jordan and Lawrence Taylor. Jordan is the GOAT and LT at worst is top 3 all time football.
Theres no rivalry in college sports bigger than Duke vs Carolina basketball. My grandfather graduated from Carolina with a Masters and PhD. I was born bleeding Carolina blue.
@jasonprice6234 the iron bowl isn't even the biggest rivalry in college football. Michigan and Ohio State is considered by most as being the biggest rivalry in football.
Love that Jordan, like most UNC basketball fans, continues to "dislike dukies" is just funny hearing it from his lips, but all in all Duke has been the thorn in the side of UNC for quite some time & will continue to do so. However, I admit Coach K was a class act in advancing awareness & assisting in the now deceased Coach Smith's, advancement of Alzheimer's research as well as giving Coach Smith his last "award".. Can't believe I said that about Coach K...chhh, chhh,
Denise Hardeman Dukies have always hated the Tarheels far worse than the other way around! Hey when you've dominated the ACC for almost 100 yrs it happens!!!
@jordan135 We know these things about him now. But, when he was playing if you were to ask the casual fan they would say Michael Jordan is a class act. Humble guy. The other greatest athlete of all time is who? Who else? Muhammad Ali. Probably the most famous sports personality ever. If you want to talk about confident, look no further. I was the biggest Michael Jordan fan, growing up, but when I started boxing in college, and started watching and reading everything about Ali, oh man.
Oh c'mon, barely. He only said "...what can I say about Coach Smith", or something along those lines. I love Carolina, and I love Jordan, but that whole deal left a lot to be desired. He spent more time needling Pat Riley about a trip to Hawaii and Jeff Van Gundy about his "con man" comments than he did praising Coach Smith. I know Jordan's had nothing but high praise for Coach Smith over the years, but this is a HOF speech! Elaborate! Tell a little known story...something.
@keeponseeking a) why would he say he copied magic but not say he copied michael jordan? i don't get what you're saying. b) michael jordan & kobe bryant were very different players. michael jordan was much quicker, more of a 1/2. kobe is more 2/3. c) you cannot simply "copy" a player's moves like he's a writer or a painter. if you could, everyone would be as great as kobe bryant.
Naa bruh. You learned that "rock-da- baby" from my homeboy Curtis Hunter your teammate from '82-'84. Curtis was from Durham and had that big city open court game. When I see Michael in the open I'm looking at Curtis Hunter.
Three years would've been four but Coach Smith called MJ into his office and basically told Michael that he had to leave. I heard MJ cried like a baby he wanted to come back for his senior year that's how much he loved Coach Smith and UNC my how times have changed!
I love how he's a grown man, but still refers to them as "Coach Smith" and "Coach Williams" versus calling them Dean or Roy. That shows respects.
ilikepepsi3883 Certainly does! At almost 47 I still can't call my teachers by they're first names.. Just love and respect them to much!!
Michaels dad built the fireplace in Roy Williams' house. It's apparently very fine.
Your Coach is always your Coach
i'm 41, played soccer and basketball since First grade. I still call em coach. it;s just what you call em lol
My two heroes
1. Dean Smith
2. Michael Jordan
UNC forever
Facts. You still on TH-cam 14 years later?

I'm a Duke fan but I miss MJ and Dean. Both are N.C. heros

The Iron Bowl would like a word.......
@jasonprice6234 the iron bowl isn't even the biggest rivalry in college football. Michigan and Ohio State is considered by most as being the biggest rivalry in football.
I can hear Coach Smith now Michael can u knock it off with the fancy dunks we wanna beat the other team not humiliate them!!!
WOODEN , DEAN SMITH. The difference between them and Duke coach K is that they developed players for the next level.
A game vs Virginia in 83, I told my dad Jordan we would go down as the GOAT!
🧢
He will go down as the top 3 for sure
GOAT GOAT GOAT 🐐 THE BEST
23 FOREVER!!!!!!!!! GO HEELS
Dean Smith was the epitome of class...meanwhile coach kae didn't even have the balls to suspend grayson for a game
No he suspended him for one game. ONE GAME!
Hark the Sound Baby!
UNC baby! See, these are some of the things Jordan should have touched on in his HOF speech.

when Mike K retires we all know where Duke will go!! lol
Denise Hardeman and that time is coming soon!! lol
MJ is one Lucky KID, learning from Dean Smith, Roy Williams, Bobby Knight.
No wonder he is in the GOAT conversation.
John Cruz
There's no conversation or debate.

Uhhh, yoiu were there for two years, homie.
Yobachi2007 Jordan attended UNC through his junior year before turning pro and came back to finish his degree.
