I told the story about the amp wrong. When I received the Orange AD30, me and my friend made the Weed Dragon parody video, so we joked that the next amp should literally be called 'Weed Dragon 5000)))'. I did it. I love it! Stoner Doom is still my favorite genre of them all especially for playing. I have a Laney AOR 100 Watts Head (the amp of the Dragonaut Video). I play it clean with a fuzz pedal for my punk band but the Gain Stage on it is just unbelievable.
I love your tone and your guitar playing is phenomenal. I love that Matt Pike Sleep tone myself. I don't use amp sims when using my computer, interface, and cab sim to play through headphones or monitors either to keep quiet or recording. I always use the real deal, amps and pedals. I just never got into computer sim amps or effects due to it doesn't sound right and it is too complex to dial in the tones I want as you were talking about. Keep up the music, especially your "what if" videos.
Way back in the day, around 2003, when I lived in Wilmington NC I saw Weedeater open for ASG. Been a fan of Stoner Doom since! All I can say when describing the Weedeater show live is "WALL OF SOUND!". Great stuff.
I got into sludge cause Buzzoven played locally a lot. Those days they were like the heavy metal version of rasslin'. Seeing grudge matches between Buzzoven and Antiseen. Lots of broken beer bottles, blood, etc. Kirk said he used a DS1 into a stereo rig of a lower end mesa and a Laney
I own a quad cortex, and the way you were expressing how you felt about the recordings with Guitar Rig 5 is how I feel about the quad cortex (I still love it and it allows me to play quietly and not piss then neighbors off). I think it's also just the physical push that you can feel from an amp that just makes it all the more better. Nothing really compares to it.
Im almost finished building a Mata GT120 clone. Just have to wire the pots and the jacks. Ive done a bunch of plexi and 800's but this is my first attempt at something different than a marshall or fender.
I highly reccommend you to get your rat pedal modded for different diodes and hard/soft clipping switch btw! I recently did mine and it sounds night and day compared to what it used to sound like and what it sounds like now! having asymetrical/opamp clipping really adds to that crunchy, dynamic character
I’ve had a Mesa Studio 22. It was only sold for a few years in the mid 90s. It was a brilliant design you could make it sound sound cranked but on quiet volume. It’s so heavy I hated carrying around for gigs.
I've noticed the same thing about amp sims. They sound almost like an impulse response where it's recreating a snapshot of a sound rather than actually changing or based on what's input into them. Actual amps are too loud to use in an apartment so I prefer using amp sim pedals because they sound better to me even if they don't always recreate the actual sound of the amp that well.
Yeah man! Tube amps will *never* be replaceable in terms of sonic performance. There's just something magical about the interaction between the tubes in the preamp section, those in the power amp stages and the speakers. Only a tube amp can do certain things (as you've noticed) and you can peg that on many factors: the air being physically pushed, the heating of the tubes producing those harmonic overtones that our ears love so much and much more. Never sell that custom Matamp 'cause it's a wild and divine beast!🤘
I suggest you try it for yourself, it sounds just like it if you got the right FRFR cab, or you can also run straight into guitar speakers if you have a power amp, which I also do. Both push just as much air and sound just as good as the real things. I constantly get compliments on my tone and fellow guitarists asking after what I was using to get it. My other guitarist switched over to a ToneX even after I showed him how close you get.@@youreallygotmenow4855
Laney AOR full stack and a VHT Deliverance half stack was my setup back in the day...that was the one that made me stop chasing tones. Was nuts. I need to join your patreon and try your amp sim settings. Will they work with the new Guitar Rig 7? Or do I have to have Guitar Rig 5?
Yeah, I remember seeing you on here back in high school or before in 08-2010. I seriously think you were one of the first or at least 5 stoner/doom channels. The OG. Ive always wanted to learn this genre and haven’t yet cause of how it goes playing in rock bands growing up in east KY. Recently got another les paul, so is gonna stay in C standard. Now is the time to get high, i mean learn stoner doom guitar..
Have you thought of using something like a Fryette Power Station (the 100W one) in between the amp out and the speakers if venues need you to put the volume down? I have a 1974 Orange OR80--no way in hell would a venue allow me to have that up (no master volume so I need to crank it).
This old man is happy to hear love of the AMP. & SLEEP. (I have a funny Pike story!) Saw the VH/SLAYER Jump, immediately LIKED & SUBSCRIBED. I like yer style DUDE🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🫀👹
Very cool. Love your stuff. Im not so crazy bout your tone but then when you played a lead, it sounded awesome. Its rare to hear that someone is happy with their tone so congrats. I have also found an amp and cab with a tone that I love but my clean channel sucks. I want to try a tube screamer on a clean setting to break up the sound LITTLE
oh and also, I noticed that guitar amp sims being kinda static for stoner doom too, I was using amplitube 5 for a long time and it had the same issue. I then tried Line6's "Doom" amp plugin and it somehow has that dynamic thing going on too that I was looking for, amps ACTUALLY saturate along with volume knob and it actually sounds like you are pushing tubes hard. I was skeptical about it becouse it is from Line6 but god damn it sounds nice
What speakers were you running in the Orange Cabinet? as SpectreSoundStudios always says "The speakers is where the tone is" and there is no doubt that GT-1 is a HOTT amp
Sounds like Hank 3s tone when he played a couple shows with the singer from Earthride. Ironically, he was using Matt Pikes old amps when recording those 2 videos. They're on Hank 3s TH-cam page
Also, it's a bummer venues don't let you run your rig hard. That screaming noise that speakers make pushing high volumes is just so awesome. IIRC, Sunn o)))'s "Defeating Earth's Gravity" has that sound captured.
Nothing beats a two 4x12 and two 50w heads side by side setup, One dry, one wet. Ampsims has no chug or growl, and for me that's basicly the sound I want. I have played together with people using Kemper etc, and each time they loose in the final mix, sounding flat and lacks dynamics, while the amp setup sounds huge and powerful and basically steals the show.
My Laney 212 frfr pushes so much air. I got more growl and people constantly ask about my tone, my Soldano SLO100 playing lead guitarist gets asked less about his tone
a Matamp amp is my ultimate goal in the meantime I have a dark terror and soon an AD30 or OR15 but if there's one thing I learned from Matt Pike and Angus Young it's that to have a great its you have to push the amps (especially today with "low" power amps and attenuators) it's easier
i want a matamp really bad. i have no real use for one because i mainly record in my room, but if i needed a fat amp for live playing or rehearsals, i would love to get a matamp.
I used to watch Otusqueeky1. I dug this crust punk song you did. I cant find it anymore. I didnt even recognize you until you said that was your channel
the dsp in your pc is not all of the components that amps are using.. like orange caps and tubes, for example. it can only fake so much. very good video!
Very similar journey to stoner/doom stuff for me and no doubt many others. Get into a bit of metal with the popular mid-90s stuff, discover pantera, hear about this sideproject Down then unlock a world of wonders.

