  • POWERFUL share by Bea P.! Great share! Al-Anon / Alateen, known as Al-Anon Family Groups, is an international "fellowship of relatives and friends of alcoholics who share their experience, strength, and hope in order to solve their common problems."They "help families of alcoholics by practicing the Twelve Steps, by welcoming and giving comfort to families of alcoholics, and by giving understanding and encouragement to the alcoholic."
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"After a while I began to wonder why I was not as happy as I ought to be, since the one thing I had been yearning for all my married life [Bill's sobriety] had come to pass. Then one Sunday, Bill asked me if I was ready to go to the meeting with him. To my own astonishment as well as his, I burst forth with "Damn your old meetings!" and threw a shoe as hard as I could.
This surprising display of temper over nothing pulled me up short and made me start to analyze my own attitudes. ... My life's purpose of sobering up Bill, which had made me feel desperately needed, had vanished. ... I decided to strive for my own spiritual growth. I used the same principles as he did to learn how to change my attitudes. ... We began to learn that ... the partner of the alcoholic also needed to live by a spiritual program." - "Lois's Story" in How Al-Anon Works

Thank you for sharing your story. I wondered what's at the end of this journey. Hearing your story, I can see within me, I'm already changing! Learning to accept today, my peoples as they are, without my need to control because I know I'm right.

Thanks for sharing! It's been a long struggle from daughter of an alcoholic to an alcoholic mother myself. Wish I'd had Al-Anon when I was younger, but love listening so that I can help support my own children. :)

Thank You so much for your story Bea. I really needed to hear it. Having a 20 year old addict son, I've been at my wits end. You've given me some hope.

Thank you Bea for your story. I have 2 sons with addiction problems. It’s so hard to watch you own children go through this struggle. You are great to listen to.

Thank you for sharing your story; I have just joined Al- Anon and trying to find my way. I too have a family of alcoholics- my siblings and now my son in is in full blown madness from drinking and I am struggling with trying to cope.
