    What other Disney/Pixar movies should I check out? The newer they are, better chance I haven't seen them but there are a good bit of older ones I want to see
    *JOHN WICK* and *TWILIGHT: ECLIPSE* are both available for early-access over on Patreon!

      Turning Red the newest and really good, it hits you were that early 2000's nostalgia and reminded me how cringe I was as a preteen 😂
      If you like super hero movies there's Big Hero 6 which is absolutely amazing and deals with grief and fun fact it's counted as a Marvel Movie! It even has Stan Lee cameos!

    Bruno didn’t tell everyone the worst things that would happen , he just told them the truth because they asked and they thought he was doing something to cause the visions to be bad. I mean in the song the sister with the flowers literally says that he told her good things would happen in her life , so it’s not like he was doing any of that on purpose.

      Yep, and to add to that, aside from the hair falling out, they were all preventable things. The guy could have begun eating better and exercising, the lady could have...fed her fish better maybe? I mean you can't really prevent death so I guess she could have just come to terms with it early.

    It seems like Pedro was trying to give Abuela and the others time to get away so he sacrificed himself as a distraction. However, Abuela didn't leave with the others and saw then him being murdered. Also, the others saw out Abuela for guidance right after his death so on top of having 3 babies to care for, she also had to take care of the village. She had no time to grieve or deal with the trauma that came from his death. One fact I think is quite cruel and I also think adds to her being unable to grieve is that Abuela's room looks the same as the one she and Pedro left behind.

    • @kristinw2600
      @kristinw2600 2 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      The creators have confirmed that when Alma says "my three babies had just been born", she means that literally. The triplets were hours old. After going through the trauma of childbirth, with very little recovery or time to adapt, Alma finds herself forced to flee her home, and then loses her husband.
      It's a friggin' miracle she came through as well-adjusted as she was, considering.

  • @plourde98
    @plourde98 2 ปีที่แล้ว +62

    Something VERY subtle they do is try and emphasis the first time they show Abuelo Pedro’s death that the miracle might be a result of his sacrifice. But the second time they show it the candle only explodes with power and kills the pursuers when Abuela lets out a wail that is somehow so heartbreaking without having any sound, revealing that the miracle wasn’t set into motion by Pedro’s sacrifice but by Abuela’s grief. The way that she was treating her family was a result of a small amount of that grief still being unresolved, she never let her guard down after that to allow herself to enjoy the beautiful family she was given

    I love your response to Luisa - she's my favourite, too. All strong on the outside, but soft on the inside, and girly through and through. It really pissed me off when people started complaining about her being the big, strong character, and wondering why that couldn't have been a boy instead. Screw that, it's 2022, and girls can be anything. They made a big mistake with the toys - no separate Luisa at all, and the Isabella should have come with neon markers, because a lot of girls identified with New Isabella. This is the best Disney movie, ever, in many ways. I love it.

  • @a.g.demada5263
    @a.g.demada5263 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    In my opinion, Casita felt that Mirabel had something special in her and judged she didn't need a gift.
    Also, Isabela told her she's always in the way, but it's thanks to the middle pillar if a building can standing up (the one who's always on the way).
    This movie shows really well how a child can feel when he doesn't fit in the mold. I have ASD and I feel like an outcast in my family because of it and I'm the big sister

  • @scr9069
    @scr9069 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Mirabel wasn't excluded from the family picture. I'm not sure why people keep assuming that Mirabel didn't join the picture because she somehow wasn't allowed to? Nothing was stopping her from joining; no one would have said anything if she tried. She just felt so left out and alienated from the family that she felt like she wasn't included when Abuela called for "everyone" to come, and her feelings were validated when no one noticed she wasn't there. Her parents at least should've noticed, admittedly, but my theory is that no one noticed because the family picture was just that chaotic and off-the-cuff. I'm pretty sure that, if you look from the front/the camera's perspective, Isabela's arm movements blocked her poor father's face, which is not something you'd normally want in a family photograph.
    No one's speaking up because no one has the courage to backtalk Abuela. No one really agrees with her, but that's just how the culture is. Mirabel's the only one who can really stand up to Abuela, because she's the scapegoat/black sheep/cycle breaker.

    • @LordofFullmetal
      @LordofFullmetal ปีที่แล้ว +4

      She was excluded though. Because in my family, you'd get called over. If you didn't walk over yourself, someone would go "Hey X, get over here! Don't you wanna be in the picture?"
      The fact that no one bothered to do that - no one even bothered to check if Mirabel was in the shot - IS her being excluded. She wasn't important enough for anyone to make sure she was there.

    This is my favorite movie of all time, not just Disney movies. That generational trauma hits like a truck for someone who has it in their family and there's so many little details. You can watch this movie a dozen times and still find new stuff or new angles on it.

  • @Melissa-wx4lu

    There is the newest Disney... Turning Red.
    For me, this movie ranks pretty high for the newer of Disney Pixar movies. Being from a Hispanic family there are some things being said that trigger some long-buried ptsd, but i'm glad that my family, like this one, reconciled and that trauma has stopped.
    For me though it's a hard battle between these and the Disney Renaissance movies. My favorites being Beauty and the Beast, Aladin, The Little Mermaid, Lion King. those were movies of my childhood and I hold them high and close to me.

    I see the three act
    s as : Act One: Here is our family. Runs from "The Family Madrigal" to "Waiting on a Miracle". Act Two is Something is wrong, we have to figure out what it is. Runs from the morning after "Waiting on a Miracle" to "What Else Can I Do?" The Third Act is: It's all Broken, How do We Fix this? This runs from when The House Breaks to "All of You" and the End of the Movie. It's obvious that time is sped up in the third act. That house wasn't rebuilt in a Day or even a week. Months, maybe even seasons (depending on how you take three changes of light in that one scene). After all, Augustin's bee stings are gone in the scene of rebuilding the kitchen. So yeah, the time on screen is truncated, but the rest of the film happens on a very short time frame.Two days in-movie for the first two acts, and maybe up to three months for the last one.

    Pixar was bought by Disney a long time ago. They were Disney's greatest competition for cutting edge animation, and story lines. Disney wanted to learn from Pixar, and profit from them. Pixar studio is a separate subdivision from Disney Animation Studio. Generally Pixar is usually better, but not always, in my opinion. My favorite by Pixar, is the movie Luca, because I relate to it. Onward is also very good. Pixar's masterpiece by far is the movie Coco. These three movies will all tug at your heartstrings. That is what Pixar does best. All of these would be good to react to. There are quite a few others by both Disney and Pixar that are excellent.

    Mirabel is NOT "excluded from the picture." Abuela invites EVERYONE. No one indicates in any way that Mirabel should not join them. She is the one who holds back...and they do what many tactful families would do. They allow Mirable to set her limits: hide behind curtains, not join the community intentionally, and NOT step into the photo-shoot. Would you make a kid with a sore spot take part in something they might feel bad about?
    It's important to turn this story around, and recognize that while Mirabel (and Bruno) both have legitimate feelings of isolation, they also self-impose a lot for the same sort of reasons that Luisa doesn't openly object to being the family beast of burden and Isabel doesn't complain at being expected to be perfect, up to marrying a man she doesn't want and didn't choose.

    • @sorchamiana
      @sorchamiana 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much for this! Very eloquently phrased! 🙏💕
      Most people view it as Mirabel being excluded but as someone who once sat out of a family picture (because I was new to the family and too self-conscious to join) I can really relate to Mirabel in this scene! She knows she would be welcome but she feels like an outsider and holds herself back. If I could go back and do it over, I would have joined in!
