This guy has got taste with the Van Morrison track playing in the background. He is clear and very precise in his explanation of something that puzzles many. A cycle maintenance stand is as essential as a set of Allen keys/Wrenches.
You missed a quite important bit. before you connect the cable, put the cable tensioner in the lowest position. If there isn't enough tension on the cable, you can adjust the barrel to get the chain tension just right. This is trial and error work. You got it right the first time, but that's just merre luck and perhaps a bit of skill. It is much much easier to just use the cable barrel to get the right amount of tension.