If you're asking about how to get more gain at lower volumes, the amp has two modes. One non-master volume mode, and a master volume mode. Basically you would just switch it over to master volume mode that way you have use of both of the knobs so you could turn the overall sound down by using the master volume knob, but then still be able to turn your gain up using the gain knob. If you're using the non-master volume mode then you're just adjusting the overall volume of the amp simultaneously with The Game by just using the one game knob. Also hell yeah. Ripple music and heavy psych sounds are both awesome labels. Highly recommend you check out blues funeral recordings, riding easy records, and desert records if you haven't already. That sounds like Doc Brown's "amplifier" combined with Spinal Tap's volume at 11! And still even more! Nice! 👍
I remember when you were just a teenager and doing funny videos like weed dragon 5000 lol. Cool to see you're still around.
That is some dirty, *filthy* sound. I love it! Also, dreadlock Otu isn't something I knew I needed to see until today.
I actually found you back in the Otusqueeky1 and D.R.O.N.E. days by searching for Matamp videos. Been a fan ever since

i love you channel man you have a perfect perception for tune the tone for all covers, like

I remember those stoner doom vids from the basement. Good times. That's how I found out about Otu. Keep on playing man!
Been watching your vids since the beginning and was cool to see the old clips! Cant beat the massive tube growl of AMPS!
love a good old dirty grimy distortion sound.
The Weed Dragon 5000))) video is a blast from the past.

Exactly!
Try the rotary subwoofer ;)
My new Finnish favorite band, Kaiser 🤘💯👍
There's nothing on youtube music :/
Once i played with guys who played stoner doom with Matamp V-14. I falled in love both genre and these amps.
Good to know you still around man! Matamp ❤
Here's an idea I had recently that seemed right up your alley: Heart Of Glass by Blondie, but if it was written by Rammstein
That amp sounds really fucking good, like I’m genuinely impressed
I own a quad cortex, and the way you were expressing how you felt about the recordings with Guitar Rig 5 is how I feel about the quad cortex (I still love it and it allows me to play quietly and not piss then neighbors off). It's got that cool intermodulation thing going on. Almost like a fast, shallow tremelo the boss hm-2 kind of does a similar thing sometimes.
Amazing amp man!!
I got to your channel while searching for Orange OR15 demo
The Matamp has that adult male lion full-chested grunt/growl/roar.
It's so good!.
How am I not surprised that you're a stoner doom fan? Fuck yeah.

