Can you imagine if a city worker came to your door and said they were sorry for the inconvenience, but they had to build a highway from your house straight to your office and it would be done in 30 seconds.
"Thirty seconds? Thirty Seconds?! I pay $400,000 for a new sod baseball field, $1,000,000 for a senior center in the Depot, and you think you get to take a whole Thirty Fucking Seconds of my time to build a road???" Pretty much verbatim a conversation I had with a neighbor when a water main broke, it was neither of ours, we didn't flood and they were already fixing it.
The reason you prefer roundabouts is because they are objectively superior for traffic flow in reality too XD that's why the Netherlands has so many of them XD
This is (yet another) one of those "what every country in the world does except for the USA" things... (but in this case: also Canada doesn't do roundabouts, for no good reason)
@@vampyrekyng_lex I live in Vancouver. There's a couple in the middle of some residential areas here, where there's no traffic (so they're entirely unnecessary). None near any major traffic routes.
@@brianlynchehaun7079 There's quite a few roundabouts in newer sections of cities in Canada. I'm in small town Nova Scotia and there's like three roundabouts in the commercial shopping area
@@LatterDayMutant I'm glad to hear it. They're largely non-existent in Vancouver. My understanding is that they largely don't exist in either Edmonton or Toronto (I've spent very little time in either).
its always interesting to see how people decide to manage the traffic, I always tried my best to keep colors separate and not let them share roads too often, i also used roundabouts wherever I could and minimized the use of intersections and traffic lights to a minimum, you also dont HAVE to connect every house to a road just enough to feed the businesses that are connected. using angles for the roads covers more distance so avoid 90 degree angles. I could go on and on 😅
I personally like 90 degree angles with houses because it looks nice. I also use extra roads to block off spaces so businesses don’t get placed in awful areas
@@Freetreedumb yes! blocking off areas with roads is a great tool! I understand the houses look better, i mean its your game so if that works for you thats awesome, but it takes up a road tile so when things get tight for me all my houses get shifted anyway so i just do it from the start to avoid the stopping and rearranging all the time😅
Traffic lights let cars go full speed on intersections and can be useful when a cross intersection has high traffic on one side and low on the other. Also, traffic lights are smart, so it will stay green for one side if there's no demand on the other(s).
Yes, that is the claim made by folk in favour of traffic lights. Except that "going full speed" almost never happens, and people can maintain a fairly decent speed (similar to traffic lights) with roundabouts. All empirical data shows that roundabouts are better for infrastructure than lights except in some rare cases.
The issue is that traffic lights only seem to work properly on a four-way intersection at 90 degrees. What's more, the bonus they provide is very minimal (hence why you get two). They can patch up minor problems to ease pressure from a borderline situation, but they're not going to solve major congestion. tl;dr Traffic lights (only) work with an intersection that has a lot of cars taking one route, and few cars taking another route.

(Also please say "bless you" to BB from me haha. The cutest sneezes! 😻)
Hey Gab, if you plan on playing more of this game, a few tips on making it easier. 1. You can edit your roads while the game is paused. If it becomes chaotic, just pause and essentially nuke the roads to make them more efficient. 2. You can bend the highways so they dont interact with the mountains. They can only bend in arc shape, but I do my best to push those roads to their limits. 3. Lastly, you kind of did it, angling roads diagonally and same with houses, save you more roads so when you are offered those highways and they always give you fewer roads you'll always have some to spare

I personally would practice a lot in Endless mode, just so I can learn the best strats before doing normal mode. When switching to Endless mode at the end of the normal run, I would remove every component and essentially start over to better plan out the ideal setup. Or when writers for fandoms like Yugioh and Pokemon can come up with duels/battles when irl the draw of cards or how the opponent will act is based mostly on luck. I've always been fascinated by how people can do that, and seemingly so easily, bc it sounds so complicated Creators are amazing!
I love this game I play loads on the switch! I have some tips for future games (I'm hoping you make this a series hehe): 1. Use spare roads to block out space, especially at the beginning, to try and prevent warehouses from spawning too close to each other or in awkward positions. You can then delete the roads later when you need the roads back! 2. I try as much as possible to separate out each colour into its own traffic system, only merging them in late game when I have no other choice. It sometimes means the routes are a bit longer but prevents traffic down the line! 3. You can build while paused to give yourself more time to fix things when its all getting overwhelming 4. And finally, when severely in doubt, remember you can delete your entire map and reroute the whole city (while everythings paused) and try something new haha
