      As an audio engineer, I purchased a 4D LED Maglite and it's been great! With an output of over 1000 lumens, it's dizzying to get shined in the face with, battery life is several days, completely water proof, and tough as nails! We also get hurricanes where I live, so it definitely has a spot in my emergency kit. I'd be reluctant to strike anyone with it, but I wouldn't hesitate to use it to block a bladed weapon if I needed to.

I LOVE that you push away from weapons and focus on self defense TOOLS. Great advice! The whole “whack! Just making sure you aren’t a threat” is silly, a simple light to ID a possible threat before escalating anything is awesome advice. Couldn't agree more about the value of a flashlight. I worked in security for years and having a flashlight is great I'd also say particularly when its cold get yourself some good quality gloves as you are far less likely to walk around with your hands in your pockets, if someone bites you in a clinch their less likely to break the skin and punching is less likely to break the skin.

    I don't understand, using a maglight is assault? Do you mean it tempts you to assault? How does the tool I use for defense determine whether it's assault?
    If somebody tries to knife me in the gut and I give him a wake-up-call with a triple-C-cell battery maglight, how is that assault?

  • @sorryg4352
    @sorryg4352 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think self defence channels should aways make the assumption that the attacker is stronger faster and a better fighter then the person defending because if the strategy works then then it will almost aways work and people looking to attack for whatever reason don't usually attack the strongest most dangerous person around there usually going for someone smaller then they are and this video is good because it would work on anybody especially at night when a attack is more common imagine if your a man attacking a girl at night there's very little she could do to hurt you your eyes have adjusted to the dark as it's dark and she pulls out a powerful bright torch and strobes it in your eyes this also works everywhere even in country's like England that would usually punish you for defending yourself no one is gonna punsh you for a torch another one in that case Is a can of deodorant. spray that in an attackers eyes and run you can carry a deodorant can and a torch anywhere.

  • @Psiberzerker

    That size is a great fist-load, (I used to carry a roll of Nickels) so another great thing about it is not only does it re-enforce your fist, but Mike's a boxer. I'm sure you picked up on that, but he doesn't have to change up his style. At all, he can hammerfist, bring it right back up into the attacker's eyes, bob, and weave... You know the Maglite. Not the Min-maglite, but the one cops, and security guards tap on your window, then shine in your eyes when they ask you why you're stopped there? Those guys train with a Baton, and they don't want to load up their belt (Any more) with a baton, AND a light. Now, look at the nylon sheathe that comes with the mini-maglite, slip it on your belt, and drop a collapsible Baton into it. Yes, that's intentional, by design. My point is that not only do multi-function tools make better weapons (Than weapons make multi-tools) but whatever you're trained in, drilled in, or experienced in. A weapon that fits right into that like the flashlight in Mike's fist is at least 1 less thing to carry.

      I saw a martial arts video of the problems with using a "fist load"
      It causes your knuckles below your top knuckles to engage the opponent.
      Those knuckles are much weaker than the top, and so you can break those knuckles during a fist-load and strong strike.
      Now, as a "hammer blow" with a loaded fist you're good to go.
      Search "hard2hurt" here. One of their vids explains all this.

      Back on tangent: And so I thank the young man for his assistance, drop a senior citizen's worth of change into the collection receptacle at the ticket both, and slowlw and calmly walked away as if no crime was committed.

    that stream light is too small go one size up and you get double the light output in a package almost as small and will make a decent impact weapon, others of that size will also incorporate a crenelated end which can tear up corrugated which is much tougher than skin.

    In many Australian cities, we're now in the position where the kids literally have no fear of the law - and that includes Police. We're talking juveniles who will assault paramedics, Police and anyone else who gets in the way of their 'fun ' - sounds like something straight out of a movie, but sadly that's where we're at. If, as an adult, I'm caught carrying a knife or anything else that can be construed as a weapon, the Police and the courts will come down very hard on me but the exact same weapon in the hands of someone under 18 would get them a slap on the wrist UNLESS they actually stab someone. Even then, a jail sentence is the last resort.
    My point is that this light could easily get you stabbed on our streets - the obvious exception being if you can use it to get far eoough away to start running while your knife-wielding opponent is blinded. Thanks for the video.

    Weaponize your light output and take it to the next level bumping up your lumen output to above 5000 real lumens. Thrunite, Acebeam, Emisar, Imalent, and Astrolux to name a few. Keep your LED range nice and hot above 6k. The biggest baddest out there right now is the Imalent MS18 at 100,000 lumens. This might permanently blind an opponent but if your life is in danger...

