Interesting set I had not seen yet. Nice that the Bulin gas burner fits. I use my Bulin in the Firefox Nano and it works great. One word of caution though, gas stoves like the BSR, with the gas canister included inside the stove can cause them to explode, unlike the Bulin with the canister on the exterior. Gas canisters have also been known to explode if too confined by a windscreen so please use caution. I would not recommend using the canister stoves inside this set. Thanks for the review, I look forward to watching your follow up videos.
Thanks, good point, I didn't think about the canisters overheating. The cook set is a pretty tight space. I used a aluminum foil wind screen on my GAZ S200 for years without issue but then the windscreen I used was 2 to 3 inches from the stove and I always has a 3 inch opening too.
Yep .. the Cylinder possibly overheating is something some don't consider. Even my Trangia Alcohol Burner, Simmer Ring or not, tends to switch on the Afterburner if too confined.
I’d be interested in boil tests. The only issue I see with some of these original design Chinese stoves is that they don’t seem to get that the upper windscreen should be solid, at least where the flame is. I’m sure this was intended to allow easier manipulation of the simmer ring.
I just posted the boil test video. th-cam.com/video/PjeC51gk8UI/w-d-xo.html I should have the video comparing boil times between the Cook set with its 2" 5/16 distance to the pot and an Esbit pot stand with its 1: 3/16 distance up later today. Spoiler, about the same. :-)
Loving the content as always. Question. Do you find using those boiling pots that when you boil water it tastes stale? Have a new Alocs on a meths burner and my tea tasted pretty stale 😂
No, these days I'm drinking coffee, dark roast black, so I'm sure that would override any off tastes to the water. Tea on the other hand, I would notice but I haven't used any of my new kits for tea. For many years I carried a Trangia kettle that I used only to boil water, I didn't want coffee or previous meals taint my tea 🙂 So far I've only boiled water in my new kits.
The Trangia kettles are great, I have both a 25 & 27. The 27 won't work because it seats into the top of the pot stand so there won't be satisfactory heat flow around it, all of the heat/flames will have to exit the cutout. You could always use the pot lid which holds 12oz to boil water and make a lid out of aluminum foil, tin can top or a lid from another pot.
I don't see the 'point?' in trying to rig it up for 'gas' just put the pot directly on the gas stove, eliminating the need for alocs kit entirely. in other words, just use it for what it was designed for, alcohol.
A lot of people like to play around and adapt cook kits so I just explored possibilities. For me, I just use the alcohol burner. Its all moot anyway since they don't make that kit anymore.🙂
I would think so, the opening is big enough to feed sticks into. I'm not sure how the aluminum would hold up over time but it is thick and hard so it might be ok. You would need to take a can lid with vent holes punched in it to cover the alcohol burner hole. It would also be a good idea to have a piece of aluminum foil to place under the kit as an ash pan.
Nice video.. i have ALOCS CW-C05 and TRANGIA 25 - 4UL the best item's
Cool thanks mate

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I made a coffee and it was fine. Thinking of getting the 27 Trangia kettle but not sure if that fits on the alocs.

If one runs out of gas can you burn twigs

Maybe, one other option is you can dig a shallow hole for the canister?
Yep that would work.
