This has been my go to song for about 25 yrs......so many parallels. I'm still here, still love my husband as much as the day I married him 44 yrs ago. Sometimes I wish I could go back & change things but I look at our only child & our 3 grandchildren & I wouldn't change a thing. I am thankful my husband wasn't abusive , mentally or physically . This song so fits the story of Bettye and Rickys' life in "She Stays". A great book of courage, inspiration and dedication to the commitment of marriage by two awesome people who found the courage to overcome the gray days of marriage. A true love story.
When Andy Landis first shared this song with me, I exclaimed “That’s my song!” But then I realized that the song belongs to every woman who has suffered pain during a relationship. I created this particular video for the many friends of mine and Ricky who have accepted our faults and celebrated our victories over the years. Thanks to the photographers who captured these moments, especially Heidi Dewitt, for one of my favorite photos. Andy Landis taught me the meaning of friendship, devotion and commitment; she remains one of the most inspirational women I have ever known.
Thank you for letting us hear from you, a glimpse into the life of this wonderful singer. Five years ago your husband's song I'll Leave This World Loving You saved my sanity. My husband died suddenly and I wasn't handling it at all well. The song got listened to hundreds of times, then I discovered his other songs and some other singers. After a couple of years I crawled out of TH-cam and ventured outside again. Just wanted to pass this along, with thanks to you both.

Bettye Shelton - my Dear Friend Kelly read your book 20 years ago, she is my Andy! This past year my husband separated from me and then I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Kelly came to my rescue and sent me a copy of the book "She Stays". I'm not a reader, but I just finished the book and would like to say Thank You from the bottom of my heart for weathering the storm. I'm still in mine, but learning that the more I get out of the way, try and keep my little mouth shut and everyday spiritual nudges at bay, and trust God with my husband, the better off we will both be. Your trials did not go in vain, and I am certain mine will not be in vain either. Thank you again and may many, many more marriages and lives be blessed by yours, Andy's and Ricky's courage.
I miss having any new music from Rick more than I can say but I love you both, God bless both of you and thanks for all the fantastic wealth of music we do have!
when I feel like nothing is going right in my life, I listen to Ricky's songs and I feel better. I saw Ricky in concert 3 times, there is not a country singer that will ever compare to him. When Ricky sings it's from the heart and you feel like you are the only one there. I love the song, Life Turned Her That Way. Years ago my husband and I were going somewhere and this song came on, I told my husband to really listen to the words. Our marriage was on the rocks, but I Stayed and prayed and God answered my prayer. Nov. 19, 2016 we will be married 45 years.

I Grew up Listening To Ricky Van Shelton And Patty Loveless as a Young kid Late 1980s Thanks To My Mom For Playing True Country Music! Me and Mom were both in RVS Fan Club back in 1989! But Thanks To Ricky Van Shelton and Patty Loveless and Mom too They all Put The Love of True Country Music in Me and Im So Very Thankful of That!
I've always loved listening to Ricky sing. I took my wife to a concert in 1992 in Tupelo, Ms. It was Doug Stone and Ricky performing. I believe the club was called the "Western Connection". If I am not mistaken, Doug suffered a heart attack that night. I miss REAL country music like that. I have been on the road for 20 years performing classic country music and tribute shows. It's been a wild journey. One I regret is coming to an end soon. I saw Ricky at a gas station gassing up his tour bus. I wanted to introduce myself that night but out of respect, I stood down b/c I could tell he was tired. Thank you Ricky for so many great shows and great music delivered the way country music was meant to be. (You do a great Elvis too) :)
We saw Ricky with Doug at N. Tonawanda, NY. We were in Ricky's fan club, so were able to see him back stage. Doug was also good. It was a great concert, one of the many Ricky concerts that we attended.
Watched a Merle Haggard concert ,Ricky was there and sang a Merle song and flat tore it up.I STILL MISS RICKY VAN SHELTON and it was great to see him on that Merle Show.I have an old guitar with 30 years of country people autographs all over it,from Buck,Merle,Noel,Lorrety Lynn and her her daught Patsy,Goerge Jones, going to have to get Ricky to come to Visalia,Ca. and play so i can get his,if he is so inclined.Keep pickin and singing Rick, see ys someday
I have this book that Bettye Shelton & Andy Landis wrote SHE STAYS . The book is so good I bought it when it came out & have kept it and read it several times to anyone out there I truly recommend it if you like to read true stories .Thank you goes out to Bettye you are an inspiration . I saw Ricky In concert & he was and I’m sure would be just as good today as he was then ... love to hear him sing , i had bought all his cassettes & wish you could get them now on CD’s since Cassettes are a thing of the past ... To Ricky & Bettye thank you for sharing your life with us & may God truly bless you both....Come Back Ricky !!!!❤️♥️
Guess I'm a little late, but I couldn't put this book down. I'm so sorry for all ya'll had to go through, but Jesus is faithful. Beautiful song, Ricky & Andy....
Lynn, Ricky is well and doing fine! Any reports to the contrary are false and should be ignored. He stays active preparing our garden for the season. We appreciate your comment.
I bought the book "She Stays" and I read it through in one day. What a powerful testament to the graces that abound through Intercessory prayer. I cried many times and when I finished it I had to see if I could find this song here and Praise God, I did. Fame is fleeting and money is just a means to an end but the thing that counts is our relationship with the Lord. Through the dark valley, in sunshine and shadow, through tempest and calm....pray without ceasing because HE STAYS! God Bless!
I have always loved to hear Ricky Van Shelton sing and I have missed him as I grew up listening to him. I was born in 64 but my oldest brother was 18 and I was #7 out of 8 children and equal no. Of sexes g&b’s. But I really appreciate and understand why he decided to retire his wife and family was more important as it should be after God,, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit and yet I wish you would sing more but not going on the road except for rare special occasions and with your wife. I will admit it took me a while to forgive him for not continuing his singing but as I get older and then I think that the things that are harder for me now but was so much easier when my 6 children were in school and I was more agile so I can understand why he has done and now that he is older put out some songs and maybe do a few places like the Crystal Grand Theater in WI. If not I will just keep listening to what he already has out in the public domain and congratulations to you both with a question how many children do you have and are related to Blake? I wish you both the best! 🙏🙏
@@BettyeShelton-RickyVanShelton thank you for replying back to me. If you want some children I will gladly share some of ours…lol In May I will have at least 18 grandchildren and one hasn’t even had children yet but now it’s a wait and see as they are ready to start having children so like I said I will share! You seem like a wonderful person and I’ll pray for you both (as well as my husband and I) as we all travel our journey with Jesus Christ our lord and savior. God Bless!
Love you, Ricky. Saw you in a little club in Nashville where singers wait to go on stage and perform. Went to your table to talk to you. Soon after that you took off and became a great “star”. Miss you performing but understand completely. Read your book, have to “find” it and read it again. Blessings to you and your wife. 💚✝️💚

