This is excellent. Very well explained. I was thinking about trying charcoal. I enjoy using graphite pencils. I'm sure I would enjoy charcoal too. Wolf turned out amazing.

I love that drawing (the wolf) using charcol pencil.
What kind of paper you recomend for this pencils.
And when you draw animals whit no hair, like a bulldog that the hair it's very short, what you recomend to do it. I really would like your advise. I'm not a proffesional drawing, but I love to draw. So I Will appreciate it your advise. Thanks.
I prefer thicker paper that's neither too rough nor too smooth. When drawing shorter fur don't try to draw individual hairs just shade and let the pencil work for you by producing a texture that looks like short fur.

When you are finished with your charcoal sketch ... with what do you finish it off with to not let it smudge?
I spray it with a lot of fixative. I usually used Koh-i-Noor or Conte.

Easy with woodless charcoal pencils. They don't break often.

Yeah, I always spray charcoal with lots of fixative.

I used woodless charcoal pencils, and for the highlights I used an eraser in a pencil.
It's fake, I just see black and white photo. 😉

Are you starting from free hand drawing or is it lightly sketched/traced before you begin?
With human portraits I prefer to trace most of the time, with animals and landscape usually freehand. No need for great precision.

it's not very fast. very fast would be if I compressed it all in a two minute video. full-length videos are on my patreon.

@@robertjwilliams3532 never. but my drawing sessions are usually no longer than 15 min at a time, often less. I like to make a lot of breaks.

I use a cheap local brand 190 gsm smooth.
From where we can by these woodless charcoal and vine charcol pencils
Just google them and order online wherever it's cheap.
