Very interesting channel. Only been listening to jazz for about two years. This gives me a greater appreciation and also some good recommendations for new albums to check out. I definitely subscribed.
Your lessons are great but is there a PDF file or something I can then print up these different licks from the different drummers you feature? Thank you again.
Hey Philip, glad you're digging these! In the description, there's a link to all the PDFs. It's how I support these videos (instead of putting up ads). Let me know if you have trouble finding it!
Hopefully not a super dumb question but how do I remember so many licks? Do (non Brian Blade) drummers generally reuse a relatively small number of licks over and over with variations or do they memorize and recall a ton of licks? Thanks for these lessons!
This is a great question, not a dumb one at all. You hit the nail on the head. Take a few at a time and wear them out. Think of it like quoting a movie: you wear out the same 3-5 lines from a funny movie with your friends, and after a while you move on to other lines from a different movie, but you've used those other ones so much that they will get recalled whenever the moment fits the line. Even years later. Same with this language. And you can hear it on the records. You'll hear these guys use the same licks multiple times on a recording, or even in the same solo. Because they're working on those specific ideas during that time.
Your lessons are SO GOOD. Thanks for posting this up.
Glad you're liking these, Mike.
Thanks again Justin. Great!

Nice work! I hope you're considering A.T. for a future (Another 52) lick :)

JazzDrummersResource That makes sense. I like the movie quote analogy. I’ll remember that. Thank you for the reply!
What kind of kit is that? Sounds amazing
It's a DW from 2000. It's a pretty versatile kit!
