  • This video is part two of my Land Rover Defender camper conversion.
    In this video I will take you through the remaining modifications and additions to my overland camper so far - it is a work in progress, so by no means finished - there will always be further additions!
    This video covers the remaining storage, the rear door al-fresco cooking area, the bed, the flooring, the curtains, the electrical system, lighting, the front swivel seat and the heating system.
    I am very happy with how it is working for me both as a work vehicle during the week and as a recreational vehicle for off-road adventures and camping at the weekend.
    I hope you enjoy the video and thanks for watching!

    Hi folks - some of you were having trouble with the discount code for the heater - this is now sorted - all my fault!
    The code is ‘Simon’

      I went on their website. They have a ton of heaters. Which model do you have? I don't see any at £95. I assume that's after the discount.

    Simon, your creative ingenuity blows me away. And not just for the Land Rover but many other things that are featured in your videos. From making Ammo Can tent stoves, oil lamp inserts for candle lanterns, bucksaws, reflector ovens, wood gas stoves to sewing together baker tents and wool bush shirts. It's just outstanding! Combined with all of your camping/bushcraft trips and your great down-to-earth personality, your channel is by far my favorite on TH-cam. Cheers!

    U r truly a gifted handyman Simon!!!
    It looks like a great diy
    Build !!!! Impressive work, problem solving and application !!! Nice 👍🏽👍🏽😀 job on the swivel chair !!! ..... Another excellent example of problem solving and application. you really did luck out on how that Chinese heater just happened to fit where it did which made the plumbing to the outside a lot easier and then the fact that the fuel tank just happened to fit right there yeah that's a good thing every dog deserves his day !!!
    By the way Simon I just wanted you to know that at the beginning of the video where you're driving along and the cameras at the very back of the vehicle showing the whole routine of driving shifting steering that was truly excellent and I really enjoyed that I thought that was a nice touch well done !!!!
    Cheers to you amigo 👍🏽😀.

    Hi Simon, that’s some great carpentry there! Deciding what should go where takes some deep thought and determination! The satisfaction you must get from this build makes me smile! To do it all on a budget , it’s a win win! Thanks for all your effort in putting this together! 👍

  • @Phoeff99
    @Phoeff99 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    You failed to mention how you picked the ultra stealth color palette of the various exterior panels! Amateurs may excitedly go for a single color and accidentally draw attention and reveal that it is in fact quite a swanky camper inside but YOU were clever enough to choose an inspired spectrum of particular natural hues to throw off even the most attuned observer! Don’t gloss over the small stuff! It’s your attention to those finer points that elevates this from craft to art. 😜👍🏻
    love it Simon and more jealous than you know of your build and the promise of adventure it represents!

    Really loving your build. A couple of things about the diesel heater, wrap the pump in foam and put under the vehicle in a box attached to the underside. Your blower air intake is supposed to be recirculating the already warmed air inside your vehicle, pulling in and heating -1° air from outside will use a load of diesel unnecessarily. All you are achieving is forcing out the warm air around your door rubbers and windows etc. Heat heated air and crack a window slightly for ventilation

    • @simonablokeinthewoods
      @simonablokeinthewoods  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@simonablokeinthewoods on the plus side of your setup you will have fresh warm air and no condensation but it’s not ideal. If it was my build then I would fit a lever system to divert between fresh or recirculating air. Loving the content by the way 😄

    Just watched a guy in Alberta Canada (where I also live) talking about the Chinese diesel heather he was installing in his van build, and the instillation of the fuel pump and how noise it was. He did a similar thing regarding the fuel pump and had it zip tied rather than mounted.
    Nice build on your lanny can’t afford one out here. Like the hammock idea everyone else goes for a fixed or Murphy style bed.

    Interesting conversion. Since 1996 I`ve owned 4 110s, doing my own simple additions for use as a camping vehicle. I like the idea of the diesel heater, though these days I use a Ducato self styled campervan, fitted with a wood burning stove and a 2 burner stove from a caravan for cooking. I have only recently subscribed to your channel, got on to you from Kent Survival. What you do is very informative. Thanks for sharing your adventures.

    As an American from the East Coast, I LOVE Bluegrass music! Thanks for this offering. Many North Americans dream of living 'free and wild', much like a turtle, carrying what we need within a portable shell. So, we purchase 'teardrop' style towable campers. Decades ago, I had a friend who did a lot of woodlands surveying. He did much less to make his pickup with shell comfortable than you have done. As a craftsman, he cut a heavier steel stove down to 'pickup' size. Your diesel heater was not an option in his day.

    I have ripped out and binned Webasto, Eberspacher and Mikuni heaters from various camper builds when one or more of their components have failed and replaced them with 5Kw Chinese diesel air heaters.
    One dosing pump for an eberspacher costs almost double the price for an entire Chinese heater kit.
    All you need to remember is that the Chinese heater is a direct copy of the Eberspacher D2. The research and development had been done years ago in Germany, the Chinese simply made a squillion copies when the copyright expired after 25 years.
    You could buy 15 Chinese heater kits or one eberspacher kit ....Anybody would buy a second Chinese heater just for spare parts 😀
