I don't get what she said actually... Maybe because I'm not a Godzilla fan. But I like this movie so much, that make me a fan from now. Can you recomend me the best Godzilla movies in fans perspective?

You know, when Mothra climbed on top of Godzilla and was trying to protect him from Ghidorah I instantly remembered Lady Phat Blood's Godzilla & Mothra T-shirt of Mothra hugging Godzilla and Godzilla trying to look tough and mean, like "Don't hug me!" :P
@@anonymousgoblin792 It is. It was in their first trailer reaction to Godzilla King of the Monsters: th-cam.com/video/XSxvFuYM7gY/w-d-xo.html Lady Phat Blood shows it at 13:19
Lady Phat Blood and I are in complete agreement! I disliked that they cut so often to the puny humans during the Kaiju fights. Other than that, solid Godzilla flick!
@@anonymousgoblin792 No, they aren't as bad. More watchable for sure. Only problem is that they cut to them and their problems way too much during the fights and I could NOT care less if any of them died.
@@dee85ist Pacific Rim: Uprising sucked. I hated the Godzilla (2014) movie it sucked as well. I truly loved GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS. I plan on seeing this movie again.
@@UnfaithfulServant97 And what was even better was they made it work for the story and it helped make him more of a threat and a villain. Watch any nature show or special and they will tell you the same thing: Invasive species fuck up the ecosystem
@MasterOnion North Most definitely. Godzilla underwater was Eerie as Hell. Made me think of those moments when you see a Great White swimming towards divers in a shark cage... Only Godzilla is So Much Bigger Considering they lured Rodan to Ghidorah, I can't help but wonder if Rodan thought "Oh Shit!" when he collided with Ghidorah :P I mean, he submitted to Ghidorah for a reason and probably wouldn't have wanted to fight him to begin with
The major flaw of these Godzilla films in general is that they have less violent onscreen death than say "Pacific Rim" or "Kong:Skull Island" It's a monster franchise minus cool shock horror. If Millie Bobbie Brown would have been stepped on the audience would have cheered and it wouldn't be tanking at the box office.
What's crazy for me is that half the people who don't like the fantasy aspect of it are the ones who probably enjoy watching the cars drop from the helicopter and land on the road and take off with no problem in the Fast and Furious franchise 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
Excuse me? Cars dropping out of the sky and landing and taking off like you're taking off at a race track is pure reality. I did it just last week and I'm fine. Mostly. I'm fine. Really.
I heard an interview with Michael Dougherty and he said there were certain things he had to follow and deal with that came from Legendary and Warner Brothers. Although he did not want to do it, he had to do it and make it work. He is a huge Godzilla fan, but I believe the human perspective is one of the elements that they wanted, and unfortunately he had to abide by their rules and make it work. As much as I love the movie those cut scenes annoyed me as well, but it is still the best Godzilla movie I have ever seen. The CGI was incredible. Godzilla looked awesome. Loved it. Great review. You guys rock!
Can you let us know where you heard that interview? I really dug this movie and I'm curious about the pre-production process and the things they had to compromise on.
This wasn't totally perfect but it was a total love letter to the franchise & I love it Edit: a month later and I'm gonna see it for a THIRD time. Would I have liked more titan fights? Oh hell yes; but I still had a lot of fun the first two times I saw it and odds are I'm gonna have just as much fun the third time :)
Me, my wife, and son went and saw it Saturday night and loved it. I though it is the closest an American Godzilla film could come to being a Japanese Godzilla film.
Won't lie i was disappointed and happy when i heard a lil kid in the theaters with me I'm like this kid is gonna be hype af like I'm 17 but when I'm older and be a dad I'm gonna be 😞 oh god gotta take a kid to a movie about huge monsters good luck
Totally agree about your first major issue with the movie, and you helped me further identify what bothered me about it. Despite a plot taken straight out of a Showa era film, the American style just doesn't vibe with it. The Japanese films have the characters sit back and take in the battles, but the American films insist on throwing the human characters into the frey. It takes the focus away from the kaiju.
Like in most Godzilla movies the human characters are easily forgetful.. Except that wise cracking grey haired old fella on the monarch plane...I was praying Ghidorah would fry his ass!!!
This review is making me understand your point of view better, what you guys are looking for in a movie. I'm surprised that I actually agree with alot of things you said. Great review!
My wife and I were a little let down on the first showing, it was TONS BETTER on the second viewing. We have now seen it four times. There’s a lot you miss on the first viewing. We loved it. RE-WATCH THE FINAL BATTLE!!! The Godzilla nuclear pulse sound is Mothra’s screech. I deny that you were let down. You were seeing the trailers and didn’t get the rush from the action scenes you were expecting, that’s all. We had the same experience. Go see it again!! I mean it!!!
The CG to make these movies cost a shit ton. It's not that they're ashamed to have them just straight fight for 5 minutes, even with the big budget they could never afford that.
