      Sigh now you have made EVERYTHING you have to say in this video questionable. Sorry but pushing a mobile gotcha game is the fastest way to make your content suspect of being bought and paid for bias on your part. Came here looking for honest, valid, personal reviews of content without having you being paid as an influencer to push certain games. Now I have to realize you're just pushing ads for whoever is the highest bidder.

    Just knowing that there are other people in the world is enough for me. You are never truly alone and if you want can always party up. I enjoy doing stuff on my own in real life, so this seems natural in an MMO. There's stuff you can get done alone in life, quite alot. But there are things you'll need friends or other people for. That's what I love about MMORPGs.

    One note on ESO. A lot of solo players are mount collectors. ESO makes it near impossible to work toward or even buy a cool mount you see in the game. That is because they have 5 basic mounts. A Wolf, A Cat, A bear, A horse, and A Frog. Each season, or month, or something, these 5 but with a new look become 'available'. I say available, But here's the rub. Say they are doing a fire theme, and you love the fire bear. You have to buy loot boxes, which can rarely drop a mount. But not your choice of the 5. Even if a mount drops, it may be the frog, the horse, you could go broke trying for a specific one. Also, if you're out in the world and see someone on... say an epic frost looking Cat, you have no way to quest toward or buy one. That was in the 3 months ago loot box. Maybe it will will come around next year, when you can have a chance to get a chance to get that particular mount again.
    TLDR: see a cool mount, most likely no way to earn or buy it.

    Guild Wars 2 is the BEST! Don't be put off by the fact that it's so old. That just means you have YEARS of content to play through. Plus we have the nicest community and a mega-awesome wiki to help out. Hope to see you there!

    • @theminister1154
      @theminister1154 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Actually Lord of the rings online has a better community. Gw2 is very solid, but the younger demographic is a little bit squelched, tho very helpful.
      Lotro should not be missing from this list. It's a good challenging single player experience and one of the best expressions of Lord of the rings. The story content is an excellent playthrough. The biggest downside is the fee to pay system is very capricious. Sometimes it's way too expensive. Sometimes they give away the store for free.

    It's been years that my friends got too busy with real life to get gaming, but I kept at Guild Wars 2 and had tons of fun (and met new people) even alone, getting lost exploring and running after everything randomly. 100% agree that many aspects of the game are very solo-friendly!

  • @abraxis59
    @abraxis59 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +22

    Great list with just the right caveats to make it clear what you are getting yourself in for. I play these games almost exclusively solo with the exception of the auto grouping open world encounters. For me, I play solo because I like to absorb the story and lore and play at my own pace, but it is nice to FEEL like you are in a world that is actually alive. I like SEEING other players and knowing they are there sharing the world with me, but I can still do my own thing. I ran a WOW guild with over 200 players (not characters... players) and that eventually became more work than fun and broke me of all desire to play with others. So solo I go and I am very happy for it.
    I have played a good bit of SWTOR and I LOVED the story quests (I played mostly when it first came out). That one I can vouch for myself is SUPER solo friendly. It is sad to hear they simplified the content too much, but I still think it is worth a play as you said.

    The thing I've not yet seen in other MMO's I've tried is HOW gw2 handles group activities just on the maps, you can join in AND your contribution is counted toward the event itself AND you get your own loot, no sharing and no competing. The map 'meta' are great fun and there are other smaller event chains on most of the other open world maps that you can just join in on, get xp for the event succeeding and everyone can get rewards from kills and open chests. If the event succeeds for you it succeeds for everyone who contributed and the event chain continues if there is one, for everyone on that map. Same with nodes for materials, everyone has their own loot from them so you aren't ever depriving someone if you hit up that rich iron node or whatever. Some of the events are huge, require multiple groups of people co-ordinating across the maps and reward everyone with a bunch of chests to open that they all can open. So you can do "solo" stuff all day but you always feel like you're kind of in a group anyway on any map bc anything you do to progress any of the little events that pop up everywhere is rewarded to you.

    Thank you for explaining WHY people play MMOs solo. Far too many times in game forums and other places, you always have THAT person who rants, "Why play an MMO and not just go play a single player game?!?" I really hate that. You explained WHY in a very articulate manner. I am the type of player who isn't a game hopper, I prefer to play a single game for months or years at a time... something you cannot do with a single player game. However, the downside of your video, you should mention WHICH of these support controllers and which do not. That is the reason I cannot play SWTOR or WOW, because they don't offer controller support. I play on PC but with controller, since I play on the couch, it isn't feasible to play with KB/M.

    • @mmosquissh

    This is definitely something I find value for in MMOs as sometimes I jump on games like this to play on whims and don't want to plan everything out with people on my friends lists. Lost ark would be on that list at the top for me. It arguably should not be on the list in this video, endgame without other ppl to play with feels bad. Once you get past the easy content, you will need to play in a group. Otherwise you will not be able to progress. The endgame content is actually very challenging to progress through for the 1st time on the level of gear requirement and not getting carried buy over geared players. This challenging content and the very harsh gatekeeping in pug lobbies pushes you towards finding other players to play with regularly.

