I truly hope your customers appreciate how lucky they are having a specialist like you. So many garages and dealers simply don't look to the future and it costs the customer more in the long run. Well done you!
I appreciate that! Thanks 🙏
Such a nice car/engine gonna last forever with how you look after it
My favourite type of car is a german sports saloon, and this is a beauty. Autobahn missile.
Thank you 🙏 more videos on this car to come.
A very thorough insight to what is required in keeping an e63 in tip top order
Servicing customer’s car and your own car
There is no difference same love, care and attention is given regardless
You have a good taste in cars! In the past few months I did engine/gearbox oil, mounts, spark plugs, pcv, intake gaskets, valve cover gaskets, and the rear air springs on my 2011 E63.
The man him self the AMG meister, yes i know our collection is very similar, i am a fan of your channel. We have also spoken before on IG.
Mounts make a big difference don't they, caught mine before they got to bad.
@@sprautos Ah yes, we discussed the MCT gearbox on IG. Since replacing the intake manifold gaskets, PCV valve, and also injectors the car is now top notch. Smooth as a non-mct 7-speed. The mounts also helped as well.
We certainly did. Injectors also a good one, makes a smoother drive and a really good preventative maintenance job.
you sir are my Amg specialist. love your vidz
At what cost?
I've started doing as a part time some work on Mercedes cars, had loads of cars but my heart goes to Mercs, nothing fancy, like regular services etc, done an oil cooler on my S class W221 320cdi and changed the turbo this week as one of the exhaust manifolds damaged the turbo. This channel is Gold, not rushing and all that, my style of work, thanks for the vids!
Nothing fancy! But you’ve done an oil cooler! That sir deserves credit as it isn’t an easy job. Well done. And welcome 🙏
A used W212 E200 pre-factlift was my first choice when looking around for another car. After 10 years with a W210 E200.
But my wife, despite liking it too, felt it isn't too suitable for us. "Gives the impression to others like we have a lot of money".
So we went for something in a totally different league from a Mercedes - a brand new Daihatsu Rocky/Perodua Ativa 1.0 She loves it very much, the perkiness. But I'd often think of the W212 at times 🙂
- Selangor, Malaysia
A 212 is a pretty well built car by Mercedes, I would say the best of that era.
But what ever makes the wife happy make our lives easier 😂
Another great video Sam 👍🏻 Ive had my W204 C63 Amg since new in 2013 and brought it to you last year for a service & preventative maintenance which I wouldn’t go anywhere else now. Sam knew how much the car means to me and took as much care as he does in the videos. He even replaced some undertray bolts FOC which were missing from the previous year from a different garage!
See you again next year Sam
Thanks phil
That’s a long time owning a c63 you must love it and I can see why.
I'm a retired mechanic from Australia, I have just subscribed after watching a few of your videos, and find them very informative. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to your next video.
Thanks John and thank for the sub. We’re getting more and more viewers from Australia 🇦🇺
Been watching over a year and it's always a pleasure to watch how you sensitively but firmly mentor young lads like Nathan. This approach will pay huge dividends and hopefully produce a dynasty of people who care. Keep it up, it's heart-warming.
Excellent advice. Buying the vehicle is just the beginning. Take care of it, and it will take care of you.
Well said!
Excellent video, my 1st time to watch, very impressed.
Great video and content! Such a nice motor, which looks absolutely prestine! A buyers guide and cost of ownership would be really good and interesting 👍
Great vid. Like you I've owned one of these pre-facelifts W212s for about 7 years, only difference is mine is the M157. Really great cars. Would love to see a buyers guide or owners long term review video.
I am going to do a 5 year running cost video. should be interesting.
E63! That’s a keeper!
03:38 There will be so many M156 owners cursing you for that😂
So easy to snap that cover.
I`m a retired aircraft mechanic and used to work for Qantas here in Australia. The proceedures that you follow are very similar to the policy and procedures that we would work to, that being preventative maintenance. You did really well to spot that leaking hose during sevicing your car before it let you down. Also, I was just wondering what you think of Mercedes electric cars and if you service and repair those,or if you would ever own one yourself?
05:08 It’s good to change the fluid even if the reservoir reads good because the fluid in the calipers often never circulates back to the reservoir. Would be interesting to see what the condition of the fluid at the calipers would be.
Well observed...
I have a 2012 S212 250CDI, and I am so grateful for the weather in Perth, Australia. All the stuff rusting on your AMG still looks like new on my 155,000 km car. And the screws holding the coils are not self tappers, but special screws for plastic. The have a very narrow angle, ensuring they do not apply a lot of radial load while gripping well. Great job!
A local guy has one here in Ireland, such a understated car.