    Yeh I realise I'm two years late... They are both useful and effective, and both have their place. I more commonly have my Fenix 1600 lumen torch outside of my house, but my 6cell Maglite for home defence. There are numerous stories of Maglites saving lives. It is a perfect, lawful, defense weapon that gels with my skillset. The small torch does too but that's not the point here. It can block weapons and strike effectively. I know a guy who was ambushed with a hockey stick, the Maglite saving his life. I also know a friend who used one in a melee with some street kids, who had already stabbed one friend of mine. My mate cracked the guys skull and nearly killed him. Yes potentially deadly, but doesn't have to be, and so is an opponent with a knife. If you buy an aftermarket bevelled edge it can also become a formidable two handed weapon.

    I was a MSU varsity fencer and from that training could employ other object as defensive weapons such as a curtain rod. Now, at 84, with bum knees, sparing with my fists is simply not practical. However, blinding with the high lumen light an attacker and blasting him with MACE seems like a good plan. Or, instead of jabbing with one's fist, why not poke the blinded attacker with a flipper knife?

      not an instructor but safe to assume the knife comes out two likely scenarios one as a threat and is seen and two when its not and your close enough to be stabbed. Grappling is probably for that best case scenario of two where he is already gotten close enough to stab you and you cant make space. Even with that odds seem to be greatly against you but low chance better than no chance.

    the light on your eyes is a heplful nuissance, one of my friends has a laser light that actually burns you, (I think in some countries its illegal to own that thing) it can blind someone immediately if pointed at the eyes. I think it's a powerful self defense tool that nobody thinks of,, then again you would cause severe eye damage on your attacker, which is not an ideal result.
    on another note, me and Sergio from Practical Combat are thinking about doing some video chats with Mighty Mouse and you if you're up to it sometime, I know you're busy but the invitation is extended to you and of course you can always reupload it on your channel.

    • @robishere7339
      @robishere7339 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Consumer oriented/marketed lasers that powerful are definately not legal in Canada. They would be of no consumer value. Sself defense in Canada is legal, but you will probably get arrested first, and then either The Crown would drop the charges, or to court you go.
      Laser pointers are legal in Canada, but even these have been problematic. People, probably naively have pointed these things in my eyes, even though I was dressed appropriately as a security guard. I told them they need to stop, and they did. So no anal-retentive action or incident report was felt to be necessary. Airplaine and helicopter pilots have had many "blinding" type incidents with the soft drugs of lasers. No need to allow miscreants the opportunity to own what is never a toy, an over the top "defense" weapon.
      As a military vet, I know how easy it is to miss-aim at a stationary target, much less a moving target, and worse still a pissed-off moving target that may take your "weapon" away from a defendent before any likelihood of being more useful than scresming for help and running away.
      Handguns make more sense, but only where they're legal to carry, and you are trained enough to know how to use them in an ad hoc, tactictal situation.
      It takes years to train a quality infantry rifleman. I can't see an average person being effective with a weapon they will probably never spend the time and money on to get profession defensive trianing. And then, people don't know how expensive bullets are, unless they know. The people in the know would be cops, criminals, may not soldiers, 'cause they don't have to pay for their amo or trianing.
      Moral: trying to protect yourself with a non-weapon for offensive measures doesn't make sense, and non-sensical people should be watched very caredfully under strict supervision.
      A cell phone can be a better self-defense tool if you have the direct lind to the police dispatch in your quick dial. These numbers are usually available to the public, though you may have yo look for them (or ask a cop). The point: dialing 911 can cost valuable seconds if a threat is imminent, because they will ask you questions that need to, but calling cops more directly, or even fake-calling cops, can often be a better solution than trying to fight back, which I'm sure the channel OP would agree.
      Stay safe, and knowledge is your best weapon. I'd rather know how to submission an adversary with potentially lethal force than become another victim.
      I've been mugged twice, and had a few very lame "street fights". This was when I was homeless and probably looked like an obvious target. I did't beg or loiter, but spent my time in the library, fitness centre that are free for the poor. I never let myself succumb to The Streets. I lost battles, but sometimes its better to lose when the odds of winning are against you. Sometimes is not forever.

    That’s a decent idea to use a flashlight, but what about if they try to wrestle you? Once they grab you, you can’t use the flashlight on them anymore. Pepper spray might be a better option than the flashlight. Then you could disable them and gain and then run away while they are distracted.
