You are genius. I had almost 5 years with a dead speedometer and couldn't find any replacement at local junkyards. Replaced all three capacitors and my speedo is working again, except that couldn't find a 6.8uF and put a 10uF. Needle jumps a bit past 100kmh, but will try to find the 6.8uF and see how it goes. When car parked under the sun...started and drived the speedo gauge doesn't work until i turn on the ac and after half hour of driving the gauge works fine... likewise at night with ac and tacho lights on the speedo stops working and comes on again... All other gauges run fine. Pls. Help sorting out the reason...
How do you know that it is the speedometer and not the sensor under the air-intake tubing under the hood. It would be a major overkill to do this if the speedo was okay and it was the sensor not working. Is there a way to check this before taking apart the dash to get to the speedo?

I have corolla 1996 amd it's speedometer needle jumped up and down 80-0, 100-0, 20-0 an then stopped. It all happened when i turned on the ignition and engine was not in start position. After that i drove the car but needle remained at 0. Can someone please guide me if there is problem with sensor or in the meter.

In general, the 6.8 uf is not common any more. You can substitute a 10 uf instead. It's close enough in value to work.

Why not to try replacing the capacitors first. If it still have an issues maybe the rotor of speedometer is dead
