  • In this MixCon video, Joel Wanasek takes you through systems that will allow you to mix faster than ever before, while being more creative and getting better results.
    Sound too good to be true? It isn't. Wanasek practices what he preaches, and it has led to his own success as producer and mixer for the likes of Miyavi, Machine Head, Vinyl Theater, Blessthefall and more.

    I took Joel's Speed Mixing class and it absolutely transformed my business. Tt eliminated all the pain points of dealing with clients, and I've begun to build a reputation as the guy who gives back high quality mixes within a couple of hours of receiving the files that adhere to my mixing template. Building templates sounds painful, but once you get going, you wouldn't believe how quickly and efficiently stems fall into their place. People can't wait to work with you. If you only heed 3 things from this presentation, follow his client interaction email to the tee, implement just a routing template and shift your mentality to always do all the technical tasks before you do your creative tasks, you're going to blown away by how quickly you acquire clients.
    And if you really want to level up, sign up for URM!

    It's been a long time since a get so much useful information about mixing from a single video, and even though many people talk about templates out there, no one specifies how they do their templates.
    Just awesome.

    I love Joel's enthusiasm and energy. He definitely promotes an awesome philosophy about keeping it creative and not too technical. His Speed Mixing course and the URM Academy community have been a game changer for me this past year. Also I'm glad I'm not the alone in talking super fast

    The speed mixing course written by Joel is excellent , slick and well designed. The focus is on the learner who also has a learning experience that is integrated in to social media platforms. The team that runs the course ensures that the majority of learners succeed through encouragement, 1-2-1 sessions, as well as challenging and realistic targets.
    I was a slow and pedantic mixer prior to joining the course, who has a Masters in music and is a Phd candidate for Bristol University. The course's theoretical concepts are supported through scholarship, and the way the course evolves has made me rethink my practice and organisation. The 90/10 concept and funnels allow a learner to really show off their creative flair, without having to overthink menial tasks.
    I can't believe the price of the course, I would recommend this to any University student studying a degree in audio. If they apply Joel's techniques they will be able to let their creativity flow, rather than worrying about gain staging, balance, routing etc.
    Overall, I agree with the posts below stating that it is game changing. Although in my opinion it creates an element of freedom from traditional, slow and archaic concepts.

    It is a very cool course. It has helped me focus dramatically. And the material included will definitely help me stay focus and organised in later stages of the game. well worth it

    Speed Mixing and Joels' over all instruction has significantly increased my work flow and effectiveness. Focusing on what matters, and not re-inventing the wheel every time I approach a project. Speed Mixing for me went far beyond mixing, as I have applied the same principles and strategies, to all other areas regarding music production.
    Focusing on the fundamentals and building gut instincts is a unfortunate anomaly in this day an age of whiz-bang products; where most will simply gloss over the fundamentals, in order to get excited about some triple parallel side chain nonsense.
    If you want to up your game in either business or audio production, Joel Wanasek is a serious top contender for mentors you will want to follow and emulate!

    23:48 I'm dying Joel hahah. Good stuff man! Everyone who has not yet, please go buy speed mixing (or wait until it is released again). It has saved me so much technical time.... You can always swap out different compressors, eqs, reverbs, etc. on specific instruments easily or load a different saved preset then quickly tweak to taste for a given project. I used to think templates were so evil (not in the badass metal way). Really they just save you time on all the technical crap you'd be doing on every session...

I mean seriously, their bundles are a solid case of "shut up and take my money" because it worth every penny! #nosmalltime

    This is good shit. Because learning the clients they get more and cheaper is the right way. Another way could be to try explaining why some things take time and the value of it. However competition doesn't always allow that. Very unfortunate.

    • @Weston_Guidero
      @Weston_Guidero 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah we live in a very now, now instant fast world. It's unfortunate, but this definitely helps for lower budget stuff. It's a lot about how much you're being paid for you time. If it's a massive budget, then you should definitely put more time and really get super technical at times (which the template still saves you time for haha!). But a lot of stuff isn't especially when starting out.

    • @cornerliston
      @cornerliston 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      True to low budget projects! Good point. The problem though is that all clients notice this and also wants things done faster and cheaper. Hopefully that's not completely the truth but be careful what you promise your clients.
