Good lord....what a performance - all good but the last 30 seconds or so were fantastic....proper rock 'n' roll....Les Pauls & Vox valve amps no doubt..
I saw these guys in Atlanta in the 90's and the thing I was most impressed by was meeting the lead singer on the dance floor while no music was playing. He was nothing like the stage persona he takes on in this video or on their official videos. The guy was extremely masculine without an ounce of femininity. I can't remember the performance, but, I remember that because it was so unexpected.
I read his book and he said he took on a feminine personality at times because of his mother leaving him ( I think she died,) and then Justine Frishmann (who was originally in Suede then later in Elastica) also left him. Anyway it made more sense they way he explained it - but still a bit strange
I do love all Suede songs, but they certainly missed guitar legend Bernard Butler when he left the band, and I still feel the self-titled record is one of the greatest debut albums ever made. Still sounds fresh and exciting as it did back in the 90s when released :-)
Brilliant performance by the band, amazing axe-savagery from Bernard! But have you ever heard a more phoned-in speech than Jay Leno's unwittingly-hilarious introduction?! He sounds half-asleep! That blistering version of Metal Mickey certainly should've roused him from his slumber
Yeah, that intro was pretty lackluster. I got the impression Leno didn't like their music and was sort of going through the motions of introducing them.
@@Monoville God you're right. It never ceases to amaze me the utter cluelessness of show hosts. I say this as a show host myself (on radio) and as a musician/recording artist. I know EVERYTHING about the records of the bands and solo artists I play on my shows - titles, years of releases, back stories, chart positions, production credits, durations even. But cats like Conan and Leno and so many others especially on TV don't seem to give a flying fuck. It's lamentable x
It's slightly funny that the inventors of the most Brit-centric scene of that period should be awarded a place here. They're not American and they should never been. I almost feel like a gatekeeper on that front.
I was one of those screaming in the audience! Awesome watching them for their 1st performance in the U.S.
Raw, gritty, talented, original, unique, sexy, filthy...I LOVE IT!!!!!!!
Bernard Butler and his savage guitar playing 👏

@@robertwilson3866he was a massive junky in the early days of suede. The drugs had a lot to do with it I think

@@SaintD382 like jay leno has any taste
Tbf at least he got the album title right, Conan introduced them by saying "their debut album Nude" (which was the record label).

Yes it's crazy. There is only one Suede.
@@rorymacgowan4541 exactly these guys. They are one of many bands that had to renamed across the Atlantic. The Beat had to be call The English Beat

Ey?
Wonderful song. But Brett looked like he didn't care.
Jay Leno had no clue what greatness awaited. He wanted Paula Abdul instead.
lol
Yeah Leno demonstrated just how square he was. No f in clue.