I'm with you guys 100% i enjoyed the film but those cut away from the fights got really irritating. Hopefully they'll get it right with Godzilla vs kong
Love the movie too. And yes the cut way is irritating just like 2014 but at least it's not we keep focusing on humans too much but still wish just those fight scenes to be focused instead making it in the background.
The movie was originally going to be 3 hours and they cut 48 minutes. I really hope the Blue Ray includes some deleted scenes...I WANT to see more of it.
I loved it. I seriously felt like a little kid coming out of the theater. Seeing King Ghidorah him self in common day CGI I was so mesmerized at how insanely real it looked. Overall fantastic movie I give it a 10/10!
I totally agree with you about the breaking ups of fight scenes. I enjoyed the movie but I wish they would have let the fight scenes go. It’s a global audience and they could have stayed with the stars of the movie which is the Godzilla and the Kaiju crew.
Nik Terin I don’t know it that’s a the case so much as the cost of doing multiple high grade 10-15 minute nonstop cgi scene. I find it hard to believe that they would throw expensive cgi scenes on the cutting room floor. I do realize that there was a lot to cover in setting up future movies and monsters and so editing this down had to be challenging. But overall the fights were great and I’m looking forward to future monsterverse flicks.
Just wanted to say u guys were right. Most if the negative reviews were from people who have not watched a SINGLE Godzilla movie. I'm just........I'm just...........aaauuggghhh.
Did you guys see the shot where they armed the cannons when Godzilla was approaching the underwater base? The screen said Maser Cannons online. I lost it.
This was a fantastic love letter to old school Godzilla. Everybody complains about the story and the acting but who goes to see it for that? Besides the originals were terrible on both counts ALWAYS and they still keep us coming back for more. Long live the King!
The movie was fantastic, the plot and characters were fully consistent with Godzilla mythos, it was straight-up fan service, honored so much of the past, and set up a great future - absolutely loved it!
Well not exactly. I feel like Godzilla is going to beat Kong but not kill him. Then they team up to defeat what ever monster they are going to through at us. However there will be a definitive winner.
Holy shit I just called it over on the Weekly Planet. I couldn't agree more. Without giving spoilers, certain things pointed directly to that. That will be great!
That's what I've been saying too! That Ghidorah head in the credits, the fact that the original 1963 Kong vs GZ was just about a virtual tie, mecha GZ was made with bones from GZ (so Ghidorah would be similar), and killing either GZ or Kong would be awful! lol..
American audiences (mainstream adults )do not handle fantasy very well- what you said is so true. Imagination is MIA. So they need human characters to anchor it for them. Loved your review!
This movie was beautiful. That beauty though cost a lot. I left the theater basically thinking they ran out of money. This movie needed an extra 30 min. 15 min of Godzilla vs ghidorah, 10 more min of Mothra, especially her interacting with humans and being a beacon of hope. And 5 min more for Rodan or the humans. I think they spent a ton of the money on making the monsters look great and just didn't have enough left for the longer fights. The kid in me had fun and liked it. Yes I agree with everyone else, needed more fighting. Still great to me :)
I agree mostly with what you have to say. I thought the movie was pretty good, but it could have been better. I wasn't as annoyed by the humans as many seem to be; I found the family story to be fine (I didn't hate the characters). The fight scenes definitely suffer from the current American style of action-filming where it's choppy and quickly edited. The first fight in Antarctica I didn't mind because it basically was a teaser and did a good job of showing what it would be like to be a human in a giant monster fight. The Rodan fight in the middle I thought was the best fight in the movie, when he was fighting the jets and then took on Ghidora. The final fight in Boston was okay; since I didn't mind the humans as much I wasn't as bothered by the inter-cuts. But I would certainly be pleased if they added in extra fight scenes for the Blu-Ray. Overall, I'd give it a 4/5. I think it's more satisfying than 2014 but it seems like it'll rank behind Kong: Skull Island and the first Pacific Rim in the ranks of American Kaiju Movies.
Greetings from Indonesia! Just watched it yesterday, and overall I am quite satisfied with the film (have plans to re-watch it again soon). Of course I could nitpick and find flaws in it, but as a whole it was great fun watching the movie. Lady Phat Blood mentioned something about somebody at WB and/or Legendary "pussed-out" and considered the "human element" is more important in this film...which got me thinking: As far as I am aware, the director of KOTM Mike Dougherty is a fan of the Big G. I am going to assume that he's also well-versed in the old Showa/Heisei/Millenium Era films. As such, IF given free reign and budget, he would've came up with that perfect Godzilla movie you've been waiting for. HOWEVER, the execs at WB and/or Legendary may have other thoughts due to several factors, including but not limited to wanting to cater to the general (read: non fans) audience. As much as he wanted to, he couldn't do it because of these limiting factors. And even with his hands tied, he and his team were able to deliver this much to us. If that were indeed the case, then hats off to him for being able to give us this enjoyable "compromise" of a movie. Now let's see if Adam Wingard could do better in GvK next year...
