    I am in the USA with a reselling business. Customers always pay for postage. I also never pay for packaging materials. I take free boxes from the supermarket and cut them to size for my items.

    Hi Tory, Didi you know that the small padded mailers are the same external size as the medium vinyl satchels from Aus Post. So in theory with a little manipulation (splitting seam a bit and reenforcing on outside) you can send larger items for the same price as a small parcel. Next time you're in the Aus Post shop do a size comparison on the small padded mailer and medium vinyl satchel and see what I mean. Might be another Aus Post packaging hack.

    I send irregular shapes regularly (pun!), they just take the measurement off the widest points. It's on the aus post website, with a diagram, to do this. Sounds like your local PO staff are just doing you a favour or don't know the rules. Anyway, enjoy it while it lasts. Aus Post's insane volume to weight equivalence is the reason why I don't sell many bulky items anymore even if they're light as a feather, they re-tiered their volume bracketing a few months ago, [drastically - no one made a video about it that I'm aware of], so now everything that gets hit with the measuring tape costs a fortune more than it used to.

    It will go trough a laser scanner and you will be pinged by dimensions ( drawing a cross in the middle of the box) and your customer can end up with the extra charge at their end . but if it works 4 u, so be it .

    Love how excited you are about this. 😂
    Another odd thing.. You can fit a small 5kg item into a small Auspost satchel, and it's priced as a small parcel.
    But on the otherhand it's cheaper to send a large light weight item up to 500g into a generic XL satchel, as it will be priced as a small parcel! 😂

    Just another Tip for the new resellers mate, is with your band discounts while paying at the Post Office Counter, I like how you get the discount, but the postage label still has the full postage price on it, so the Customer still thinks thats what you have paid.

      Ideally you want to reduce the perceived postage costs as much as you can rather than increase the perceived postage costs in any way. Customers base their decision on the total, but they also view postage as an additional cost they would rather not pay too much for.

    Here is what I learnt watching Back from Burnout - if item that weighted more than 500g doesn't fit 500g satchel, try the padded mailer small - it will still count as small but padded mailer small is the size of 1kg satchel. Learnt today that many of my items could have benefit this trick. Note she seems to actually do this to most small books, if it fits 500g satchel - use 500g satchel instead as those padded mailers are just not cheap.

    From Auspost:
    2. Next, the parcel’s cubic volume is calculated by
    measuring the length (L) x width (W) x height (H)
    in metres. When measuring odd shaped articles such
    as satchels, measure the maximum points.

    This is just the same type of thing as sending letter rate when the item is a fraction too thick to post as a letter, and staff let it through until they don't. You can rely on it until you get new staff at where you post. or you go somewhere else where they'll just say "yeah nah mate". I've been sending irregular for many years and if I'm paying at the counter without a prepaid label they always measure the widest dimensions WxLxH since it is the correct way of doing it (Aus Post policy). In my case it is using smaller box taped to bigger box, complexity of packing multiple items that fit in the 2 boxes versus what other larger packaging I have on hand, so you get the angle created by tape rather than cutting a larger box, but same irregular result in the end.

    • @enemysub9057
      @enemysub9057 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You kind of have to bear in mind that they are using letter sorting machines which can jam up when people put the wrong things in them. It's why CD mailers are a thing.

    id love to know if your local post offices are LPO's ( licensed post offices) ie privately owned or corporate post offices, ? i find the privately oven ones are more flexible as they get the same amount of money even if they halve the postage price, i think the staff member was doing you a good turn, you have to understand that oversize parcels like your board game end up having to be processed by hand as they are too big to go through the automated sorting at aus post, and further to your questions on the vid, as a seller i only use austpost as they are reliable, ive had parcels sent to me via sendle and they seem to always go into a black hole for 3 days for finally getting delivered 10 day later, yes very cheap, but not good service .lots of the courier company's off good rates and picks up if you have the volume , love your videos,