Just found Ricky's songs after hearing him on English tv Keep it Country to me he is one of the best if not The best country singers wish we could hear more of him. Just brought 2 CDs of his 42 songs and not a bad one amongst them. Love your singing Ricky x
Never heard this song until today, but I love it. Also enjoyed reading your book. Ricky's music is great - nobody sings like he does. I missed him in concert, but a friend had him sign a CD for me when he sang at the Champaign (IL) county fair years ago. It's my favorite and I love singing along in the car. I would love to see him tour again someday!
This is a lovely song and I have enjoyed listening and watching the video. No one will ever know how much it meant to me to rediscover Ricky Van Shelton's music . I am 80 years old and lost my loving husband 2 years ago. I just didn't feel I could go on......but, of course, my family wanted me here and I tried to live as normal as it is possible to after losing the love of your life. I'm sure others know what I mean when I say that I felt that part of me died with him. We didn't meet until I was 50 years old, but we had 27 awesome years together. My son bought me a good set of headphones and I have been enjoying hearing the wonderful RVS music again that my husband and I used to listen to. I pray that RVS and Bettye will have many more great years together. This last month has been the best for me in a long time. Thank you for the inspiring music. It has meant so much to me............
I’ve looked for a video, or even just vocals, of this song (with Ricky included, not just Andy) for years. Decades! So glad I finally found it! Just beautiful!
My best friend, my husband and I belonged to Ricky's fan club. I remember reading Ricky's fan letter and how it said you were in France. Then we traveled 50 miles for his canceled concert. The Lord was prompting me to pray for him. Didn't know why, at the time. So glad the Lord chose me to be a silent partner. I gave Ricky a devotional book, "Come Before Winter, " by Charles Swindoll. Do hope he enjoyed it as much as I have. God bless you both.
Thanks so much for sharing this video. This song describes my wife and our marriage to a T. She's been a true God send and she has endured and stayed with me through thick and thin. God bless you both and a true thanks to RVS for being a hero and inspiration to me since I first heard his music in 1987.
That was so beautiful, and I loved the last picture in the video of both of you together. It's wonderful to see you looking so happy together. God Bless You.
so excited find Ricky on you tube I travel from South Dakota to lots of states I stop second hand stores I found lots of his cd's and cassettes and yes I buy them.......my song is Statue Of A Fool thank you
Ricky Van & I appreciate your support of his music. He's out digging up potatoes from our garden now....he'll be bush-hogging in a bit, before the temperature gets too hot! Thanks for thinking of us!
15 years ago my husband walked out the door on our 20 year marriage. It was during our breakup that God placed your book in my hand. I had prayed and prayed for my husband and marriage but was almost ready to walk when I read your story. It gave me the determination to keep praying and waiting on God to do his work. I have wanted ti thank you for years for sharing your story because I’m sure it played a big part in me hanging in and staying. Today we have a strong marriage, two sons who are happily married and 8 amazing grandchildren. I will forever be grateful to God and to you for sharing your story.

Hi Bettye, just wanted to tell you Ricky's version of my fave song BORROWED ANGEL is imo the very best version of that song I have ever heard, better than the original.Mo pitney does a great cover too,but Ricky's is superb. God Bless you both.
I cannot stay anymore. Thirty-seven years is to long. Been through so much. Good song but I can't do it anymore. I want free from the poor treatment. Too much. I'm sorry, this is a song of restoration or FAITH. I've stayed time after time and I too ended up making two poor decision. I don't want to do that again. I need to be loved. Or,just to be completely alone from here on. No more getting hit,I cannot do that anymore.

Nancy, I'm so glad you found it too! It is a beautiful song, isn't it! Thank you for your comment.
It’s good that both of you are there fore each other God Bless
I’ve never seen this video before today! What a classic country song, sung by talented singers‼️ NO one sings like RICKY❣️❣️❣️🤗
Wow. Never heard it before, but it sure does tell all about my life the past 18 years.
Yes....I think a lot of women relate to this song.
Thank you so much for your note and your support. I love the idea of being a "silent partner". Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Ricky has always been my favorite country singer...I met him one year and was truly star struck. I listen to his music still.....
Ricky appreciate your commenting and your support of his music, Suzanne.
Thanks so much for sharing this video. This song describes my wife and our marriage to a T. She's been a true God send and she has endured and stayed with me through thick and thin. God bless you both and a true thanks to RVS for being a hero and inspiration to me since I first heard his music in 1987.
I'm glad that she stayed Jackie McAdsms Amen.

Andy Landis is a great songwriter & performer.

Beautiful 💓