Great review guys, and there is no need to apologize! I totally agree with your observations on the way the US can't focus on fighting as a storyline. Great review and thanks for always being so straightforward. You guys rock, stay awesome!
I truly enjoyed this Godzilla film. It is open to so many more directions they can go as far as writing for sequels. I want to think this is an easter egg, and if people agree that it is, then it's my favorite:The moment Godzilla arrives in Boston and blasts Ghidorah seems to reenact his coolest entrance ever- Showing up to face Titanosaurus for the first time. Enemy kaiju smashing shit, prrffffffffkkkkk, skreeeeeonnnngk! Pan to Godzilla. Play Theme song. One of my favorite parts. I just got my Monster Arts 2019 Godzilla figure and have to wait till August for my Ghidorah figure. The only gripe I had about the film was the Oxygen Destroyer. Such a large weight in Godzilla lore and it was just kinda thrown in there like We made a thing, better gtfo, and then its over. Only gripe I had. And yes, the remaining Ghidorah head is the derpy head Godzilla ripped off first.
THIS, THIS is the ONLY channel review I cared to see :) from 2 fans who "get it" as much as anyone. I agree with most (not all) of what you two had to say both in the positives and a few of the negatives Lady Phat mentions specifically. Which I LOVE and ADORE that both speak your minds and come from good places even when we disagree :). I loved this as a big budget Hollywood treatment of a movie of a genre (monster/kiju films) I NEVER thought would get a big budget AMERICAN version after the UTTER $HIT the 1990's version was. So I would personally give it a solid 7.75 or 8/10 where as my wife would be even a little higher. Thank you both for getting this out to your fans asap from the car even :). All the best!!!
I had the exact same thoughts! Been a fan since I was about 6 (now 21) and the hype made me think this film was going to be more. The visual effects were great but the battles were lackluster and that’s because of how they kept holding back on the action scenes. In the Toho movies, the monsters get to tell a story on their own when they battle. That’s what was missing throughout the film to me. I just feel they dropped the ball on what could’ve been a way more epic movie considering it literally had the 3 most iconic kaiju besides Godzilla. K vs. G is probably going to be the exact same so my excitement has gone down a little bit but I’m probably still gonna watch when it comes out.
It sucks man I really wanted to like this I also was a huge fan of Godzilla. This is a travesty, I came out of the theater still with my fanboy glasses on but even then I felt conflicted and confused so I went back in and came out hating the characters, hating the plot and hating the obnoxious cutting away. I am a big fan of mothra and I wanted to see mothra actually fight but we didn't see that.... I'm just disappointed, King Ghidorah could have been soo much more...
I think its a damn shame if this King of the Monsters sequel doesnt do well at box-office cause its a good movie, it is truly for Godzilla fans fuck mainstream audiences and critics ruining everything.
@@SCROGY it's an analogy, i'm talking about what it felt like - it's not mathematical precision and can't be as it would be taken scene-for-scne. But you knew that already, didn't you. >_< And be careful what you wish for - people are already reporting timing the sequences and apparently the word is the monsters only have +1 minute more onscreen time than they did in 2014.
It had the same feel as a 90s Godzilla movie with the plot, human characters, and monster fights, exept now it's done in beautiful modern CGI. And those are just some of the reasons I loved it. And the original Godzilla roar mixed in with his new one was excellent
This was a solid Godzilla flick. And I totally agree with Lady Phat Blood. They did cut to the humans a little bit too much. But I understood the plot like she said classic Toho move. And I did enjoy seeing a little bit of that Toho goofiness when Mothra rammed Gihadora heads into the building then Godzilla rams him through the building. Love the fact that they used the original score from 1954. And I love go go Godzilla. Awesome reaction guys I'm definitely subscribing to your channel.
It seems they are gradually understanding that the monsters are the main attraction not the humans. The end credit scene gives me hope that they can redeem themselves and let kong vs Godzilla brawl the fuck out and any other monsters 😉
Gotta love your deep knowledge on Godzilla's cinematography, how detailed orientated your comments and observations are about the topic. I was looking forward to your review right after watching the movie. Thanks a lot folks - you guys Rock!!!!
Another great review guys. I feel your thoughts. I one 4 one just anticipated that it may have flaws again. But considering the fast pace it had , the actors line weren't that long that u will get bored. They switch back to the battle immediately. Anyway, d first 5 mins showing the flashback on San Francisco. Godzilla was just MAJESTIC. Whew
The second time watching is more enjoyable ... because I care so much about Godzilla movies, I critique and analyze everything so much that it’s hard to just enjoy. The second time around you know what your getting and it’s even more fun. 10 months til Godzilla V Kong!
this year my 1st favorite movie Godzilla watched 3times n theater.... 1st time for Godzilla 2nd time for mothra 3rd time for Godzilla n mothra n ghidora n rodan.... long live king
I thought the reason why she was doing it was good. She was a broken woman from losing her son. She wasn't fueled by rational thought. It was irrational as fuck and she realized it because of her daughter. It had some good character moments. I did feel like it was rushed, the whole movie. I know for a fact scenes were cut.