    My wife and I play MMOs "solo" for story line and world exploration. We are both business professionals who still enjoy gaming so we don't have time for guild events or raids. I'm very happy with the trend to focus on solo play and story line. We have played many of the existing MMOs and moved on when the content got boring, grind based or PvP focused. Today, it is hard to justify staying in a boring MMO even if it is F2P. You still feel like you are wasting time if not money.

    Its good they are focusing on making the games better for the solo players, there are a lot of good MMO games that are focused on having to play with others where you have to join a guild or be in a group past a certain level. I know its an MMOP and that's the point, but I like to play a game for its content, story and re-playability. There are a lot of people like myself that only really likes to play with close friends and not a bunch of randoms/trolls/children or adults that act like children.

  • @roxstar5088
    @roxstar5088 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I consider myself a public solo player. Just minding my own business and sometimes this means doing something with other people. But not really the person that joins statics or something. I really like talking to random people and such but I kinda switch games like every week and don't like the pressure of "I have to log on every day" most groups require of you. I can simply peace out for half a year or longer whenever I like. Also in the many many years of playing MMO's I really noticed a change in attitude, just like the rest of societies. For example guilds are often consistent of a core group of friends that knows each other for a long time and that plays games together. And then their are the rest of the grunts that get randomly invited to do the busy work. And as a grunt it's kinda hard to rise up. Like going to club now-a-days is no longer about meeting new people but you see just all these groups with minimal interaction between the groups.

    I don't have friends who play MMOs anymore because they've moved onto consoles but the point of MMOs is that you can join other people anyway which is why i like them. You're never truly alone in the game as they make it so accessible to play with others that it makes them so fun to play. Especially Guild Wars 2 with its quest event system where anyone can join in. For now though I rotate with New World, Lotro, SWTOR and Guild Wars 2. Have been trying to get into WOW but have had trouble trying to enjoy story or whatever is going on. Been trying to stick to one mmo to progress further but they all have their niche and setbacks and is hard to choose 😅
    If I had to choose I'd stick with SWTOR or LOTRO but SWTOR (Even though I love Star Wars) I feel doesn't have enough end game progression (To stick with one character) to keep you invested and LOTRO (I could be wrong) just doesn't have the large community anymore to do group content... Or at least everyone doing it is at level cap I imagine. Is a reason why I think of getting into WOW as it is massive and still has the massive community and alot of group content and items to collect by doing content and not via a store.

    Ive just never been able to get a feel for Black Desert Online. I just can't adjust to the attack skills part with all of the forward+ b and y or the diagonal up right + back twice lol. Its got a huge selection of classes and variants of each. It just feels to me like all the skills are the same on all classes but they are just skinned and animated differently. You are always casting one if several spell or ability types that look completely different depending on class. They are still the same outcomes though.
    Lost Ark is really interesting and fun. Like a japanime Diablo ish arpg. The linear story arewas you progress through keep it from being my top played game. I would have loved much more open world with the game. Its still very good as is though.

      Played (tried) Black Desert back in 2020, it was a convoluted mess with a horrible "tutorial" if you can call it that, controls sucked, yadda yadda. Then as I googled to learn how to play, it was a convoluted grind-fest with little reward for playing. Reviews said the same thing so we aren't wrong.
      I looked at Lost Ark since you mentioned it, same ol' same ol', WAS good ... Review from a guy with over 300 hours: now toxic, P2W, Microtransactions galore. Sad that the MMO genre is a dying breed.

    Having just watched the video, I couldn't agree more with the idea that MMOs are becoming more solo-friendly. For years, I've believed that solo play content is a crucial aspect of these games. While I love the immersion of being in a world filled with other players, the freedom to progress on my own terms is something I've always valued. Forcing players into mandatory party situations has often been a frustration for me. It's fantastic to see the industry evolving and recognizing the diverse preferences of players. Here's to more MMOs embracing solo-friendly content!

      That's tough. I tried to do the most basic quest in the game and it bricked half way through. the ai enemies took 8 seconds to respond to me. Star Citizen is a cool idea, but its so far from being a reliable functioning game that I can't recommend people spend money on it yet. If they ever finish it, its got a lot of really cool ideas

    Making content easy in STWOR does not make it bad. All content is adjustable to the difficulty that works for you. Nightmare to Story mode. It is up to you how hard you want the play to be.