Excellent work once again!
This is so important. I love this channel. What a beauty
Using the same yellow microfiber cloth for the whole car, takes a new meaning to universal 😄 cheers
Absolute excellent video, quality 👍
If I ever own a AMG will definitely bringing it to you.
Mate, only recently found your channel, excellent vids, recently bought a W204 c-class do my own servicing so your vids are top tier. Keep em coming. 👍
I'm really enjoying the channel and seeing the expertise.
Thank you! Comments like this will keep us going!
Taking care of those extra jobs will pay you back in spades. You've dodged a bullet with that cooolant hose. I like the W212 and for me it would be the E-Class of choice.
Apriciate the torgue , not many mechanics stick to that they all think experience is enough to tighten bolts, i fixed many leaking gaskets because of other mecanics experience, 😂 keep it up mate
Great vid, thanks.
running cost video would be great and would show actual ownership costs. Great Video!
We have it on the to do video list. Going to do 5 year running costs
Top work Sam.
Very thorough indeed.
Wish all garages were as trustworthy ⚠️
It's amazing how many places just change a couple of filters and call it a service 🙄
I've got to do all that on my SL55 AMG 38k miles
Totally agree!
That’s a low mileage SL 55! Enjoy
Currently in Brisbane Australia it is at night 24C and it will drop to 16C at 5am . No salt no rust, no problems. I left that Ice box a long time ago. But I would service my Lexus ES 350 with you. You would find at 200,000k it needs nothing but normal services. Oil fluids and brakes.. It still is shiny underneath and inside.
Great video
Brilliant video! Please do keep posting please , a running cost and other maintenance videos would be great. Great channel!
Thank you! Yea we have had a few requests for the running costs I think we will do that in the new year.
lovely motor you've got there sam W212 is my fave e class shape for sure but i do have a soft spot for the w211 and loving the content your putting out very helpful indeed all the best for new year to the SPR crew
Thank you very much!
Buyers guide and or running cost would be great. I’m looking for a Merc as we speak.
Great videos by the way.
Allan
Coming soon!
Any videos would be appreciated great videos to watch keep them coming
More to come! Thanks Matt
Very interesting stuff especially the spark plug change and just shows why using a specialist is important. Having said that my VAG dealer tried removing my spark plugs and ripped the coil pack stems. Silicon used to join the rubber and sent me on my way. Car failed after 3 hours and recovered. Mechanic did get fired.
@SmearCampaignUK Was VAG on VAG. Car had severe misfire but could have been worse I guess. I now understand the importance of the spark plug grease.
Yea the stems will stick unless you use that special stuff.
Easy to damage the stems if it hasn’t been used in the previous spark plug change. Unlucky for the mechanic but should of just held his hands up and got some stems authorised and prevented a brake down.
Great video - watching more of this channel than High Peaks now, which is what got me here.
Glad you enjoy it!
Great video! Looking forward to the running costs, buyer's guide and other videos that you will do with the car.
Very informative video. Well done mate!
Much appreciated!
Great video - love seeing you work on the M156’s 👍🏼
Plenty more to come. Enjoy! And thanks 🙏
Really interesting to see the price of the work you do, thanks.
i have the same car - 2010, so far so good 141K miles now, bought w/ 40K, very trouble free, both rear shocks replaced last week, leaking badly and zero dampening....
i swear i saw a smile..lovely vid as always. all the best for the new year.
Thank you! You too!
😊 😂
Just found your channel Sam, really enjoyable videos, keep up the great work. Buyers guide and running costs videos would be really interesting to see. Happy New Year.
Thanks very much.
Lots of requests for the running costs so we will get it in the diary for the new year.
Thanks Simon, plenty of requests for the running costs so we will get that done in the new year.
Thanks for supporting
Thanks a lot for the advice...Great content!
It’s a beautiful car. If I had you to service my Benz, I would definitely have one 😊
If only Inlived nearer to you, I would buy another Merc. I owned a 2001 CLK W208 for 16 years. I got to know the service manager of my local Mercedes dealer very well. Over the years, the car cost me in repairs and servicing how much it cost me to buy it. A little over £16,000 !
Man, that is an excellent car plus a cool video with lots of knowledge and reasons why should be done.
Please do a video of running costs ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks! Great feedback for us.
Yes it’s been requested and we will get on it in the new year. I think I’ve owed it 5 years in February.
Good job your camera guy was there to fill in the gaps 😊
That's not just maintaining that is.....car love. Brilliant.
