Back when Wrigley was Wrigley and Harry Caray was calling the games. Takes me back to being 12 years old and watching the Cubs on WGN after mowing the lawn during the Dog Days of Summer.
3 homers for the Hawk, Lee Smith in for the save, and Ryno with a great double play to end it! Harry in the booth and beer raining on Dawson's 3rd homer! It doesn't get any better! Great day to be at Wrigley! CUBS WIN!!!!
Awesome Dawson. My favorite Cub growing up. A classic act and a true Hall of Famer who played the game the right way on and off the field. Great memories. I remember this year as this was the first year that I started to follow baseball.
I got out of school at 2:00 and was home by 2:15 and doin homework to the Cubs games every game. My friend and I played the original baseball all stars on Nintendo and it didn't have names but you could name them yourself. I can name the entire lineup from memory. From Andre Dawson to Ryno, Shawon Dunston and the Shawn o meter, Luis Salazar on third, Mark Grace on 1st Mitch fucking Williams lol.... Zimmer will always be head coach to me as much as Ronald Reagan will always be my president. One day I'll figure out a way to get back to those days. 😊
This was the first Major League game I ever attended, my dad took me for my 5th birthday. I had an Andre Dawson poster on my wall for the rest of my childhood. I'll never forget this day, it is a great memory.
The 1989 Cubs were my favorite Cubs team as a kid. My second favorite is the 2016 World Series team, but the reason why the ‘89 team is my favorite is because of this guy, “Awesome” Dawson. He and Maddux were my two favorite Cubs of all time. I liked Sosa and Kerry Wood too.
The 1989 Cubs were a fun team of over achieving underdogs. Very fun year - Mark Grace, Dunston, Sandberg, Dawson, etc Dawson was great but he was so bad in the 89 playoff and left so many runners on in those close games that it was sad to see and many Cub fans were down on him - but Hawk was the real deal - all natural stud.
I wanted to be in Wrigley more than anything in life back then. Finally got to go for the first time last year and it brought back all the memories of watching that ‘87 team.
We had the Chicago channel and Atlanta Braves channel back when I was being tortured by my Home team Indians as a kid back in the 80s...Those late 80s Cubs “turn the lights on” 8/8/88 were fun to watch.
I smiled then and I smiled again watching this. I remember this team was awful but yet it was one of the seasons I remember best because of the Hawk!! Fun times.
Wow...I remember these days and Andre Dawson was my fav Cubs batter to watch and how much fun it was...And great to hear Harry Carey going crazy and singing the song... His glasses were in the Hall of Fame last time I went there. :)
Watching the hawk and hearing Harry ,takes me way back,I'm not from Chicago but we had wgn,so I grew up watching cubs, bulls, white Sox,even tho I'm a 49 er fan, diamondback fan,and suns fan ,yes I'm from Phoenix
The year I became a Cubs fan. I watched this game and at the time I didn't know the Cubs were a last place team. I was 9 at the time. The way Wrigley was packed and the excitement of the fans, you would have thought that were going for the pennant. Seeing David Martinez, Lee Smith, Leon Durham, Keith Moreland, Jerry Mumphry, Jim Sunberg, Scott Sanderson, Ed Lynch, etc. bring back great childhood memories..
I remember that game @ the 10:40 mark Dawson shakes hands with Dave Martinez. He’s now the Nationals Manager. That infielder that assisted Ryne Sandberg on the double play was Paul Noce. He was a utility player. I don’t remember what happened to him afterwards.
There's a free room around my area, that is on FB,and they give away stuff all of the time. Came across some baseball cards and went to pick them up. There were 37 Andre Dawson cards that I never had as a kid! I was 😁! All of those cards were under other cards in the photo, and I didn't realize the good ones were covered up.
Dawson nearly hit his 2nd homer in the same place that Kingman hit a homer on Kenmore Avenue in May of 1979. Kingman also hit 3 homers that game - and also against the Phillies.
Watching these highlights are bittersweet... You could *ACTUALLY* watch a game on free TV. The cost of going to a game was still affordable. Now you can't watch a game unless you have cable or some subscription package. You gotta take out a loan to take your family to a game. Brightside... Wrigley looks 1,000 times better today.
I remember that season so well. At least twice, Andre had driven in all the runs the Cubs had, so on the score graphics, they'd say Andre Dawson 5 Reds 3
Awesome play by HOF Ryne Sandberg @ 10:20 to start a DP on a ball hit by Mike Schmidt that ended the game. Then a woman runs out on the field and successfully gets an Andre Dawson autograph. lol 😆
Why are the Cubs so much more popular in Chicago than the White Sox? Is it because of their iconic stadium, while the Sox play in a dump of a ballpark?
I was kicking myself for years because I got a chance to meet Andre Dawson in '95 when I was 11 but I was mad because I wanted to meet Griffey Jr., who Dawson replaced at the last minute because Griffey got injured, so I just walked away from him.