    The point to me is: I don’t want to be forced to group up. It should be totally optional, in my opinion. If there is dedicated group content - fine! As long as I don’t have to play it (in order to get necessary gear or important story parts). The main story should be completely designed around the solo player, but with benefits, if you group up, but don’t make me miss something important.
    People shouldn’t be punished if their friends don’t play video games. I also don’t want to be forced to play all the time (subscription/ guild). I like jumping in my MMOs (ESO & Guild Wars 2) like for one or two months a year, that’s enough for me. Most of the time, I prefer playing different kinds of games.

    I've played almost all of these and ESO is by far my favorite. I didn't not like any of them. I'm over 40 and the "relaxing" solo play of ESO combined with the excellent story makes logging in every day enjoyable without the punishing frustration of accidentally doing a mechanic wrong and getting deleted instantly.

    personally i disagree with 2 of the choosen games but i can only talk about 1 becouse i havent play too much of WoW, first Lost Ark is a game that you need to play with people and specially in endgame, to be able to play on endgame without getting gatekeep is esencial to have people to play with, and yeah you can do all the rest alone but for a game that doing raids is one of the most important aspect of the game you need friends or at least people to play with, Lost Ark is not really a game to play alone. (now if you dont mind getting gatekeep and not finishing all the raids you have sure go for it).

    Good content. I played most of them some way north of 1000hrs. What kinda amazing is that how good some of them look in your video and how terrible they look in reality. New world has amazing graphics. BDO, somehow manages the same quality and somehow manages to be the most beautiful one even though it is 7-8yrs old now.
    ESO on the other hand looks fine here is but is an eyesore. I could not get myself to expansions to know if it got any better but if you do care a bit of graphics, you would not touch it.

    No way FF14 is solo when you are forced to complete dungeon as part of the main questline. I remember waiting for days probably close to a week before I can get a group to finish that dungeon before I can proceed progressing the rest of the questline. No way it is solo-able. When you are forced to group and there is no other option, then it is not solo friendly.

    I'm going to slightly disagree with ffxiv because of the post ARR content. All the way up to 50 and the end of the base msq you can do dungeons solo or with npcs but after the base msq you get bombarded by 8 player dungeons (which can't be done with npcs) and a forced 24 player dungeon (which also can't be done with npcs) before you can finish ARR.
    Oh and you can't just skip this stuff and go to heavensward its mandatory. The biggest problems isn't necessarily forced play with others its an mmo but my god even as a tank I have the longest wait times. Sometimes several hours just to do one boss to continue with the MSQ.

      they each have strengths and weaknesses. You can try GW2 and FF14 for free if you want risk free trials. if you hate jumping puzzles, GW2 is loaded with em, but they are super optional so I wouldn't say that would ruin the game for ya. the rest don't really contain a significant number of them

  • @allmyinterests5139

    I find RuneScape 3 even more solofriendly than OSRS tbh, at least if you dont have at least 3 hrs + per day and like extremely grindy games. They both are somewhat grindy, but RuneScape 3 really embraces solo gameplay on another level and you get things done faster (although still not really that fast lol.). Also, you have more content to do in general but the single content pieces itself are faster paced so it could be an interesting consideration for people who dont have multiple hours to play everyday, which I found to be absolutely necessary when playing OSRS. Now in RS3 I make lots of progress while only playing 1-2hrs / day on a regular basis, ofc on days off, it would be way more. That doesnt mean though, that RS3 was a game which is faster completed, there is so much more things to do, so much more content than in OSRS, Id say double the content, so you still always have things to do. Just dont get turned off by Reddit, the OSRS community really throws a lot of (unjustified) hate towards the game. RS3 was in a bad state when OSRS was created, but now, over a decade later, theyre two completely different cames and both are great in their own ways, they just have different target groups.

    I've played almost all of these, The best, imo, are FFXIV and SWTOR. SWTOR I only really enjoy the quests up to around 50. After that, there isn't really a cohesive story. FFXIV's only weak point imo is that late game gets a bit difficult for me. But I do still have a char that has leveled all the way up and done each and every story quest and job quest needed to the point there will be no more for her until Dawntrail comes out. Many do love ESO and GW2 but I just never could really get into those two. Black Desert is a ton of fun at first as well. Lovely game and great combat but unless you watch EvilDoUsHarm's youtube guides on leveling via quests you end up needing to grind too much. I personally think Black Desert's crafting/trade/gathering system to be the best of all games hands down.

    WoWs last user survey and Bellular research along with Josh S-H findings shows that 70% of WoW players have never finished a single raid… at any tier level. Almost 50% say they play mostly or exclusively solo.
    SWtOR is similar as are many others.
    Nothing unusual about solo players in MMOs.

    The first MMORPG I played was Maple Story. Then this genre became more and more enamored with group combat. I am not interested in dungeons, raids and other group combat scenarios. I can take PVP in small doses because players come and go during the battles. But being stuck with one group to complete progression required group combat is frustrating. Almost becoming a complete negative, if the game requires this, I am not interested.