I can totally see what you guys found wrong with the movie, and did agree with it cutting to the humans too much in the middle of fights. I think the REAL issue with the movie was they tried to throw too much into it at once, which shrunk down the fights within the movie's runtime. That being said, the fights were still fun to watch and the soundtrack was by far the best of any Godzilla movie, with the tribal mix into it. Love your reaction regardless guys.
I just want to say this. Out of all the review videos I have seen for this film, I enjoy your guys review the most. Your review not only examined this film, but also dissected the core of the Godzilla franchise and the original films. Also shout out to lady phat blood for that very informative introduction. She pointed out very excellent and clear points about the film and franchise as a whole. I have been watching your reactions to the trailers for a while now and I must say, you guys are my favorite kaiju/Godzilla fans. I just saw this film today, and I was blown away. The visuals and music score reminded me of the classic Godzilla films. The vfx and special effects were superb. The Easter eggs were great and the respect to the monster designs were perfect. I especially enjoyed the films use of combining these fictional monsters with real world mythology. Those moments were my favorite. While there were moments of the film that did slightly bother me (i.e. more focus of humans that the monsters), I would still see this film again. Now I pose this question to you both. We know that Godzilla is going to fight against kong next year. However, would you both be more interested in seeing a film where Godzilla faces off against another classic kaiju, one who is known as defender of the earth: Gamera. In my honest opinion, I would much rather prefer seeing a film with these two than Godzilla vs kong in the sense that both are seen as keepers of balance in their own respective universes. All in all, I really enjoyed this film and really enjoyed your guys in depth review of it.
THAT PHAT SAMURAI GUY thank you. Though it may never happen, the fight between those two alpha kaiju was be unforgettable. Especially if gamera would punch Godzilla with his kaiju falcon punch he did in Gameras revenge
THAT PHAT SAMURAI GUY th-cam.com/video/iMOl-amah8w/w-d-xo.html I want you guys to react to this. I just found this early today and I want to hear your thoughts on it.
I loved the film but it was over hyped by them epic trailers. The fights were decent and the easter eggs are clear to see. Hope it dose good but not looking that way. Thanks for another honest review am just happy we got another American Godzilla film made. Love your channel keep up the good work
It wasn't perfect by any means but I loved it. All the call backs, easter eggs, and the music. Seeing all the monsters I loved as a kid on the big screen? Amazing. Humans? Mehhhh. 7/10. It was fun and I will buy it when I can.
Thanks to the low box office and the fact that it under performed everywhere mostly except for China Godzilla vs Kong will probably be the last one we get. I hope the movie has a strong hold in the coming weeks because it's not looking good. Alot of critics have there pitchforks out for this movie. That aside Mothra was the MVP and I loved the movie. I do agree with the cutaways from the kaiju fights. I love how when godzilla was using the nuclear pulse attack or whatever it was called you could see Mothras pattern in the explosions.
Love you guys so much. This is the only King of the Monsters review that I agree with and were spot on with nearly everything. I have to see it again though.
Never before or probably until I see your review of Godzilla vs Kong will I watch all 1:06 & 40 seconds of basically two people reviewing a movie I have recently watched.... Butttt.... You guys are amazing!... I am a HUGE Godzilla fan and have been since I was a 8 year old kid, staying up to watch the old Toho classics in the early / mid 90's back in the UK and when you both speak it totally resonates with me as that is EXACTLY how I feel about the whole Godzilla genre. The passion is there and love for the big G is plain and obvious and you both speak with such vigour, which is why aswell as enjoying your reaction videos with regards to Godzilla - King of the Monsters, I have also watched ALL of your review which I would never do any other time..... I totally agree with all the points you make and I sincerly hope that Legendary start showing some balls for the huge Godzilla vs Kong that is coming up in 2020!..... The music score is immense I too got goosebumps in the cinema and loved the easter eggs but the potential was there and it just didn't quite hit the heights that it could of done..... Saying that I still give it a solid 8/10 score
I loved it, been watching Godzilla since I was 5 when I saw the 1984 movie, saw every film except destroy all monsters, the movie made felt like a kid again watch the Godzilla Marathons on TNT, alot of Nostalgia and Nostalgia Easter Eggs, hope in the next one there's be more Monster Battles, no humans
Hey guys glad you enjoyed the movie. Don’t forget the older movies used a lot of cutaways especially in Ghidorah The Three Headed Monster when during the final showdown they cut to the human characters pretty often. Cutaways while it did pretty much annoy me in the 2014 movie it didn’t bother me here because it made the fighting more creative.
