  • This was our last hunt of the year for 2019. We were invited to hunt with PineBeltRelics on New Years Eve. They kicked our butts again with the arrowheads but we managed to find something we have never found before. Please don't miss this!

    That ear spoil was incredible. I had no idea that the Natives even used such a critter. I love pieces like that that paint a clearer image of those who came before. Great video as usual!

      It is an amazing artifact to be sure! We hope to find out more about it at an artifact show next month. Not sure what period it's from but native Americans have been wearing jewelry for over 12,000 years. I'm thinking more late Archaic to Woodland myself. I'm like you it just adds an extra layer of fascination to these peoples. Thanks. We appreciate the compliment. GL&HH

    I do believe that little clay piece that you thought could be an earring is actually a clay piece that they'd use to attach two clay figures together. Its a technique that has been done for thousands of years dating as far back as the maya. Tribes would use mostly bone for jewelry, as things like clay can cause infection.

But you know, I have to admit that I love the occasional "ugly" points that you find; as an amateur knapper myself, they give me some hope! Mine are getting better, but flint is still such a pain-- obsidian is so much easier to work! My flint points are pretty awful right now; I'll get there, though. Thanks for the great video! Looks like you guys have a lot of fun and pull out some amazing relics to boot! I used to find them in the creeks and on top of the ground in Ark. as a child about 6-8 years old, but then we moved to Houston area and I've been here ever since. There's no rocks in this soil to make arrow heads but I have found crude pottery shards and bone fragments around the bays from the Karankawa tribe. Don't know how you guys know where to dig but you obviously are onto to something! Keep having fun and praising our Lord! I enjoyed the video.

    Very good description of fire pocked. Sometimes the point would be left in the cooking process, other times they were heat treated and were left too long. As you stated there is a slight possibility there was a forest fire. Most Likely the point was overheated in the heat-treating process and buried to shallow below the fire. Just my take on this. How do yall make yalls sifter do yall just leave it at the site or do yall make it portable?

    • @HeartbreakerRelics
      @HeartbreakerRelics  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the question. It is portable and we probably should do a short bit in a video on it. The legs are 2X2 and are attached with bolts and wing nuts. It is a basic 1X4 board frame with 1/4" hardware cloth supported by 2X4 welded wire underneath that. There is also a 1X1" strip holding the wire in place under the bottom.

      We use a formula when trying to find a new site. Water + high level ground just out of the flood plain = the possibility of artifacts. This isn’t a fool proof formula but it’s a good place to start. Good luck!

    aren't y'all worried about spraying clay artifacts with jets of water?? wouldn't you run the risk of damaging it or it crumbling under the pressure? evrything i have ever found made from earthen materials has never been fired, are things different where y'all come from? i'm from southern oregon and we love our rocks up here too!!

    Me and my buddy do the same.Who ever is workin the sifter gets the artifact unless of course the shovel man spots it before he chucks it into the sifter.My Buddy is better at hunting then I am and has given me a few points as well.Thats what friends are for:-) Also the twisted looking point Y"all found right before the Hillary Clinton point, it was orange in color.Those twisted points I understand were for shootin around corners.
    Our find of the year (by my buddy who was three feet from me) while digging in a sand bar adjacent to a village site in a crik was a whole pottery jar with 54 small bird points in it and over 100 white and purple quahog clam beads (wampum) .The jar was packed full of mud and he would dip it in the crik and shake it up and pour a few more points and beads out every time and we'd both squeal like pigs.I think i was as happy as he was.He had already found two large points and I found a couple bird points three feet from his find and were probably poart of the same cache

      Thanks for watching and for the great comment. Most of the artifacts you see in this video are probably late Archaic to Woodland period. This would put them at about two to five thousand years old.
