      @TheDealRonaldTrump ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So, the reason you haven’t had to change the neck or body on your guitar for 23 yrs is because Darrel bought a 3D printed Strat body? 🤔
      It’s an odd reason… especially given the fact that 23 years ago… and up until the couple weeks back before he made this video, you didn’t know he was gonna do it.
      You must’ve known ahead of time that he was gonna do this. 😳 Holy hell. 🤯🤯

    • @WyldeStarrTheWexican

      Tonewoods for acoustic guitars matter due to the properties of the fact it's a giant sound chamber & the woods will absorb the sound waves to different degrees - for electric guitars, it doesn't actually matter - tonewoods on electric guitars are a myth - there are no frequency differences between the woods that are ascertainable on waveforms from the output.

    • @brundlefly1942
      @brundlefly1942 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@WyldeStarrTheWexican with electrics the general mass of the guitar can make bit of a difference but other factors like pick ups, their height and relative position to the bridge, strings, set up etc. outweigh the tonal difference the mass makes. Especially when you play with heavy distortion.

    • @martinkrauser4029
      @martinkrauser4029 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WyldeStarrTheWexican woods don't "absorb sound waves" in acoustic instruments. Sound is absorbed by permeable materials like foam, rockwool, or fiberglass. Anything solid is going to reflect sound with only negligible absorption. The wood matters because of resonance. The top plate material is of significant consequence because it's ability to be agitated by the strings to move air is key, the back and sides not really because it's the geometry of the chamber that matters. The thickness in top in sides will typically be adjusted slightly per material by the builder and you can get the same effect from any wood that's hard enough, including laminates.
      So in acoustic guitars the top plate resonates with the strings and the back and sides are there to form an acoustic chamber. Unlike a violin, where the string vibrations are transferred to the back plate directly via a wooden post placed under the bridge so it also resonates with the strings, having a full-solid acoustic guitar will not show a difference to a solid-top only.

    As the new owner of a 3D printer for propmaking and practicality, I'd highly recommend that anyone with any interest in DIY projects to consider one. It still hasn't fully sunk in that I can just...make stuff. Pretty much whatever you can think of, you can go from CAD to a physical piece in a couple of hours. And not just for little desk toys and knick-knacks-get yourself a nice machine and you can print in carbon fiber nylon, which a lot of people are using to replace aluminum parts that would be too costly or complicated to machine. I've definitely been bitten by the maker bug and I'm 100% here for it.

    Electric guitars require precision, stability and rigidity in their construction. I honestly don’t think it matters what they are made of as long as those requirements are met. “Tonewoods” are a myth. Frets, strings, pickups, tuning machines, bridges, saddles and nuts. If those work perfectly, so will your guitar. Historically, wood has been the best, cheapest and most versatile material. Probably not anymore. Keep pushing the envelope, Darrell.

    • @Crazy_Cane
      @Crazy_Cane ปีที่แล้ว +16

      I respectfully disagree, tonewood, in my opinion, definitely exists. If I may ask, how would wood be one of the most versatile material? Do you mean by how it can be shaped?

    • @xbmpr
      @xbmpr ปีที่แล้ว +43

      It’s applicable to acoustics but it’s very negligible when it comes to electrics. Most of your tone will come from your setup and your pickups. There is also way more that go into it that you wouldn’t even consider such as nut material, bridge material, the pot and capacitors you use, even the wire and solder you use which is very nitpicky and useless.

    • @Crazy_Cane
      @Crazy_Cane ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@xbmpr I completely agree and would never overlook the other parts mentioned, but I think that wood does, however small, play a part in the tone of the guitar. I think nearly everything on the guitar plays a part in the tone.

    How do you think the neck dive will be? With a very light body and heavier neck.

    Would the neck dive not be terribly worse than a SG

    Very interesting. Being so light, I'm expecting some neck dive....although we don't know what the neck is made of yet 🤓

    I agree leave that glass neck on. It looks perfect for that body. Otherwise get another one of those cheap Chinese necks with the bird inlays. I bought two of those by the way and attached one on a fender Strat and the other on a Guitarfetish XGP body and they both work great. However, I like larger Frets so I may refret one of them with large stainless steel frets.

    Dang, that's a first for me.
    I am a professional product designer. I work with a lot of materials and have been using 3D printing for over 25 years.
    I am unfortunately thinking that the stresses on this will warp the thing.
    That center block is also 3D printed?
    Very curious to see how it works and sounds.

    I would like to see a video with the glass neck on and you wire up some some pickups and controls on. Do a test to see how everything works and if that neck is going to have any issues.

    Yeah, pretty looks... But, how will this acrylic neck maintain the tune (since it hasn't any rod, i.e. is spine-less)? Also: is the body firm enough to allow for the use of the floating bridge?
