I transcribed the whole song.
Standard tuning key of E
Big Joe Williams, who recorded this in the 30ies in open G tuning is credited as composer. Lightnin' made a personal version in the key of E.
Here's the first one he recorded in the late 40ies
• Lightnin' Hopkins - Ba...
quite different to the one he recorded in the 60ies, on which my version is based.
LYRICS
Baby, please don't go
Baby, please don't go
Baby, please don't go, down to New Orleans
You know I love you so
Before I be your dog
Before I be your dog
Before I be your dog
I get you way'd out here, and let you walk alone
Turn your lamp down low
Turn your lamp down low
Turn your lamp down low
I beg you all night long, baby, please don't go
You brought me way down here
You brought me way down here
You brought me way down here
'Bout to Rolling Forks, you treat me like a dog
Baby, please don't go
Baby, please don't go
Baby, please don't go, back the New Orleans
I beg you all…

The people that play the best always seem to be enjoying it the most
Cause some are robots, some feel the music
Big Daddy is playing his ass off, hitting his notes so sweet and clean, soulful singing, driving rhythm, you got it all.
Why never in all my life, a tune and a fab guitar, ace , blown away by your channel.
Il n’y a qu’un mot à dire. FANTASTIQUE TALENT dans toutes ses interprétations
Wow that has such an authentic old sound with so much feeling. Singing is impressive with some nice grittiness. Thanks for sharing!
I want to be like this ol guy when I grow up.
TheKrzacz better start practicing then ;-)
I've been practicing for 18 years. I figured I have about *checking watch* 200 years to go.
Absolutely love the style of your playing!!! I've never seen this song played better!
Most excellent , there's nothing better than watching a great guitarist playing in the groove !
Masterful rendition ........I've been working on this one from Mr Stovepipes' Lightnin lesson pack for months and only revisiting to check out the lyrics, what a great journey I've had so far and I'm stunned all over again as to how good this performance is.
Thank you again Carl.
Thanks for the kind words Angus.
I love how it's a bit more rhythmical than Lightning's version. It has a bit more swing to it... Tomorrow morning, first thing, I will sit and play this song in this rhythmical way (without the amazing solo's hahah). LOVE IT!
you play so beautifully, it's inspiring. and the fact that you teach all those techniques is really helpful. your channel is the best thing i've ever found on youtube.
I must honestly say this is the best cover of what I have seen so far! they copied the playing style of Lightnin'Hopkins really well! I really enjoy blues to relax!
Lightnin was the coolest! Loved him from the first time I heard him! Then when I saw video of him I thought he was twice as cool! The way he moves and swaggers with the guitar. You got it down, man! It's all part of the Lightnin feel. Thank you for your videos and sharing with all of us. It's a big help to so many of us up and coming blues players and a great tool in keeping the blues alive!
You’ve inspired me to keep on playing. I’m grateful for your beautiful spirit
Comme toujours, une superbe interprétation et avec des instruments qui font rêver.. Bravo, et merci pour ce bon moment.
