Everyone said Pupkin's name wrong throughout the film. Then, the final shot is nothing but his name being said over and over - this leads me to believe this final shot was another wishful daydream of Pupkin.
I got the impression it's very similar to his own fantasies on purpose, not to imply this is one of them, but to imply that this lunatic actually made them come true
I do believe that the ending was a daydream but not because of this reason. Ms. Long, Jerry's secretary said his name properly quite a lot of times,. His introduction to his show was very odd especially the voice announcer.
La fama es en sí misma una ilusión pasajera. Así que da un poco lo mismo si es imaginación de Rupert o no. Creo que ese es un posible mensaje de la película.
1) No one only gets 2yrs in jail for kidnapping. 2) Its 1982 - no internet, iphones, cable tv. Most only had 7 channels, so people would forget who he was after a month. 3) Even the cops said they would arrest whoever wrote his horrible jokes. 4)Just like many sitting in jail right now, he's a King in his own mind. Movie proves guys with huge egos are more dangerous than guys with low self esteem.
@@Dinosreviews The versions I find when I look for the song are either an unreleased version with entirely different instrumentation or just the minute or so of audio ripped right from the ending of the film. Thats not what I'm looking for. What I want is a song that is just the full isolated ending track with all the normal instrumentation here but without all the movie sound effects. As of now that isn't available anywhere.

@@sp-yj5wrYeah I believe he got his one night of being a king and that's it. Maybe even the book deals he got were a delusion but that does seem more plausible as people in prison have written and published books, and especially if you pull a stunt as crazy as he did on a household name comedian, I'm sure a lot of people would want to read about what was in his mind. Him getting his own show is a clear delusion though without a doubt.
Everyone talks about how he is in jail, however he has a serious mental illness that led to violence. He would not be welcomed back to anything. The background is all gray and white with the bar shadows. The spotlight like from a guard tower and the almost orange outfit. He would not have publicists or have been able to write a book and he’s either in jail or an asylum.
Yeah look at how he is holding his hands. Like he's handcuffed > and even if it is real, its clear that the fame has as so sought has become like a jail
Yeah but even then it's not concrete enough. Many backgrounds have silver curtains which create a darker shade when the light moves. It's confusing on purpose for sure. I think he did get the book deal but getting his own show I think is a delusion
Do you remember the scene where he is talking to the wall? Black and white. Do you remember the Liza Minelli and Jerry Langford cutouts? Black and white. The end scene shows the black and white now behind him because he is now in REALITY.
100%. No way a kidnaper with a bad sense of humor would make a career. You can also see that his introduction at the end was unrealistic/dream like with constant repeating of his name.

@@sp-yj5wrto be fair he would probably get famous and remembered for the kidnapp too. But the guy who kiled john lennon got famous n stayed in jail long time but there is lot of corruption nowadays and justice system sucks. I wish that ending song before the cut to black was available to listen to somewhere. Its a real earworm.
yeah for real, i spent years looking for it to no avail

Right? It really does burrow into your brain.
an instant standout for me, so poignant
I don’t care in the movie I watched I chose to believe he actually won and that was him 😤
The more I watch this the more I realize it’s another fantasy.
Go back and watch the montage before the end scene. It provess it's not a daydream.
I really Cried ... But I see that it's really true that he become a comedian , That's without a doubt the best Movien I've seen 😭😭😭
True, it's a fantasy everyone has at least at one point in life
It could just be in his head, at least that’s how my friend and I thought of it.

Then you don't know a thing about show business
It's real. Go back and watch the montage prior to the end scene. That is the evidence. Look at the news articles.
Look at the curtains starting 1:35 he's clearly behind bars- but we dont see it, until you do....

@@omar-hy3thalso the amount of times his name is announced makes it seem like a guard is shouting him out of his cell in his daydream
Also his bright red suit could be a prison jump suit and the way he has his hands together like they are hand cuffed

"WONDERFUL!"
The 2nd best Scorsese film,in my opinion, after Goodfellas.
Very underrated
No, Second best is Taxi Driver

Better than Goodfellas

Yes
Maybe yes. Maybe no.
