He did. No question. Ask anyone familiar with Balenciaga and Charles James. Ralph Rucci has mentioned it several times himself. Balenciaga once said Charles James was "the world's best and only dressmaker." They had a profound respect for one another. Balenciaga knew his own work was superb, but endlessly praised James and James considered Balenciaga the only designer in the world of equal caliber. Several well-researched fashion texts document this. A simple Google search will reveal as much.
You need to look up the definition of "referential", there's a difference between referencing a silhouette or look but making something different and just making an exact copy of a dress. John just copies exact dresses from Charles James and Cristobal Balenciaga. Look at Dior Haute Couture spring 2007, he copied exact dresses from the Balenciaga archives and just made them in bright colours with over the top embroidery.

He was quoting Balenciaga who said that Charles James was the world's greatest and only true designer.
thank you for sharing this!!!
You all, it's called being "referential" not ripping off... Rarely is there anything "new" in fashion just different...
Hahahaha I need proof that he actually said that, because I deeply doubt it.

Looking at Charles James and Cristobal Balenciaga, it looks like Galliano ripped off a lot of their dresses with over the top colours and embroidery.
