This episode demonstrates that during the original brainstorming session in the writer's room, everything was planned before the first script was written.
I liked how in the initial Thanos post-credit scene had "... is to court death." To the uninitiated, it was a typical "You will die" warning, but to us who know the lore, it was a great nod. Of course, in the end it _was_ a typical "You will die" warning. I get why they changed Thanos' motive: the casual audience wasn't ready for "Oh, Death is an actual person and he's trying to impress her." Needed a few more years of Dr. Strange and Agatha's introduction to sell the _really_ magical and mystical aspects of Marvel to the normies.
Best episode of the series, possibly one of the best episodes of any series. And just thinking about the writers' requirements to make the timelines work and fit together throughout the series to all come together in this one episode... it gives me a headache just imagining it 😂 Keeping track of one normal, linear timeline is hard enough in writing! They need to be nominated for an Emmy.
It was a mask. With some computer manipulation to move it back into her skull. There's very little fully computer-generated in this series. Aside from the energy effects of magic, some flying debris, and the sky on the road, I can't point out anything, tbh. Even the witches flying in front of the blood moon was model work. The beach house in ep3 was a forced-perspective model, the other trial houses were painted backdrops. The witches' flying was wirework, although there's some bluescreen for the closeup in ep5 and some distance manipulation [later]. The animals for the Salem Seven were real, aside--hah! found one---from the bugs.
I genuinely think this show was a test - can Marvel make a compelling show for a quarter of their typical budget? The answer is a definitive YES! It just takes some creativity.
Whatever you do, don't say the word "time" in the "Your Path Winds Out of Time" trial room. It makes things worse. Loved the Maestra. In all the bouncing around she is this calm center of wisdom. And then, "What will you do with your remaining time?" Lilia had big feelings about her coven all dying despite her Sight. This time she uses her Sight to save her new coven. And she meets Death with a look of peaceful acceptance at the end. If you're curious you can find images of the unique tarot cards from Lilia's reading online. Also, Aubrey _is_ wearing a mask as Death. See the Marvel video "Agatha All Along | Costumes Behind the Scenes"
Thanks to Julia and Trent! 🧙♀ I really love this episode. Ms. LuPone is a remarkable performer. I've admired her nearly a quarter of a century by this point.
PRACTICAL EFFECTS REAL SWORD CEILING Also Maestra being able to see along Lilia’s timeline “something you still tell yourself” is crazy because it’s *hundreds of years later* And she immediately understands the moment’s Lilia was talking about. It has similar energy to Death being able to go anywhere at anytime even in the magical delusions that were placed by Wanda
I think that the "fall" in the tower was not what killed Lilia. Lilia died from that fall through the mud, the one where she saw Rio coming down the tunnel towards her. But because of the way her consciousness moves through her timeline, even though she "died" there and then, she still had more moments to visit... more gaps that needed filling. So... she falls to her death, meets Death, then pops "forward" to finish the Tarot reading (thanks for that handy hand Agatha), then set off her trap to kill the Seven (and finally save a coven). Then, as she's falling "up", she pops "back" to her childhood, finishes off the bits she has never been able to remember, then pops "forward" to the moment immediately after she recognized Rio as Death. No doubt Rio, even if she were able to sense the "delay", would just wait patiently for Lilia to "turn up". I mean, she's already waited 450 years for her, and we're all willing to wait for a friend.
That’s a fascinating take. It would align with how Lilia sits down in front of her mentor as an adult and is in her road outfit and not the Glinda outfit she “died” in and her mentor asks what she is going to do with her remaining time…
Great episode, great reaction. Loved how the audience experiences the episode out of sequence like Lidia. Looking forward to your reaction to the last two which are also very good. I agree the costumes were fun. I loved that at one point they even had Jen holding an apple as the old hag.
It says a lot about the quality of this show that an older lady reading tarot cards had me more hyped than most of the actual big budget movie fight scenes Marvel released since endgame.
it's the feeling of everything falling into place, like a good murder mystery reveal etc even if this isn't strictly about a mystery. The directing just hits that tone so well.
@deborahjanes3706 Yes. But some reactors waited a week in between 8 and 9 to post. Also, for reactors late to the party, it wouldn't matter to them if 8 and 9 dropped at the same time, because all the episodes are currently available.
This is one of the best episodes that Marvel Television has produced! If Patti LuPone doesn’t get an Emmy for this I will truly be disappointed.
Absolutely!!! It was phenomenal ❤
as a sicilian tarot reader, this episode meant everything to me.
This episode is so well done. They linked all of Lilia’s premonitions together in such a beautiful way. The best MCU episode I’ve ever seen.
This episode demonstrates that during the original brainstorming session in the writer's room, everything was planned before the first script was written.
Man, I wish I could watch this episode again for the first time!
I just want to give Jac and Patti and everyone who worked on this all their flowers. My God(dess), what a great episode.
You know, when your competition is Kathryn Hahn, Thanos really got no chance

@@JLRules I also don't think the general audience was ready for the campy side of MCU just yet.

Billy is in the coven. The 🖤 was him. Lilia couldn’t write his name because of the sigil. His boyfriend referred to him as 🖤 in their texts.

THE best episode of the series, the best episode of marvel television and one of my favourite episodes of tv period. so brilliant in every aspect
Billy struggles with the identity crisis of an "adopted child."

This one of the best episodes of any show I ever seen. This show is amazing and keeps getting better
One of the best episodes in Marvel!! ❤
Patti LuPone still killing it. It's nice to see younger generations discover and appreciate those who exist outside their age bubble.

This is the reaction I was most looking forward to... and I had tears again in the closing scenes 😭
What a performance from Patti Lupone!

I think this episode is the best piece of television I have seen in a long time.

Fantastic episode 💜
the best episode, patti lupone act her ass off and the reveal would've been so much better if funko didn't spoiled it😭
The Tarot Deck from this episode will be made available by Marvel this coming year.
Great episode.
Did you notice the end theme tune was used as Quicksilvers in X-Men first class. Could this be a nod that perhaps Tommy could save her?
Days of Future Past, but I suspect they chose it because it felt appropriate to this episode.
@RealBLAlley thanks, I'm always getting them mixed up.
The skull portion was an actual prosthetic she wore.
She begins again but in control of her power... at least I believe it
..

Damn.... using his full name
the great patti lupone
Best episode 🎉 marvel won
In large part to Jac Schaeffer. 😉
And Patti LuPone, of course. 🩵
She fell exactly like Rhaenys in HOD
!😢
Actually it was all practical “magick” her face wasn’t cgi, it’s actually real makeup and prosthetics
New Subscriber here. For your sanity and ours, you may want to consider doing the last two episodes together in one video. Trust me on this. 😉
Weren't they dropped the same day?

Lilia was Iconic Patti Lupone was a performance show
Please react to Heartstopper after Agatha😊
