dude....there's tip conditioner for this. Also tips are wear items. What you did there, it's clean, but it oxidizes immediately with heat, so you would need to repeat every use
I've always wiped the hot stinger as you call it with a cotton shop rag (worn out undies) and touch it up on a wire wheel start to finish, less than a minute.
I get these black deposits on my soldering tip that NOTHING will get off!! Could it be the water I'm using in the sponge???
Have you tried using salt to clean your soldering tip? It can work wonders! 😊
