The cloistered orders like the Carmelites and Poor Clares and similar took a beating in the wake of Vatican II. There was a dearth of vocations and as the community of elderly nuns dwindled they joined with other communities and their monasteries (nuns under solemn vows live in monasteries and not convents) were taken over by the local Bishop and diocese. Those who were short of money due to litigation against them saw this as a windfall as the monasteries were often in very desirable locations with land attached to them. It is up to the local Bishop to allow them into his diocese and see that they are endowed (provide with money) either from the funds of the diocese or pledged by benefactors. They also depend on the local Bishop to supply them with a priest and his permission to allow them to celebrate in the Tridentine Rite. Not all Bishops will allow this, and a change of Bishop may mean that those who previously had access to the traditional Latin Mass no longer may do so. This is further complicated by the recent announcement by Pope Francis that the right to offer Holy Mass in the Tridentine Rite is reserved to him and not to the local Bishops. Pope Francis is not known to favour tradition and those close to him are even talking about the validity of the strictly enclosed life in our times saying that it belongs to former age and not appropriate today. Having said this, it is the contemplative enclosed orders that seem to be making a comeback and revival with a steady increase in numbers. Let us pray that the local Bishops are charitably disposed towards them because they need his permission to make a foundation in his diocese.

A discerned a monastic life with the Carmelites of Concord, NH and did my "live in" joyfully! Yet the Sisters we're growing older and fewer in number and before I entered they were asked to "disperse" and that vocation ended. So sad for all of us! Asked to disperse? What does that mean? Just go back into the world? What about sisters who literally have no one, no family or friends left and no place to go? What if religious in such situations did as many in Iron Curtain countries? Appealed to the faithful for funds or a place to live, designed their own modest style of clothing so as to be not so noticeable in the world, arranged for those with ability to work in the world, and the others to pray and do house and land work. They live as close to religious lives as possible rather than split up? So far as I can see, no sin is committed and the Church or bishop would have no rights over them since they’ve been ordered out of their convent and out into the world. Mass may be seldom, but surely a priest or two could be found to say a private Mass in someone’s home! Or perhaps you could live as a religious hermitess?

Awesome. In discerning monastic life myself, I'm turned off by the places that I feel are so lax, so comfortable, like a retirement home for all ages. I love the life that these sisters have made. And the austerity is not for its own sake, or pride and self-righteousness, or for some neurotic self-punishment, but for closeness with God; mortifying flesh to obtain spiritual life, and then to intercede on our behalf. Remember before they were placed in their mother’s womb God created them in the palm of His hand and set their purpose for which they were to come and fulfill. If it is their vocation it is already blessed and given and only a matter of time before they reveal what the Lord has already inscribed in their hearts. About fourteen years ago, eight of us witnessed the Holy Face, of the Shroud of Turin. The beautiful vision appeared to us after we had completed the Holy Rosary, in the little Church of Saint Thomas the Apostle, Abercynon, South Wales, UK. The Holy Face appeared around the Crucifix on the Church Altar. Our dear Lord’s eyes were closed. I have never witnessed anything like this in my life, I am a convert to the Catholic faith. I will always remember that special moment and share it whenever the opportunity arises.

There are quite a few Carmelite monasteries that keep with the tradition of the church. Not just this community. But their priests are dubious.
We don’t have many of these precious consecrated souls to offer prayers and sacrifices to God. Our world needs these brides of Christ so much today.

A discerned a monastic life with the Carmelites of Concord, NH and did my "live in" joyfully! Yet the Sisters we're growing older and fewer in number and before I entered they were asked to "disperse" and that vocation ended. So sad for all of us! This video displays so kindly the beauty of a Walk with n for Christ within His creation and Word. Joyful to watch. Thank you, your Sister in Christ Jesus!
Asked to disperse? What does that mean? Just go back into the world? What about sisters who literally have no one, no family or friends left and no place to go? What if religious in such situations did as many in Iron Curtain countries? Appealed to the faithful for funds or a place to live, designed their own modest style of clothing so as to be not so noticeable in the world, arranged for those with ability to work in the world, and the others to pray and do house and land work. They live as close to religious lives as possible rather than split up? So far as I can see, no sin is committed and the Church or bishop would have no rights over them since they’ve been ordered out of their convent and out into the world. Mass may be seldom, but surely a priest or two could be found to say a private Mass in someone’s home!
Or perhaps you could live as a religious hermitess?
If your health is good and you still long to be a victim of atonement to give Him your all for poor sinners, then write to the nuns. God bless you.

Dear sisters, your sacrifice to lead the life so simple, filler with prayer, peace and simple tasks is something this contemporary world has very much forgotten and that's why is heading towards self-destruction in this life and for eternity. Dear sisters, please pray for salvation of souls, please, pray for my 15th year old son Matthew, so Jesus Christ may enlighten his soul, mind and enable him to choose the right path, whatever God's plan is for him ( both as a profession and as life vocation ). Give me strength and patience Lord Jesus, please so I can fulfi all ofl my duties as mum with great love and gentleness and as a teacher at my work. Amen

Awesome. In discerning monastic life myself, I'm turned off by the places that I feel are so lax, so comfortable, like a retirement home for all ages. I love the life that these sisters have made. And the austerity is not for its own sake, or pride and self-righteousness, or for some neurotic self-punishment, but for closeness with God; mortifying flesh to obtain spiritual life, and then to intercede on our behalf. Do they already love to make sacrifices for Charity? Do they already spend time every day in silent prayer and meditation? Do they already honour God’s Divine Presence throughout their day? Do you already do all these things to teach them by example???❤😊
Remember before they were placed in their mother’s womb God created them in the palm of His hand and set their purpose for which they were to come and fulfill. If it is their vocation it is already blessed and given and only a matter of time before they reveal what the Lord has already inscribed in their hearts. So do not fret whatever vocation they discern for each and everyone of our vocations is the Lord’s will

About fourteen years ago, eight of us witnessed the Holy Face, of the Shroud of Turin. The beautiful vision appeared to us after we had completed the Holy Rosary, in the little Church of Saint Thomas the Apostle, Abercynon, South Wales, UK. The Holy Face appeared around the Crucifix on the Church Altar. Our dear Lord’s eyes were closed. I have never witnessed anything like this in my life, I am a convert to the Catholic faith. I will always remember that special moment and share it whenever the opportunity arises.
