Fabulous wondrous remarkable little things those drones, the wonders of modern technology, must get myself one one day!!! And, after watching your /that there footage, must come and see the wonders of Stanton Park and that part of Wilts for myself one day too!. "England, this green and pleasant land".!!! P.S. Im half jock like you!!! Thanks Sandy mate.
Great views Sandy, I've only ever seen Stanton Park once,I tend to forget it's there. You're definitely a lot braver than I am. I'm terrified about flying over anything but open ground, just in case it falls out of the sky as the phantoms have been known to do :) I was just saying the other day, TH-cam Videos really need more fungi interludes haha!
Thanks Rick, I have heard of them falling out of the sky. A lot of the crashes could be down to operator error perhaps flying beyond battery capabilities and I believe also applying minimum throttle has caused motors to shut down whilst the craft is still airbourne. To get the best shots though there is always going to be an element of risk and no doubt my copter will need a rebuild every so often, but as I built it in the first place it should be fairly simple to fix as and when the time comes. Happy landings Sandy
I understand the Phantoms seem to have a lot of battery errors where they suddenly die. There are numerous videos on YT about it. Also, if you draw the two joysticks down and inward in flight, the motors cut out - seen several videos where that happens too. My main worries about flying though are about injuring others or damaging property and opening myself to lawsuits that could be potentially bankrupting. The law is in a state of flux about these things at the moment, and there are a lot of "grey areas", but we estimate that it's only a matter of time before the CAA will bring in legislation to curb their use, as drones are currently classed as unmanned surveilence platforms. I know of no insurer who will touch these from a hobbyist perspective, only from professional use, but you currently need a pilots license to legally use them professionally :o(
Just amazing, its incredible the views of the world that we have access to these days. Some very brave flying amongst the trees! I really like the shots of climbing individual trees like the oak one here.... Something very strange about seeing up and over a great big tree.
Terrific video Sandy - honestly the best copter video I've seen. Mixing your airborne shots with those from Chris on the ground was an inspired idea. Top editing too. Forget the arches on the netball court - your flying under the overhanging branches on the ash tree and others was a demonstration of skill and confidence. You are now officially an Advanced Treetop Flyer. Start it up again man! Noel
Hi Noel, Is there a badge that comes with the accolade of Advanced Treetop flyer? If so I want one. It has been started up.. I only hope it doesn't stop too quickly. Haa Sandy
Very nice Sandy, I always wanted a guided tour of jolly old England, I guess this will have to do. I think I saw Harry Potter's house in there somewhere:) Cheers my friend, John
Looks good Sandy. If I were you, I'd buy a GPS tracker for this in case you ever lost it. They're cheap on E-bay, and could save you several hundred pounds worth of Quadcopter if it ever flew away, as it can text you it's exact position! Convert to FPV too, it makes it even more fun!
Hi Sandy. i got your link from scudo camper, Glad i did to i have rally enjoyed your vids. i have just been watching your quad copter vids, Really intrested in That copter you have got mate. It,s a brilliant bit of kit. I would appreciate a little more detail on it and a few price guidelines would be good to sandy if possible. Sorry to be nosey sandy but i am really intrested in aquiering one of these, My budget is a bit tight but i would really like to know what it would cost me to build this quadcopter plus camra gear and gimmble. Anyway if this is asking to much no probs at all mate, I have still got the delight of wathing your vids. i really enjoyed following you on your 84 mile walk. wow 84 miles in blumin december, you must have the heart of a lion mate....I deffinatly would not be sleeping out until the warmer months. Anyway good on yer sandy, And here,s wishing you good luck and good health for you and your future projects and adventures. And i,ll be keeping mme eyes peeled for your new vids. Cheers mate.......Bri
Thanks Bri, Check out Mationbille models on youtube, I bought my kit from him. He will be better suited to answer your questions as he knows all the current prices. My copter is the DJI flame wheel F450
Expertly done Sandy and so brave, over trees is on thing but over water. Do you mind if I ask, how do you download and edit your footage from the sj4000? Fantastic flying.cracking movie, epic
LOL I was completely absorbed. This is the coolest thing, to be able to check out things like you did from the sky. What is the distance you can get away from the chopper before you lose connection with it? I was so afraid you were going to get wet in the lake and the swans never batted an eye to it. lol Great vid.
Great stuff sandy enjoyed this video mate you certanly got the handle on quad i meen fingers LoLo See you soon all being well saturday afternoon stop with you till the evening ring later Regards Marty
Was this sending a live feed down to a monitor on the ground as it was being flown? Once it's out of sight it'd be hard to fly without it surely? Great footage, as much as I love getting back to basics with nature, sometimes modern technology really is fantastic.
Nice piece of gear, and some great video! I'm curious, does this kit have a built in set of gyros that give it all the stability? I know the quads are more stable based on their design, but it seems like there may be some added hardware that helps keep things even more camera-friendly.
Hi Lofty, Quads are inherently UNSTABLE. All muti rotor craft are completely unstable and will not fly without the addition of accelerometers, gyros speed contrllers etc which can detect in an instant when the craft needs levelling and the Flight controller makes the slight adjustments continually to keep the craft level, apart from thjat all other inputs are from me with yaw, pitch and roll all thrown into the equation. Quads are cool
Ah - I guess I attributed the perception of stability in the videos I've seen to counter-forces from having four rotors seemingly in-sync. I should've known though that increased maneuverability would equal decreases in stability. Thanks for the info, and I look forward to more nice shots! ~Lofty
Don't forget to oil your motors after 3/4 flights Sandy just a drop, top and bottom, I use GT85, great video cant wait to see your next one, hopefully using a gimbal... 73's... Kevin.
To oil or not is the question. My research leads me to believe that it is ineffective and may even do harm. The bearings of brushless motors come prepacked with grease and sealed. I will just fly the quad and check the motors before every flight. Replacement bearings are cheap, even the motors are too. Also where does all the oil go to? Into the windings and other places where it can attract dust and grit and cause even more harm possibly? Thanks for your advice all the same. 73 Sandy
Wiltshire Man As you say Sandy motor/bearings are cheap £14 or so .. I ve not had a build up of dirt yet, I do blow them out with air,and never seen a pre pack motor with grease, the amount of oil I use is very very little on the end of a screwdriver, the oil is so thin and finds its way between the bearing and motor shaft, on the bottom part of my motors is a serclip with nylon spacers which again get a very very small amount of GT85, again Sandy many regards Kevin 73
Just seen barking badgers video of this as well. You two would have to upload these right before I get paid wouldn't you! Great footage though, thanks for sharing.
You may want to white balance your camera as seems very yellow in places. Also you can run the picture though software to reduce the vibration and help with the fisheye effect. Looking good though mate
Hi Tom, I had the white balance set to daylight but have now altered it to "Auto". As for software I only have a lap top. I think I need a more powerful computer. Sandy
Wonderful flying! You have put your copter into limits so nicely under those trees and over swinging paths!
It's all down to practice Osmo. First I practiced many flights with a small machine so now the flying is easy
Wiltshire Man That machine looks so stable and easy to move around. Practice makes the champ!
superb Sandy - your flying skills are brilliant so quickly - well done on building this kit yourself too. Great video footage
Thankyou David, having built it my self I will find it easy to repair should the day come when it crashes
Fabulous wondrous remarkable little things those drones, the wonders of modern technology, must get myself one one day!!!

