Just another idea which worked out fine.

Hi Peter, the bearings keep the wheel centered, the alu bar is there just to keep it off the ground, the bar is actually bent a little and it makes no difference, the wiggling motivates the bearings and eliminates the small amount of friction the bearings normally have and the seals are clear of the alu rod.
With the bearings the wheel is perfectly centered, even better than with those special centering shafts ( which are a little bent as well ) but they bend the same amount in every direction so that works as well, i just tried it and it happens to work, no need to buy more parts to do the same job.
Actually made the video for the cb1100forum.com group, you may want to take a look there.....

Imagine an increase in the diameter of the axle hole with the same rod through it - at some point the wheel wouldn't turn under its own weight whatever position it was in - your rod needs to be about 20mm in diameter the same as the axle - totally rubbish idea - buy a simple wheel balance device for around £25 with cones that centre everything. Only watched as I have a CB1100. Only 4 comments but 2 stating it needs to be centred. May as well balance whilst the wheel still fitted
