Also the concept that men and women are less moral and the law isn't fair therefore we should not do the right thing is odd to me. I'd rather have a struggling people in a struggling society to try to the right thing in the right way and maybe fail, rather than just fail harder and never even try to make marriage work.

After one year of marriage my husband had stage 4 cancer. I took six months off my job to take care of him at home. It was very trying time and he was very nasty to me during that period. He pulled through and is ok. He then had a flesh eating bacteria and then a speech impediment and I was the one who noticed in all these issues something was off and advocated for tests and things from doctors.

The point of cross-examination isn't to ask actual questions, it's to lead the witness to give answers that support your point. Part of the idea is you force them to answer 'yes' or 'no' to complex, loaded, or misleading questions that require qualified answers ('yes, but ...'), but don't allow them to qualify those answers. Then you kinda soapbox in between. But not only was she kinda incoherent in her soapboxing, she also couldn't do the typical strategy because this isn't court and Trent was free to refuse to give her the simplistic answers that he'd have been required to give in a court, under threat of jail.

@@DirewolfMemento The issue is that people don’t understand what marriage is and it’s purpose. Matrimony was created for the protection of the mother. Mater is Latin for mother. It’s not a woman vs men battle. As Trent stated, right now there are men and women who lack virtue. This is probably due to the breakdown of the family. Most men in jail were abandoned by their fathers. We all have a father but not everyone is raised by them. Marriage is for the purpose of tying children to their parents and parents to each other. Another problem is that people are not considering virtue when they choose a spouse. They think going into marriage is going to somehow transform the person. We have seen how bad the breakdown of the family has affected children. We need more holy marriages, not less. Also, I am talking about life-long sacramental marriages not civil unions where it is permissible to divorce your spouse for any reason or no reason at all.
Check out the Ruth Institute channel on the topic of marriage. Marriage matters. We have enough children abandoned by their parents. Do you know what it’s like to show up to your dad or mom’s house and feel like it’s not your home? To see that your younger half siblings have their mom and a dad living together but you don’t? To see family pictures on the wall but none of them include your other parent?

This is what I mean though. People are out of touch. You say probably because the breakdown of the family. But I and pearl tell you the exact reason and you refuse to listen to them. The solution to the marriage crisis isn't to just "get married anyway" or ask men to take the risk and find love. (In a perfect world it would be) but men are literally screwed in divorce court. And the divorce rates with young modern women are so high and not for reasons you might think. We need to change the laws back to more traditional ways.

Stripping away any ethical duties, only leaves trades. What do I get out of this, and what do you get?
Adding back in the Christian ethic though, and modern women actually become way worse. If modern men held women to a Christian ethical standard before marriage, less than 5% would be marriageable. Meanwhile, the State doesn't care about even one feature of covenantal marriage, and has literally defined out ALL of the features Catholics would consider foundational to marriage. Add these things together and no one can possible make an argument for why anyone, especially not Catholic men, should participate in the State's marriage farce.

@@discussingsplinterlands7728 he can't help that you didn't comprehend his answer. Trent addressed that argument by saying at the very least marriage didn't make those men unhappy ergo, at the very least, marriage cannot reasonably be said to take happiness away, that's the argument. His surveys are massive, the idea that all those men were happy, handsome and successful is just ridiculous. Most men are just average like most women, they're not exceptional by definition. Multi level population level surveys with hundreds of thousands of randomized participants in a category is not a sampling bias, she just has an unproven explanation hypothesis. Even amongst divorced men, the majority go on to marry again hence they did not perceive marriage itself to be a bad deal. Pearl's only retort to this is that those men are irrational in her view.
Pearl's sampling bias is her citing her interviews as evidence for a wider phenomenon when she specifically interviews a subsection of men with a specific experience, that's a blatant sampling bias. It would be like me interviewing a bunch of people suing hospitals about their experience with doctors and acting like that was representative of the average person visiting a hospital or if I interviewed a bunch of women who were beaten by their husbands about how violent men are and used that as evidence of the average man being violent.

In an interesting way, Pearl understands sin and the depravity of the world. She actually gets that our world is fallen and it causes deep brokenness between us.
But Pearl has no idea of the antidote. She doesn’t know how Jesus Christ and the Gospel empowers us (both men and women, by the way) to live a virtuous, self-sacrificing life. This is why she gets mind-blown by descriptions of Christian marriages, where there is mutual submission and where both people die to themselves daily to make the marriage work - and the deep joy they share in that endeavor.
She lives in a world where sin is the end of the story. And that’s a dark place.

Christian marriage does not have 'mutual submission'. That is a feminist worldview, not a Christian one. List any verse in any book of the Bible that commands men to submit to their wives.
Christian marriage cannot be a thing without Christian ethics. Most modern women do not follow even the most basic of Christian sexual ethics, being virginal, nor do they follow the actual Christian marriage requirements of submitting to their husbands authority over them.

The basis of her argumentation is actually really simple. We live in a fallen world and because that is the case there will be many instances of horror stories that happen. So what is the logical response and solution to that? Hers is neither logical nor a solution.
Her solution is for all people to embrace the fallen life. To presume failure and evil and give nobody a chance. To instead shack up and when times are slightly tough abandon the other person and the kids. To instead focus on selfishness and vanity and self serving pleasures. Then in such an unstable situation people of course will choose not to conceive a child since they have no secure foundation to build a family upon. So the society will go extinct into nothingness and be forever forgotten. What a plan.
The alternative plan would to be the change you want to see in the world. Dedicate yourself to the old ways. Learn from the righteous who came before you and embrace their values. Be a leader worth following. Then you will attract the right type of person to join you in your journey. Prioritize their values and faithfulness rather than their looks. Give yourself selflessly to your new family. Don’t see failure as an option. Do what it takes and work through problems together. Have the hard conversations. Inspire the person to be their best self. Lead by example. I can go on but you get the point.
Just because the world is fallen doesn’t mean you have to be. You can be the light in the dark world. Even if you suffer the betrayal she warns can happen you can take comfort in your honouring your vows and pray for your spouse daily.
Life is hard but we will get through it rain or shine.

If many people are not willing to treat it as a sacrament, then that by definition means that many people should not get married, obviously.
If Catholics actually cared about the sacrament of marriage they would have long ago refused to participate in the State version which literally allows men to marry men.