I agree and understand what Lady says. Totally legit in everything she mentions. As a long time Kaiju fan, I absolutely was blown away and left almost speechless. It Actually exceeded my expectations. I loved it and yes, it is not perfect but boy was it a fun, rollercoaster of a monster ride. I couldn't be happier to see how Ghidorah, Mothra and Rodan looked. I especially loved Rodan's initial appearance in Mexico. So chilling!!! Godzilla looked better than ever and I too was so excited to see Burning Godzilla!!! Yes, I also would have loved and enjoyed more kaiju fights. I will definitely check it out again. Love you guys and every reaction/review/analysis you do. I cannot wait for your follow up to King of the Monsters!!!!
Imho, this is the best freakin’ Godzilla movie I have ever seen. I feel bad that it didn’t live up to a lot of Godzilla fans expectations - I wish they all could have watched through my eyes because I was totally knocked out by it. Just saw it this afternoon and I think I may have to sneak away from work again sometime this week...
I gotta say I absolutely loved it! Yes, it did have a few problems. Like lady phat mentions about constantly cutting to the humans when the fighting was on. But overall it kept me at the edge of my seat the whole time.
I don't understand what "fans" want. I just came back from watching it and i loved every minute! I Even cried when goji came out from the sea and the classic theme started to play. I want to watch it again now on IMAX!
2nd time was better. First time was overwhelming, while 2nd time I could really experience the film. BTW, your review was spot on. I agree with everything you said. Keep y9ur honesty. Love it.
This is the single greatest review for this film I have seen. THANK YOU for being so knowledgeable, passionate, and articulate for something so many people care about. I had a conversation with a guy in the parking lot after and he told me that Legendary hired a no-name new cgi company to do all the animation and that's why it was rough and cut to the humans so much. LOVE YOU GUYS. THANK YOU.
Thank you for your honesty! I rarely subscribe to people, but you earned mine with this vid! I totally identified with your trailer-hype prior as I, too, am a G-Fan of 40+ years - and my reaction to finally seeing the movie was almost spot-on with yours. To me, a true fan is somebody who is not afraid to give constructive negative criticism out of love and desire to make what we love better. There's too many 'fanboys' out there are making crap up like "Negative reviewers wanted more human scenes" and the NONE of the negative reviewers said that at all (Go read the RT reviews yourself, you'll see that) So - thanks for being TRUE fans, ones who want to help our beloved franchise be better in future and NOT hide behind our desire for reality to be something else and pretend it's so!
I agree on many points. I was so sure this would be my new favorite movie easily. I've loved Godzilla my whole life and this movie was a dream come true but when I saw it I was shockingly underwhelmed and I couldn't understand why and when I thought about it I did want to focus on the fights more, to see Godzilla Mothra and Rodan tag teaming Ghidorah and when Godzilla goes Meltdown mode I wanted him to pound on Ghidorah longer but I still really appreciate the movie and I absolutely loved several moments throughout. I'm hoping to see it again soon and hopefully have a better viewing next time.
For me the most badass moment for Godzilla is in the end where all the titans gather around him and you can see the emotion on his face it's just like.. "you're gonna listen to me" and then he roars with all the titans bowing to him. That's badass!
Warner Bros. announced that the first trailer for Godzilla vs. Kong will be released at San Diego Comic-con. You all better lower those expectations quick.
Very happy to hear genuine Godzilla fans look into this movie with carefully thought out points, and I’m glad you two have made a review that is as fair as possible. Personally I love this movie, an absolute love letter to the Showa series in particular. As for me, being from the UK I’ve only seen a few Godzilla films and I can name them off: . Gojira (1954) . King Kong vs Godzilla (1962) . Godzilla vs Hedorah (1973) . The Return of Godzilla (1984. Yes I’m using the Japanese release year cause the American version is a joke) . Godzilla vs King Ghidorah (1991) . Godzilla (1998).... unfortunately... . Godzilla (2014) . Shin Godzilla (2016) Now all these films as well as researching the shit out of the others made me a fan and with this, I honestly loved this film. It felt like a nice throwback to the Showa films in particular. Especially with Godzilla’s roar and how this film felt like a subtle remake of Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster (1964). I will agree that the trailers built up WAY too much hype but I was still satisfied and to be honest, I enjoyed the 50/50 human and Kaiju screentime. The soundtrack was just beautiful, especially Mothra’s theme, she was the highlight in my opinion considering we didn’t see very much of her unfortunately. Again, I respect your opinions as a fellow Godzilla and your points are very good and well thought out. Long live the King!