Good old days of summer! 😁
Don't we all reminisce.
I feel the same way. Loved those 80's Cubs teams. 84 team still my favorite team.
Couldn’t have said it any better
Holy cow 🐄
3 homers for the Hawk, Lee Smith in for the save, and Ryno with a great double play to end it! Harry in the booth and beer raining on Dawson's 3rd homer! It doesn't get any better! Great day to be at Wrigley! CUBS WIN!!!!
Yup - I was there that day. The first homer almost hit me in the head as we got there late outside the park.
Awesome Dawson. My favorite Cub growing up. A classic act and a true Hall of Famer who played the game the right way on and off the field. Great memories. I remember this year as this was the first year that I started to follow baseball.
!YEAR GREAT .TOO ME

Man the good ole days. Dawson was my childhood hero! Love the hawk!
Sharon Dunston such a classic cub comedian .... miss those guys . Forever cubs !
Shawon
1987 National League MVP... was Andre Dawson. great year, great memories.
My dad was at this game, sitting next to Andre’s mom. He said she was so proud and joyful, and was hugging him when he got his runs ❤❤❤
Andre always have and will be a class act and great ball player
Harry Carey will forever be the voice of Chicago Cubs baseball. Legend.
Along with Jack Brickhouse as well ⚾
@@millypoo7713 don't forget Vince Llyod, Lou Boudreau, and Milo Hamiliton.
Harry Caray too.

Cubs 2024..Last Place in NL Central
I wanted to be in Wrigley more than anything in life back then. Finally got to go for the first time last year and it brought back all the memories of watching that ‘87 team.
Thanks for including the 7th inning stretch in the vid. Wow, this was my childhood.
We had the Chicago channel and Atlanta Braves channel back when I was being tortured by my Home team Indians as a kid back in the 80s...Those late 80s Cubs “turn the lights on” 8/8/88 were fun to watch.
That would be WGN in Chicago & WTBS in Atlanta.
Dawsom is one of my favorite players of that time. Just a really good ballplayer and even better person. Thanks for shaing
One Of my favorites . Can't beat the Hawk.
I smiled then and I smiled again watching this. I remember this team was awful but yet it was one of the seasons I remember best because of the Hawk!! Fun times.
I own all his baseball cards !! The hawk is the best ❤❤🎉
Always loved the Hawk. After Dawson hits his 3rd homer and is in the dugout at 6:45- those two kids behind him are Greg Maddux and Rafael Palmeiro.
1987 was such an exciting year in baseball. So many studs hitting bombs. That was my favorite year ever to be a baseball fan!!!!
Yep! Dawson, Eric Davis, Mark McGwire, Jose Canseco, Mike Schmidt, Jack Clark, etc.
And don't forget it's Andre "Awsome" Dawson he's a Hero!!!!⚾👑
49 Home runs named NL MVP.
Even Wade Boggs had 24 he was not a power hitter.
Definitely on WGN-TV Channel 9 with Harry Carry, Steve Stone and Dwayne Stats
Raul Green Outstanding trio. Stats was really underrated.
I learned so much about baseball listening to Steve Stone
Damn back before corporate sponsorships took over Wrigley Field not one advertisement anywhere
Watching this takes me back to better days ,brighter times ..Hawk was awesome
Dawson was an awesome player. He was the quintessential all around player. Playing on that garbage turf in Montreal killed his knees...
Wow! That got me right in the FEELS!!!! All things AWESOME!!! Harry, Hawk, he is my all time Favorite!!!!! Great
That was a crazy mix scoring on that first shot, a 3-run jack, Dave Martinez, Leon Durham and the Hawk.
That ball was smoked, a scorching line drive.
Wow...I remember these days and Andre Dawson was my fav Cubs batter to watch and how much fun it was...And great to hear Harry Carey going crazy and singing the song... His glasses were in the Hall of Fame last time I went there. :)
This and the Sandberg game I could watch over and over and over. Nothing like being a kid, and a Cubs fan in the 80's
Watching the hawk and hearing Harry ,takes me way back,I'm not from Chicago but we had wgn,so I grew up watching cubs, bulls, white Sox,even tho I'm a 49 er fan, diamondback fan,and suns fan ,yes I'm from Phoenix
Great memories from my childhood. I loved watching the cubs and Harry.
One of my fav players in the 80s abd 90s ..⚾️💪. The real deal .the hawk
One of the most iconic swings ever.
I really miss baseball