Great video
Please can I suggest you recommend which engines to and which not to buy
Great video, love the tube channel, you guys are pretty good Mercedes mechanics I am a fan, been a Mercedes owner since 1981 200E 4 speed manual which I converted to a 220d back in Ireland basic straight bolt on with new engine mount brackets to the chassis location, since then Mercedes all my life today an E63 6.3 V 8 2008 156 engine model and we all know the problems but what to do once a Merc guy always a Merc. So not a criticism more like an observation as worked on Mercs all my life and grew up on watching father service his 280 SEL 1966 model I think SGT 369F Reg what a car. During my years on the spanners I always flush engines regardless do you guys believe in this practice in particular when removing the sumps as I always do its surprising how much muck drops during the flush, anyway all good lads and well done , might drop by the shop for a service in the near future as considering a new car Merc of course. all the best. P.S. ( hope you lads grease the filter seals during the service (;0] sure you do ) grease grease and more grease is the saving grace plus I grease coat the sumps and or paint them light brush coat , bit of grease coat protects the sumps generally that bloody salt ,as they slide over speed ramps and car park ramps a deadly enemy of the heavy V8 Mercs the grease helps when scoring the metal every bit helps, keep up the good work Mick.
Please do a buyers guide and a total cost!
Great video, I've owned my W212 e63 with P30 package for 10+ years, bought with 24K on the clock & now on 186K. Maintained by my local MB specialist after the dealer warranty expired, I'm saving up for camshaft adjuster work as top end is rattly on start-up. Rear subframe replaced 13 mths ago, your running costs report would be of interest. Keep up the good work
Cheers frank, we will get it done in the new year.
Great to see how many miles you’ve put on yours! It’s nice to see them getting used. Your running cots would be interesting also.
Thanks and great to hear. Mine's in for its annual service at the end of this week, I'll drop you a note with costs to date after that. Happy New Year!@@sprautos
Great video, lots of good tips, thanks for sharing 👍
Great Job guys, I have a CLK sport with a amg package and my car get everything its need from my Mercedes specialist a one of a kind Mercedes car
Such an interesting video, loved it thanks.
Thanks David. All the best
I’ve had c63, cls63 & couple of e63 last 10 years. E63 M157 by far the best I’ve owned, I even remapped it to 700bhp 🤤.
Keep up the good work, really enjoy watching your videos. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Very nice! You’ve had them all! Thanks for supporting the channel
@@sprautos I’ve had some retrofitting done to mine, would you be able to code them in?
I would like to see more SL-Class, fewer E-Class.
Deffo a buyers guide as i am interested in buying one 💯👍 many thanks.
Thanx, good vid, confirms what I do when I service my CLK , I always check other things, change diff oil, clean egr etc even if it might not be needed.
Beautiful car and a thorough job to keep her in top running order. Would love to hear more about running costs and things to look out for on purchasing the 63 range. Thanks
Yea I think a running costs would be a good one.
Yes quite satisfying to watch so more content on your e63 please! I had the w212 e250cdi and always admired the e63 variant..
We will keep it coming
Great video
More like this please 👍
More to come!
Thanks mike
Had faulty mounts on SL. the engine was jumping up one side when you reved. Something that suprised me is they were also making the grip on the rear end skitish.
Hi, can you do a review on the e63 w212 m156 and also provide any advice on the rear subframe corrosion. 👍
Lovely looking motor though!
Interesting video 👌🏼👌🏼
Cheers SPR any chance you have video on R172 250cdi 2015
I would gladly buy that car off you.
She is a beast
I always grease my clips as well Sam 😂
😂
😂
😂
I am looking into buying a w212 estate and would greatly appreciate a detailed buyers guide and matainance costs video. Also a history of that generation would be good to know, particularly what's the difference between the facelift and non facelift and what are the pros and cons between manual transmission vs. automatic (what's the difference between tiptronic vs. g tronic?)
You never know in the future we might have one.
Also check out Highpeak autos YT channel they have covers a lot of merc reviews.
I noticed the front tyres. Would you replace both front or just the one? Great video.🙂
I will let them get lower and replace the pair
Iv had always owned amgs from w124’s-210-m156-m157- w205’s & w212-3’s . Right now I am 911 c4S & CLS63 shotting brake in the rarer red which you don’t see it’s due a B service now
That’s a nice range you’ve had. Which has been your favourite? And what was the 124?