What was Lemmy's AMP called again ? Murder One ? ..
That's how I play !! Lol I'm digging the Head and amp wish that was really real
Touring bands have switched to Kempers. The only time we use an actual amp is in studio.
Keeping it REAL DUDE !!! AWESOME
Great sound . With this amp you can play STONER 🤘🤘
I'm so old school. lol. I have a frankenstein peavey amp and a zoom 50511 pedal. Had the same set up for the last 10 years.

You have a RAT! 😁 Gave mine (turbo) on a loan to a studio session and it's still on that journey. 20 years and counting 😄
Dopesmoker has been and always will be my Stoner Magnum Opus

Solid advice 🤘🏻
What speakers are in the Matamp cab? Your live Kaiser tone is basically my dream sound

Would you tell us why you play a right handed guitar upside-down, Jimi Hendrix style, instead of a lefty?
Saw Down opening for Metallica in 2008, unbelievable gig!
Same here! Here in Kansas City. I was probably about 15 years of age. Down and the Sword opened. Good memories

The man came back with the perfect trollface in the thumbnail. Legend
I thought I had spotted you at the Weedeater gig at Kuudes last May
I feel I can get a similar brrrrrrr type of growl from the baghdad pedal. Like the throat singing from the Sarduakar priest in Dune.
I find there is just nothing like pushing air with a loud amp.
Pushing a 100 watter with fuzz to the point it feels dangerous to stand in front of the cabs is just pure bliss.
i really want sleep to make a studio version of dopesmoker v1. or maybe high on fire
I got a Green Matamp GT1 and its fuckin awesome!
Thats a sound you can lean against! Awesome
Quick question,
Where can I get your band Kaizer on Vinyl?
Cheers man!

I'd immediately start playing "Nirvana - Blew" with that sound without even thinking about it.
I have the same opinion buddy. I have like every amp sim but stopped using them since i bought real tube amp. The sound and the feel is very diferrent.
hey plz do something with Blind Dog, this was is so underrated stoner band!
Is the real amp slamming the speaker with some sub-sonic noise that's flexing the speaker cone?
Matt Pike vibes!! LMAO..I used to tour with Buzzov-en.
KAISER!!! I got 1st Sound album! Good stuff! "Amp goes BRRRRRRRRRR!" Keep up the Stoner! ..I'll never have the cash for a Matamp, I'm trying to get a hold of a Peavey Centurion, it also Dooms and Kyusses. Haha.
Gawd that thing is brutal.
Some things can never be recreated with a computer. Many amps, especially tube types are much like a good quality vinyl listening setup, impossible to digitize.
Great!
Hank Williams III bought all of Matt Pike's Green Cabs. Hey can y'all put more merch on your Kaiser bandcamp page especially that hat?
I want to hear the Madonna song Frozen song like it was written by Monolord
You are the coolest person alive
great vid!
Dude, No Savior is still my second favorite doom song after Dopesmoker!
Ohhh I inadvertently already listened to your band on the Turned To Stone split! I've been following Ripple and Heavy Psych Sounds for a while now. How do you get the volume levels down a bit out of the amps?
If you're asking about how to get more gain at lower volumes, the amp has two modes. One non-master volume mode, and a master volume mode. Basically you would just switch it over to master volume mode that way you have use of both of the knobs so you could turn the overall sound down by using the master volume knob, but then still be able to turn your gain up using the gain knob. @@SKY_DWELLER333 cheers for the detailed reply. I think the amp our guitarist has only has a gain mode and no master volume, so it's always quite loud. I was curious. I'll check out those labels!
MOAH POWAH!!!! oh come on though... BATTERIES? no no no... PORTABLE FUSION GENERATOR
The Dopesmoker tone is my all time favorite guitar tone (I still prefer the Jerusalem mix though).
I realised early today while watching Andrew Baena showcase a new amazing 8 string, and he was using an amp sim, and it sounded very polished and there was clarity and growl and low end and it's hard to fault it... but... I realised from the guitar to my earphones, the sound hasn't travelled through the actual air at any point... the whole thing was just digital appropriation of how a high gain/distorted amp behaves (minus the loveable untameable qualities)... I was looking at every axe on the wall behind him and thinking, I'd love a video where he plugs those insane instruments into a real organic actual amplifier, and records the sound of the air shifting in the room. But I suppose if everyone's stuck listening to Mp3 quality streaming with in ear headphones, whats the point in going to all the effort of trying to capture a living breathing real sound anymore?
Weed is damn well part of my life. Its not for everybody, but pairs really well with playing guitar.
I think it has to do with the amp and cab working together moving air and summoning the four headed beast that lives in the moat of outer heaven and with a sim you can’t really recreate that
What gauge strings and tuning are you using???
I guess that's why I like Deadsy.