When my memory is trash in 50 years, just play me some 80's Cubs baseball and it'll all come roaring back
Thanks for including that awesome DP at the end...a great way to wrap up a fun video, from what could be my most memorable season of baseball!
Harry was a character wasn’t he? The fans loved him.
Andre Dawson was the most intimidating player I’ve ever seen in MLB. He struck fear into the hearts of pitchers…Eric Show would have told you.
Awesome Dawson 😎👍
Dawson 5 the Phillies 3 - Harry lol
What a great game! Even put away with a double play. I can’t even imagine being there that day!
As a cards fan we only had WGN growing up. Love Harey and all the nostalgia
Magic. Pure magic.
I remember that game @ the 10:40 mark Dawson shakes hands with Dave Martinez. He’s now the Nationals Manager. That infielder that assisted Ryne Sandberg on the double play was Paul Noce. He was a utility player. I don’t remember what happened to him afterwards.
at 6:45 right behind Dawson. Maddux and Palmeiro
No bat toss. No cockiness. That's how you do it.
Back when baseball was baseball. Love it.
Andre The Hawk Dawson what a awesome player
I miss the Phillies old uniforms from this era. Baseball was still great then. It's ruined nowadays. A sham. Pure BS.
I was there!! First Cub game I saw in person!!!
The true Hawk of Chicago!
Imao I’m watching this while Dawson is doing an interview at our school
Loved this guy as a kid
Love hearing Harry's voice
Nothing on the screen but baseball, forgot how good it was

No
Loved watching the hawk play
we preferred Sutter and buckner over lee Smith and Leon durham.

damn what a beast!!!
33 years ago today... what the hell happened to MLB and the people watching the game?
Just thinking about him had to look up some good stuff. He was so strong.
Good year for Dawson, but a cellar finish for the Cubs. Like the Steve Stone pun, "Hume run"!; I think a YT video of his puns would be great!
That guy was all business
A class act.
Hawk💥💎
And did you see Leon Durham and Dunston?! ..The good old days.
I MISSSSSSSSSSS HARRY!!!!!!!!! AND ANDREEEEEEEE
Andre Nolan "The Hawk" Dawson!!!!! #8!!!!
Andre in da Big Zone that day
Dawson ,dunston, grace, ryno,Allen hill, few my best players
The Hawk! 🦅
He wasn't smiling because the cubs only paid him $500k in base salary in 1987
Owner collusion was big back then
There is a Kid across the Street with the Ball..That kid is now 95 years old.
3:50: Best part of the game.
Hawk!!
The Hawk is the GOAT!
Was great hitter.
Ander Dawson is 1 man army's with 3 Home Run and all 5 RBI. Vs Philadelphia Phillips ⚾️
WHAT A AWESOME TIME FOR SPORTS WITH CHICAGO!!!..BUT HET ALWAYS REMEMBER YOU HAVE LIGHTFOOT????
Lee Smith!!!
The HAWK !!!
Awesome play by HOF Ryne Sandberg @ 10:20 to start a DP on a ball hit by Mike Schmidt that ended the game. Then a woman runs out on the field and successfully gets an Andre Dawson autograph. lol 😆
Only in the 1980s. The good ole days!
My dad got a signed ball from him my dad was working a J.C. Penney and he signed my dads ball
Is that *Comedian* *Tom* *Dreisan* (sp-?) as the bat boy?
jerry muphry was at the end of his career at that point why would you wannawanna pitch to the hawk.
Why does that second announcer sound so familiar who is that?
That's Dewayne Staats.
Steve Stone. Did color with Hawk for a while.
After Dallas Green came the Phillies and Cubs had done much business
HAWK!
Day of infamy: Andre Dawson Vs. Eric Show
Damn
True Value had to declare for bankruptcy after Andre Dawson hit 3 home runs that day! ❤️💙😂
Best comment lol
Back when men and women were basically the same size, MVPs didn't smile and the announcers were completely sh*t faced.
“At the end of 7…Dawsom: 5. The Phillies: 3”
Far as white Sox ,konerko,ordonez,Thomas,ventura,Jackson,karkovice
Why are the Cubs so much more popular in Chicago than the White Sox? Is it because of their iconic stadium, while the Sox play in a dump of a ballpark?
I was kicking myself for years because I got a chance to meet Andre Dawson in '95 when I was 11 but I was mad because I wanted to meet Griffey Jr., who Dawson replaced at the last minute because Griffey got injured, so I just walked away from him.
retire number 8
Andre Dawson was a beast