I wonder if cutting back to the humans during the big fights is more of a budget problem and that's there way of saving money but making it feel like the fights are longer.
good video. I am from Mexico City. And today will be the 4th time I'm going to the cinema to see Godzilla the King of Monsters. I'm a fan and I'm very excited to see your video. Enjoy it ... regards ... Long live the King
I think what we as Godzilla fans need is not just someone who is a Godzilla fan to make these films. But someone who is a fan of classic martial arts film and a pro wrestling fan. So they can understand that a well choreographed fight can tell a beautiful story. Still love the movie. But you're right. There could've been so much more.
Thanks, LPB! No one seemed to notice Mothra's chirp coming out of Godzilla. Dougherty mentioned that the original cut was over 3 hours. I hope we get that on a home release...if it's more kaiju development.
Everytime a monster appears on screen, the movie gets better. I fucking love this movie, and it's everything that I wanted from a Godzilla movie. I don't even need Kong VS Godzilla now because I think I'm very satisfied with it. Why don't I ask more from Godzilla? Because this is a great place to end it (might be not a better ending in the movie itself) but In the context of the whole Godzilla series. And I don't want to be underwhelmed with the later movies. Unless they got the original creators and the monsters got more screen time (not too many jump-cuts into a human characters) Spoilers: Rest in peace, Serizawa. (The best characters throughout the whole movie, and franchise). My heart sank when they do that Serizawa scene in this movie.
The last 20 mins. of this review pretty much sums up my exact feelings when i came out of the movie. I was pissed because i felt that they focused to much in the human aspect instead of the monster fights. I came out hating the Russell family with a passion because of the over importance they get in the whole movie. I have never felt that way over any human character in a Godzilla movie EVER. This movie could've been an easy 10/10 and they fucked it up with the over exposition of humans. Like you guys said, the movie is still enjoyable and had its moments. The music, the kaiju parts that were shown, the easter eggs, all the nods to previous films....the potential was there and it almost full filled it. To bad it fell short where it mattered. I was worried that they were going to give Kong a W over Godzilla in the upcoming film, now i'm just worried about the movie as a whole. As always, great and awesome review guys.
The only review on TH-cam of this movie that matters! Glad you always give your honest reviews because I felt the same for the most part. Good movie, could be better, high hopes for Godzilla vs. Kong!
I also hate the imbalance of kaiju vs people in these movies. I'm not too knowledgeable about the inside of cinema but part of me thinks it's a budget thing. They can save a few thousand dollars by not having 5 straight minutes of CGI effects & just focus on people in front of a green screen. I don't like it but if that's why, I understand.
I took my 18 year old son to see Godzilla. He said it was better than the 2014 movie. Like most fans, we all agree that the human characters are NOT what we came to see. I DID whisper in my son's ear, that for a moment there during the battles, it got a little Michael Bay... but I ALSO did appreciate and recognize the signature TOHO wide angle, "court side seats" shots. Overall, knowing IT IS a Godzilla movie, WE ENJOYED IT.
I loved this movie the FIRST time I saw it...and loved it even more the SECOND time I saw it! If I didn't despise the theater-going experience so much, I'd have already seen it 2-3 more times.
think about it this way.. American godzilla movies are getting better and better.. 98’ zilla was... pretty shit and 2014 zilla was decent and now 2019 zilla is a lot better.. i can’t wait for 2020 and the future!
It's not gonna happen with boillante. Kotm cost 200 million and 100 million to market it has to make at least 500 million to be an ok success and it only made 50 million in the US and 130 abroad for a global 160 in its 1st weekend so far
@@alexisyusti1639 Like i said I can see *HOW* she could be brought into the monster verse I know that its not 100% guaranteed this is just speculation.
I understood the Easter egg when I saw the plant life scene in SF but It's not going to happen bc there's not enough fan base in the US for Godzilla and kotm is already looking like a flop bc of the cut scenes and an hr and a half of human drama. If I want to see human drama I'll see general hospital or Legends of the fall.
Check out the 1967 Son of Godzilla movie they have plenty of moments during Godzilla fights where they cut back to the humans plenty of times just to clarify that its nothing new in a Godzilla flick
It def had its flaws, but I really enjoyed it and felt like the monsters got the respect and love they deserved from an American version
Same they stayed so true to the original Godzilla movies.

Can you please send me the link to that?
That sounds adorable.
@@anonymousgoblin792 It is. It was in their first trailer reaction to Godzilla King of the Monsters: th-cam.com/video/XSxvFuYM7gY/w-d-xo.html
Lady Phat Blood shows it at 13:19
savagenature1 i almost cried in that scene tbh
Lady Phat Blood and I are in complete agreement! I disliked that they cut so often to the puny humans during the Kaiju fights. Other than that, solid Godzilla flick!
Just saw the movie. And they aren’t nearly as bad as people say they are. Hell at least it’s not like in 2014. (Meaning not as bad)
@@anonymousgoblin792 No, they aren't as bad. More watchable for sure. Only problem is that they cut to them and their problems way too much during the fights and I could NOT care less if any of them died.