Seeing from a different perspective is wonderous, I agree but it takes a brave man to do a leap of faith from a high spot!
Nice Sandy!! Like the new videography toy :)
Excellent M8! I am really liking this quadcopter vids! Thanks for sharing ATB Paul
Thanks Paul for watching
Sandy
Awesome shots, Sandy. Professional level areal photography~ Wow, is all I can say. Peace, Ken
I need to white balance the camera and soon will have a proper gimbal for stable footage, Thanks Ken and Peace man

Excellent mate just perfect
Thanks Tom glad you liked the video.

impressive Sandy ! very impressive :) You'll have to do a list of all the gear, and where to get it all from. atb
Super bardzo mi się podobało to co robisz ,fajne hobby.
great shots, it certainly acends fast
Hi Garry,
I have read that the ascent rate is 13 feet per second but somehow I think it is a lot quicker than that?
Sandy

It's a cool thing isn't it Louise. The range is 1KM in open country and if connection is lost it will fly back to the take off point.
Sandy
Wiltshire Man Next thing for you... a maned mini chopper!! lol
Great stuff sandy enjoyed this video mate you certanly got the handle on quad i meen fingers LoLo See you soon all being well saturday afternoon stop with you till the evening ring later Regards Marty
Thanks Marty,
I am loving filming from the quad. Great to chat on the phone today. Have a great holiday and see you soon.
