When you drench the soil with liquid fertiliser/ compost, how much would you apply? I think I am taking the term drench literally and thinking there needs to be heavy applications to fully saturate the soil. But perhaps just drench on the top soil is enough?

I apply it as if I am watering my plants, to the point of liquid showing up at the bottom.