TheEsoteric Even then to me the cuts were short.
And hell some of them when they do cut still show parts of the monster action.
The crowd I was with went ape shit, clapped soo loud when the godzilla logo credit rolled.I was in shock. 5 out of 5 for me but i agree with you both.

Ghidorah growing his head back was the HOLY SHIT moment for me
Also Burning Godzilla
savagenature1 - I DID NOT expect that they would make Ghidorah an alien in this universe. Holy shit was that a pleasant surprise!

@MasterOnion North Most definitely. Godzilla underwater was Eerie as Hell. Made me think of those moments when you see a Great White swimming towards divers in a shark cage... Only Godzilla is So Much Bigger
Considering they lured Rodan to Ghidorah, I can't help but wonder if Rodan thought "Oh Shit!" when he collided with Ghidorah :P
I mean, he submitted to Ghidorah for a reason and probably wouldn't have wanted to fight him to begin with
I agree! No Godzilla fan watches the movie to see a human plot. Humans are expendable
Yes, I'm trying to ignore the humans part, but I can't. Cuz the humans part is a big plot in this movie, and their stupidity ruins the whole movie.
Thanks!! I fucking hated those humans surviving everything and all the cut aways to those idiot actors
@@qirenlu8 The humans were rather enjoyable in this movie.
Mostly. I'm fine. Really.
@theguyonthecouch that is sooooo correct lol her upper body strength is off the charts lol strongest "regular" human in the MCU lol
I can agree with that
Can you let us know where you heard that interview? I really dug this movie and I'm curious about the pre-production process and the things they had to compromise on.

I completely agree with her, this is about as best as were going to get, and it’s a little upsetting.

Me, my wife, and son went and saw it Saturday night and loved it. I though it is the closest an American Godzilla film could come to being a Japanese Godzilla film.
Won't lie i was disappointed and happy when i heard a lil kid in the theaters with me I'm like this kid is gonna be hype af like I'm 17 but when I'm older and be a dad I'm gonna be 😞 oh god gotta take a kid to a movie about huge monsters good luck
i totally agree
@@wvmountaineer80 😅👌
Totally agree about your first major issue with the movie, and you helped me further identify what bothered me about it. Despite a plot taken straight out of a Showa era film, the American style just doesn't vibe with it. The Japanese films have the characters sit back and take in the battles, but the American films insist on throwing the human characters into the frey. It takes the focus away from the kaiju.
Can't wait for your review Up From The Depths! Pleasantly surprised to see you on this awesome channel
Haven't seen it yet but can't wait until I do
My wife and I were a little let down on the first showing, it was TONS BETTER on the second viewing.
I mean it!!!
the Mothra screech I almost immediately picked up on 1st view.
RoguePlanet you can also see Mothra’s wings in the blast!
Film Narc Yeah, we saw that too! My wife caught it on the third viewing.
You also see Mothra in the blast if you look closely enough.
i noticed that was pretty awesome
The CG to make these movies cost a shit ton. It's not that they're ashamed to have them just straight fight for 5 minutes, even with the big budget they could never afford that.
I'm with you guys 100% i enjoyed the film but those cut away from the fights got really irritating. Hopefully they'll get it right with Godzilla vs kong
Love the movie too. And yes the cut way is irritating just like 2014 but at least it's not we keep focusing on humans too much but still wish just those fight scenes to be focused instead making it in the background.
The cutting away is annoying but I thought they did a better job this time around in KOTM than 2014.
I'll say this, at least the fights were memorable and meaningful since it's the big 4
@@carnationX2 oh yeah this movie has an amazing fight scenes...just wish that long though.

It’s a global audience and they could have stayed with the stars of the movie which is the Godzilla and the Kaiju crew.
gdog0924 apparently there’s a 3 hour version that the director has, so I wonder if that would fix some of the action
D core tthat depends on how well these two movies do. If they are big box office draws. I guarantee you they will make more.

Did you guys see the shot where they armed the cannons when Godzilla was approaching the underwater base? The screen said Maser Cannons online. I lost it.
AL THE FANS SHOULD GO SEE IT 3 OR 4 TIMES AND MAYBE WE CAn save it?
This was a fantastic love letter to old school Godzilla. Everybody complains about the story and the acting but who goes to see it for that? Besides the originals were terrible on both counts ALWAYS and they still keep us coming back for more. Long live the King!
The movie was fantastic, the plot and characters were fully consistent with Godzilla mythos, it was straight-up fan service, honored so much of the past, and set up a great future - absolutely loved it!
I’m calling it now Godzilla vs King Kong will end up being like BvS and be Godzilla and Kong vs Mecha Ghidorah
I thought so too
Well not exactly.
Did you guys know, the original UNCUT version of Godzilla King Of The Monsters 2019 was supposedly 3 hours long?
