Dismissing most of the Spurs current core is so funny to me - we constantly under-appreciate who they draft and how they develop players. Lonnie Walker, Derrick White, Kyle Anderson - 3 nobody’s when they were on our team and now getting all the flowers/spotlight in other teams. Vassell, Johnson, Sochan, Branham, Wesley, Jones - this young core will likely be key parts of our future and other teams futures. Keldon Johnson has added pieces to his game and scored at a high level with the squad they had (Poetl at center for a good portion of it). I get that this guy worked for the Spurs, but to say there is no good 2nd option when you have the Big Body seems like a mis-read on his part. With attention on someone like Wemby on defense, it only makes sense that the Body will benefit from it.

Great take. They can take on any "poison pill" (aka back-loaded) contract for a year or two in exchange for some (projected) late first round picks/early second round picks while developing their young core. They can then add the missing pieces later when it becomes clear how the rest of the young core shakes out.

The common sleeper agent of our beloved league is that occasional young team that comes together and achieves the unthinkable. OKC, Trae’s first few years at ATL, there’s so many examples across the league. We can harp on the potential woes and fears, but this kid might truly be something special. Hard chance it takes us all the way in year one, but WHEWWWW BOY we definitely have a future ahead.

If you trade keldon, we take a step back losing a scorer and 3 pt threat. Rather a 3 team trade with a Toronto for siakam or Chicago for lavine. Give Chicago back it's pick +another 1st and Portland gets a star + two 1sts. And we get #3

@@Keezus. Dame doesn't fit our timeline and they want to keep him which means they won't want to keep scoot cause theyre not rebuilding. Scoot is same age as wemby and he could end up being as good as dame anyways. we'd still have 2 1st round picks in the near future.

Possible moves they do if they want to "not make big moves asap but develop fast asap" is to get brook lopez and hopefully hes willing to come off the bench to mentor wemby and sochan. They could also wait on tre jones cause i think he's one consistent jumpshot and floater away from being a great starter, and then get an old inexpensive pg to help the team and then if tre doesnt pan out they could just draft in the next 3 years. Players that come to mind are Dragic from the bucks, vanvleet, cp3 if he comes cheap and we dont trade significant assets, reggie jackson since he doesnt play a lot in denver.

Is it inconceivable to think that the Spurs could get another top 3 pick this year to accelerate the rebuild.
They got a ton of picks. Maybe the hornets prefer to take a sure thing player wise from the Spurs who fits lámelo and a few picks vs take a chance on a prospect.
Would the hornets take Devin vassell and 2 future firsts for the rights to scoot.
The Spurs fans like vassell and I think he’s good too but the upside to this is that you avoid paying vassell the big contract. You get a dynamic point to pair with your generational big in the same timeline. You get another 4 years of team control. And because you grew up more cap that allows you to sign more free agents.
Next years draft class is suppose to suck. Might be the year to double down on it if a deal can be had
So when you think of a deal like this you have to remember that it’s not just a swap of scoot for vassell.
It’s also a swap of scoot plus a 20-30 million worth of free agent (s) for vassell and a few mid round draft picks

If I’m the spurs I’m not bringing back Tre Jones. They should go with a veteran point guard, specifically Fred VanVleet. Blake Wesley and Malakai Branham as your combo guards off the bench. Devonte Graham as insurance in case an injury occurs.

This team will have a great offensive identify, the issue will be on the defensive end until the younger players physically develop. This team can make it into the playoff as early as 2025. Still 1-2 pieces away from being championship contenders.
