@@JustScrollinByI 100% agree! I brought a cheap tub of sidewalk chalk to the park with my grandkiddos one day. There were all kinds of younger adults there too My young grandson looked at one young man who happened to be watching us and said. You want to color too? He did. And his friends did and soon all the 20 somethings were hanging out and coloring on the big patio floor. I had only paid $2 per tub of those chalks and had 2 more tubs at home. We left the tub at the patio/pavilion and left a written note please draw and enjoy It was there and replaced by others all summer. I haven't been there yet this year but I'd like to think some one has been replacing the chalk. I know last summer we saw old folks coloring too. 😅 As long as it hurts no one. Enjoy and play.
Seeing someone you loved enjoying the thing you got them/made for them makes a special type of joy. Like seeing family members opening presents you got them!
Oh man, you just reminded me of the time a friend got spray chalk. We had so much fun! She lived in a brick house, and her mom let us make designs on the sides of the house too.
Let me tell you something as a mother too, who raised my kids doing things not watching things. My kids would take a piece of cardboard and go slide down the hill as opposed to watching TV or playing on a video game. My kids would climb trees and they would go on Adventures in the yard I would always be able to see them out of any window in the house as we lived in a very house that the yard was able to be seen since it was below the house. We had so many fun adventures with doing things growing up my children will never forget doing instead of watching👍
I had a childhood like this too and I loved it! It breaks my heart that I’m raising my daughter in a tiny apartment with no yard. Dangerous neighborhood too, so no walks without Dad but he works 10+ hrs 7 days a week trying to buy us a house. She doesn’t watch much tv, but no trees, no hills, no mud pies or catching bugs. I think a lot of us wish we could do better. 😞
@@HaleyPBearHey! Remember! Bad parents don't ever think they're a bad parent. You're doing amazing. There's a lot of indoor activities that're great for little kids! Such as: Floor is lava with pillows, cushions, blankets, etc. Coloring pages! You can even ask them to draw something for you! If they don't go to school you could print out (if you don't have a printer, your local library probably does) some simple mind work pages (difficulty depends on age) such as mazes, matching games, etc. PLAYDOUGH! Playdough is great! You can use a baking sheet or plate if you don't want playdough bits on the table. Kinetic sand is great too! Children can even be entertained with some markers and a cardboard box! Or even a trip to the store! Maybe even let her pick out a new veggie or fruit for her to try You're doing amazing with your limitations. If you can't get outside with your kid? That's okay. If you can? Great!
@@BeowulfandMelody Thank you so much, those are great ideas! And that made me feel a lot better. It’s easy to get caught up feeling not good enough but I’m trying my best and it feels good to hear that is enough. 🥹
@@HaleyPBear of course! You're not a bad parent for being unable to bring your daughter outside at times. Getting outside is great but if it's unsafe or you are unable to for other reasons, that's okay! Keeping your child safe and healthy is top priority. Also, if your daughter is still rather young, it's rather easy to make them happy (in my experience) even if you can't take them out for a treat, even a $1 toy or markers can make them happy haha. It's okay to be unable to play with your kid. You could even make a nice list (maybe with visuals if she can't quite read yet) and she could help, of some things she can do when you're too busy to play. Oh also, if she can read or is starting to read, books are great! Picture books, chapter book, anything really. Even an audiobook! (which reminds me, music is awesome too) On Amazon there's these books called Paint by Sticker which could be great for dexterity skills as well. If your local Walmart, Michaels, dollar tree, or something has the supplies, finger painting can be very fun as well. So many things! Just remember, even if you can't get her outside, can't play with her, etc. you are not a bad parent! You're trying your best with the given circumstances and your husband is working hard to find you all better circumstances. It's okay to have your kid watch TV sometimes. As long as rules are implemented so they aren't a screen absorbed teenager at the age of 9 haha 😅. I highly recommend Bluey if you're subscribed to Disney+ it's not obnoxious, teaches great lessons, and is tolerable for all ages. Good luck! You've got this!
Painting with water on the floor and drawing with chalk on the floor are two things I do with my kids a lot- never thought of combining the two- genius
In the summers as a kid, my nana would give me a different type of craft or art activity everyday I was with her. I always remember really loving them and being so excited to do them. Keep your kids engaged and active not entertained and distracted!
Remembered my old school days when after school at some of weekends I used to pick up some chalks left over by teachers near blackboard. My school used only white chalk . So I used poster colour with some water and draw some freestyle drawings on papers before throwing them because the output were not as bright as I was in habit of with my poster colours. I also used to colour with the residues left after sharping pencil colours.
Tempera paint powder works just as well and comes in powder form already- I hate the feel and sound of chalk too, so I just mix tempera with water for sidewalk painting. It hoses off just as well as chalk. You can also use it to paint snow in the winter if you mix it into a spray bottle or dust the powder onto snow.
Omg I used to LOVE stencils!! Like so obsessed and would BEG my mum to get me more hahaha. I completely forgot about it till your videos thanks Tori! I’m gonna call my mum now hahaha
I'm SO excited to finally get rid of the box of chalk that's been on my porch since last summer. 😂 - We’re definitely doing this. My daughter loves chalk and loves to paint. PURE WIN! Thanks for sharing! 🤍
Play I tried this video out and actually work to get my kids entertained for 3 hours I love you thank you for everything this to me three kids and they love this thank you
I actually kind of did this as a kid, I always liked to wet my chalk or the concrete before drawing, so the texture was like oil pastel or paint instead of dry and chalky. I loved how smooth it was and how nicely it blended. If it rained and the cement was wet I would go outside and draw all over it, so smooth ❤
I'm definitely going to try this this summer with the grandkids. Looks like much fun for them, and clean-up would be as easy as turning the garden hose on after they go home. Will make great memories and pictures. Thank you for sharing ❤️
Wet chalk painted on when it dries is far more vibrant than just drawing and smudging when it dries. I let my kids dip their chalk in water to draw on the cement. I love doing their hand and feet prints with it by making a bundle and scrubbing multiple colors side by side so we get rainbow hand prints and feet prints. It's so fun to do.
my little sister and i used to draw on our trampoline with chalk…comes out easily with water or just over time. it’s super fun to transform your trampoline into a new environment :)

As an adult with grown children, not living in my house. I'm going to do this with the neighborhood kids😂😂😂😂
as an adult i'm going to do this today 🎉

This is brilliant! I used to do with with cornstarch, water, and food dye for my sisters. It makes a little thicker of a paint.

Does it rinse off well? I've never tried making my own with food dye. I'm a renter with a nosey landlord.😂
@@JustScrollinBy it does! Never had a problem with getting it off.
Yeah, it dries then you can wash it off after, but it depends on the chalk. @@JustScrollinBy

Oh wow. Good idea!

You can make the end pieces of crayons into new crayons, too. Fun multi-colored ones.
We do this during a festival 'diwali' in india its called rangoli we use a powdery substance and make different design near the entrance of our house
That sounds really cool ❤
You forgot holi.
I came to comments to see if anyone had suggested using these powders instead of chalk.
Don't we use flower petals on dipawali
We use flowers and rangoli
I fill up plastic cups let and let chalk sticks sit for a couple minutes. My kids can draw w/chalk “paint” w/o destroying brushes on the concrete 😊
Sidewalk chalk is never boring, but this does take it up a notch. Cool