ND7652 YUSSS
Lady Phat Blood mentioned something about somebody at WB and/or Legendary "pussed-out" and considered the "human element" is more important in this film...which got me thinking:
As far as I am aware, the director of KOTM Mike Dougherty is a fan of the Big G.
I didn’t even feel they were cutting away from fights to humans. I just enjoyed a fun movie start to finish
🐨Godzilla's kingdom was cool especially the statues that displayed his head on them, awesome!😉👍🐨
Great review guys, and there is no need to apologize! I totally agree with your observations on the way the US can't focus on fighting as a storyline. Great review and thanks for always being so straightforward. You guys rock, stay awesome!
Umm...the Japanese films never much did either. Have you even WATCHED any TOHO films before 2000?

My analogy:
Godzilla 2014: “1 minute monster fights, 5 minutes humans, repeat”
Godzilla 2019: “15+ seconds of Monster fights, 1 minute of humans, repeat”
Why don't you actually work it out before making up ake numbers?
The Rodan entry scene is unbelievable!!!
Rodan absolutely stole this movie with his entry scene…🔥
This was a solid Godzilla flick. And I totally agree with Lady Phat Blood. They did cut to the humans a little bit too much. But I understood the plot like she said classic Toho move. And I did enjoy seeing a little bit of that Toho goofiness when Mothra rammed Gihadora heads into the building then Godzilla rams him through the building. Love the fact that they used the original score from 1954. And I love go go Godzilla. Awesome reaction guys I'm definitely subscribing to your channel.
If you pay attention to Godzillas first nuclear pulse at the end battle, you can also see mothra in the pulse itself
It seems they are gradually understanding that the monsters are the main attraction not the humans. The end credit scene gives me hope that they can redeem themselves and let kong vs Godzilla brawl the fuck out and any other monsters 😉
Also Godzilla must be aYankee fan Fenway Park was demolished!

It's a Mayweather Pacquiao thing. Gamera is a different studio and they don't want to have gamera lose that's why it hasn't been done

I loved the film but it was over hyped by them epic trailers. The fights were decent and the easter eggs are clear to see. Hope it dose good but not looking that way. Thanks for another honest review am just happy we got another American Godzilla film made. Love your channel keep up the good work
It’s quite possible the constant cutting to humans is a studio thing more so than a director thing.
Exactly!!
I live about an hour away from Boston, so my dad's only gripe when we saw the movie was, and I quote: "Why'd they have to do that to Fenway, man?!"

I actually agree with her I felt the same way but still this was so epic
This is my new favorite Godzilla movie.
I loved it and I am very grateful because thanks for the movie I finally got my brother to really like the whole godzilla franchise
I rarely don’t like to rewatch movies in theaters. The 2014 I saw at least 4 times. This one I really wanna go rewatch in theaters
I gotta say I absolutely loved it! Yes, it did have a few problems. Like lady phat mentions about constantly cutting to the humans when the fighting was on. But overall it kept me at the edge of my seat the whole time.
This is the only review that matters to me and worth listening to...
I don't understand what "fans" want. I just came back from watching it and i loved every minute! I Even cried when goji came out from the sea and the classic theme started to play. I want to watch it again now on IMAX!

I already lowered my expectations 4 kk vs gz. Freakin cut aways to humans again. I was soooo hyped. Hw doesn't deserve kaiju movies
Very happy to hear genuine Godzilla fans look into this movie with carefully thought out points, and I’m glad you two have made a review that is as fair as possible. Personally I love this movie, an absolute love letter to the Showa series in particular.
As for me, being from the UK I’ve only seen a few Godzilla films and I can name them off:
. Gojira (1954)
. King Kong vs Godzilla (1962)
. Godzilla vs Hedorah (1973)
. The Return of Godzilla (1984. Yes I’m using the Japanese release year cause the American version is a joke)
. Godzilla vs King Ghidorah (1991)
. Godzilla (1998).... unfortunately...
. Godzilla (2014)
. Shin Godzilla (2016)
Now all these films as well as researching the shit out of the others made me a fan and with this, I honestly loved this film.
Omg a full extended director's cut would be awesome
Why would I watch more dialogue about a monster movie for 3 hrs
@surfitlive ah, then nevermind.
Unless they got the original creators and the monsters got more screen time (not too many jump-cuts into a human characters)
Spoilers:
Rest in peace, Serizawa. (The best characters throughout the whole movie, and franchise). My heart sank when they do that Serizawa scene in this movie.
I went to see giant monsters fighting each other in a blood bath. I was not disappointed
Best Godzilla Movie ever
And sorry Phat Samurai Guy, this Godzilla's not built for punching. haha
With all the focus on the plant life in this movie. I can definitely see how they can bring biollante into the monster verse.
I wasn't crazy about the dad either.
Lawson Bright why would u be?
