Time flies doesn't it? To think, it's already been 9 months since the last time I uploaded a PvP video. I'm guessing you already know this by now, but I ended up quitting BDO soon after I published "Tergiversation", which is why I been gone.
I never meant to just disappear without notice. The footage in this video was captured between October to December last year, and this video was supposed to have been published shortly thereafter. But BDO had been such a huge source of frustration for me back then, that I simply wanted nothing to do with the game anymore. And even though I intended to finish this video, every time I thought about it, I just ended up pushing it back another day, further and further..
With the return of seasons, I spontaneously decided to make a seasonal ninja, and did some livestreams on twitch. And for the first time in a while, I enjoyed BDO again. That was what gave me the motivation to finally finish this video. I know the footage is outdated, I know this isn't the seasonal montage some of you have hoped for, but I don't like leaving projects undone. They say it's better late than never - hopefully it's true in this case too.
I really did have fun PvPing again on the seasonal server though - but as much as I would like to take that sentiment and return to the main servers, the same problems that drove me to quit BDO in the first place still keeps me away today: the gear, the content, and the meta.
    1. The thing is, I am a PvP player more than I am a MMO player. As much as I enjoy the open world PvP experience that BDO offers, I cannot say the same when it comes to PvE. All I ever wanted was to just be competitive in PvP. To reach a gear score where I can fight everyone on equal gear, and then stop worrying about PvE altogether. But that gear score doesn't exist, because BDO doesn't let you stop gearing. Every AP and DP you get is just as important as the AP and DP before it. You never reach a point of diminishing returns where you can start dialing back on PvE and focus on PvP. If you are 550 GS you'll struggle when everyone else gets 600 GS. But once you get 600 GS you'll struggle just as much when others get 650 GS. You always have to keep gearing to stay in the competition; you need to keep moving just to stay still. I know there are many people who enjoys the grind, and to them, this system probably works great. But I'm just not one of them.
    2. People often meme about Arsha being a PvE server, but if you think about it, what PvP content can we realistically do to progress our gear? RBF? Node War? Siege? Nothing really comes close to the amount of money you make from PvE. And with how much difference gear makes in this game, it's no wonder why people rather ignore PvP as much as possible in order to grind. It's no wonder why I find less and less PvP on Arsha, and had to resort to playing in RBF. PvP is just a means to an end. The only real reason to PvP is so that you can get back to PvE.
    3. And the worst part is, even if gear wasn't a problem, and we had better content than RBF, I'm still not sure I'd want to play in the meta that BDO is moving towards. To me, the best part about BDO had always been about outplaying people with CCs, and successfully pulling off a combo. Yet, more and more I feel that part of BDO is being pushed aside in favor of simple damage trading. I remember back when I first played this game, you needed 2 good CCs to kill anyone in a combo. But now, people can often kill each other without landing any CCs at all. You used to have iframe, FG, and SA to counter CCs. But now damage breaks FG, damage kills through SA, and damage even gets past iframes with how short they last. So we are left again with just more PvE, getting more gear in order to survive.
As much as people praise BDO for being different from MMOs such as WoW - for not rendering your old gear obsolete with new content - I sort of wish it did. I'd much rather just spend maybe a week or two getting geared up, and the rest of the time doing PvP, as opposed to grinding away every day. And maybe that's why I enjoyed playing on seasonal so much, because BDO seasons is exactly that - a place where you can just get max gear and fight. The first few days of seasonal has been some of the most fun I had, but sadly, most people don't play seasonal. And why would they? After all, if you play the main servers, you don't have time to PvP. This game's real content is PvE.
So as I've said on stream, I don't suppose I would return to BDO any time soon. But maybe I will visit every season. Maybe I will come back for ranked 1v1. Or maybe, I could just move on.
But nevertheless, I still hope you enjoy this video!

Hi everyone, so as you may know I ended up quitting BDO in December of 2020. I came back recently and did some livestream of the seasonal servers, but the footage in this video is from before I quit - not from the seasonal PvP. I meant to finish this video back in 2020, but I kept procrastinating until now, sorry. I know it's about 7 months out of date, but better late than never, I hope.

In the silence I can see,
That you and I will never be,
    You can't be my everything,
Time away won't change a thing.
In the silence I've been waiting to feel free...

You just reminded me why i got into this game with your description. oh, how i've strayed from that path and become a grinder because i can't do pvp without gear.

From all the mmos that are coming out, none of them are exactly as exciting or as fast as bdo pvp is. Nevertheless, are you looking to play any of them?

Lost Ark looked pretty good to me when I played the RU version a while back. I'm especially interested in how it is said to have gear equalized 3v3 arena, with rankings. Would really appreciate not having to do a bunch of PvE again. I didn't play New World, but the combat looked a bit scuffed when I watched others play it on Twitch. But the game is supposed to be PvP oriented, so I like the sound of that. I may or may not try it depending on the release schedule of New World vs Lost Ark. I also tried Swords of Legends Online. I appreciated that you could farm gear from PvP, but the combat isn't really all that exciting. I probably won't play it long term. However, another game that caught my eyes is Naraka: Bladepoint. It's not exactly an MMORPG, but the controls feel similar to BDO. I enjoyed it quite a bit in the beta, so I'll probably start playing that after it releases this week.

I played Ninja for about 2 years. Too much grind is a pretty good summary, but I go into a bit more detail in this video's description and on a video I made on my other channel: th-cam.com/video/qSLQd673nBI/w-d-xo.html

Definitely is the right decision to move on from BDO it’s an endless grind and honestly not healthy for the health lol. When I quit BDO I’ve felt so much better grinding Apex, or any other game.