@@sprautos hi there bud , as you will see I am an amg fanatic , but as a petrolhead I have never owned a ‘normal’😂. W124 was my first Mercedes 30yrs ago 300E (M104) it was dads car but ended being mine what a car!. My favourite is hard to differentiate as they all have their flaws in the sense of na variant it has to be the M156 that got blood flowing faster as I WEISTEC’d it at MSL performance to hit a near 800 horse power beast phenomenal torque! M157 is a close second but much powerful to its m156 brother . BTW non of my cars ever had cats!😁. Iv had m156 saloon ppp, m156 red wagon ppp m157 e63 black , w205 wagon fully decatted that it was in nice grey with designo red leathers w205 c63 edition one coupe from new that stayed untuned as its warranty could of got void , I did fly off amg briefly so r8 v10 plus came then v12 CL now got CLS63 shooter and a 911. sorry for the long sentence but I thought I should let it all out since you asked 😅
Good chap
Are these cars generally more reliable then C63's or similar? Had a SLK55 amg for a while now and thinking of changing to C63 or E63.
Nice car
Is Monroe the OEM manufacturer for the shocker? Thats a blast from the past.
Yea it is that’s a genuine unit from MB.
I was surprised myself, old one was the same also.
How did you manage to get a slot? 😂
😂
I wondered if you did alignment because I have the same issues with the front and rear Tyers wearing on the inside even after doing the tracking
One of my back toe was out be a lot causing bad wear.
These AMG do suffer with inner tyre were due to the lower profile of the car and camber set up for handling
Why use miles?
Hi Sam, love your videos. I wonder if you could give me some advice please. I own a 1999 SL500 with only 32k on it. I had to change the pipe from the steering box to the pump and i bled the system several times by jacking up the front and turning the wheel from left to right. But i am getting a noise coming from the steering box. Obviously there is still air trapped in there. If i turn the wheel just a touch, the noise goes away. Any ideas. Sorry if i am being cheeky asking you, but i am stuck now. Thanks.
Where do you get the Studs and the special Mercedes tool from??
direct from the dealer
What grease for the spark plug threads??
I was always taught to do plugs with a cold engine. This is the 2nd video today I have heard them done with a warm engine? What is the right way?
I suppose there is no right and wrong. If I couldn’t get them out easily cold I would
Try them hot. No harm
Either way if you ask me. To many opinions on the internet these days.
09:55 Do you reckon the exhaust heat cycle that close to the transmission oil pan is causing the paint to flake off and then prematurely rust the pan?
They don’t seem to last very long in my experience.
Maybe worth putting in some cheap sticky back glass fibre reflective heat shield in that area?
The salt on the Uk roads kills the pan, plus there isn’t much paint on it for protection.
@@sprautos ❤️
- Buyers Guide On This And The Previous Gen Please 🙏🏾
One of my Suppliers had a Brabus V12 2010 e class with black and cream leather
Ffffff it was rapid and so stealthy had Focus ST’s trying to burn it off. 😂😂😂😂
Nice!!
And why is that main dealer and some independent specialist don't drain torque converter when getting ATF changed?
Good question
This is an MCT gearbox and doesn’t have a torque converter.
We can do it on normal auto boxes at an extra fee to cover the extra time as fluid “the fluid isn’t cheap at £10 per ltr”, you will find most dont to reduce the cost of the service for the customer as it is a common job to be declined even at the reduced fee, but at least there is an option there to pay extra.
I didn't hear the part about plug gapping? Did you check them? Was it not recorded maybe
Yea not everything gets recorded. But you have to be very careful with these plugs as you can easily damage the electrode.
Great video love the orange hosepliers are they snap on?
I think there a cheap set off eBay tbh
thanks looking at your tools i thought they where snap on but could find them@@sprautos
I should do a tool box tour
Just out of curiosity whats the ball park cost you would charge if the car was a customers and all the parts and labour was included?
Ball park around the £2k mark I would recon.
A service
Gearbox service
New gearbox sump
Brake fluid
Rear diff oil
Spark plugs
Hose
Coolant flush
Engine and gearbox mounts
Exhaust clamps
Labour
@@sprautos thank you
That's actually better than I thought, I mean it's a chunk of cash but it's also a lot of labour and parts.
Certainly is. A lot of parts and labour.
What is it with Mercs and rust ?
Buyers guide please.
Hi, could you please tell me what the name of antifreeze, gearbox oil, differential oil, engine oil you use? Thanks 🙏
We buy direct from mb for oils.
Antifreeze who ever has the best deal providing it meets MB spec
Is there a tip for knowing main dealer has actually carried out an ATF change? Always a fear when leaving the car at the mercy of main dealer hands..
That’s a difficult one really, it would be hard to tell, I suppose you could inspect the sump to see if it’s clean and a fresh looking copper washer on there, and you will be able to see the outer part from the sump seal to see if that looks new.
Yes what came to my mind was having to get the car up in the air elsewhere afterwards..@@sprautos
I guess you could put some tip ex or such like on the filler/ drain bolt flat, and then after see if it's been removed.
Seems a bit " detective columbo" but if needs must.
