  • Finding the right talent for the food and beverage industry just got easier. A new job portal tailored to the food services sector aims to recruit more Singaporeans into the workforce by better matching preferences of jobseekers to company needs. CNA speaks to Benjamin Boh, Vice President of the Restaurant Association of Singapore, who is also the Managing Director of McDonald's Singapore. He talks about the benefits of the new portal and how it aims to be a platform to better match employers and employees alike. He also discusses how it can help convince local residents to try their hand in the industry, which has a reputation of being a tough sector to work in.

So where are the “better jobs for Singaporeans”? How many Singaporeans and how many Permanent Residents (PRs) get them?

To sum up, the minister claims that putting a dampener on growth when employment is full is myopic. Mr Giam WP and Mr LeongPSP, on the other hand, are deeply perturbed that the bulk of the jobs created do not directly benefit Singaporeans.

While it makes fb easier to look for jobs, but it doesn’t solved the root of the problem. Furthermore for fb quite a large sum of people are above 40 or 50 years old, and might not be able to be that savvy.

Pressed in Parliament for a breakdown on jobs going to Singaporeans and PRs, Minister Chan Chun Sing said: “We can get you the numbers. But let me say this: what is the point behind the question?”

“For jobs that Singaporeans are not interested to take on, we should welcome foreign talents and not make it difficult for them to fill these roles. Singaporeans, be they job seeker or employer, needs must come first,” he added.

Ask till the cows come home and we are none the wiser. The data and statistics presented - like navigating through a maze - do not give us the picture.

Why any breakdown of local and foreign workers for jobs created is deemed not meaningful?
Minister Chan also pledged (before the last election): “We will work hard to make sure everyone who wants a job can get a job.”
    Words come easy, don’t they?

Mr Khoo went on to say that although it is not inconceivable for some companies to suffer from higher cost in employing Singaporeans, they would need to re-examine their business model and costs.
