My mom's a teacher and she tells me stories all the time! Teaching is such an underappreciated job and I want to say thank you for becoming one! You are clearly so passionate about teaching and the well-being of your students. I love how you are educating people through such funny, wholesome content!
Retired high school teacher here. By the time I left, we had subs who fell asleep all period (and peed themselves), read the paper all period... Nobody ever followed the lesson plans anymore, they didn't even try. Then there was the guy who - no matter what the lesson plan was for each class - would recite his supposed achievements. He was so very proud of himself, and at the least narcissistic if not suffering some insane grandiosity. He would brag on himself all period. Every period. Every. single. day. People don't believe half the things I've told them about the public schools, but it is all (horrifically) true.
That’s not good. They locked all of the toilets in mine apart from 6 toilets (not the rooms with bathrooms, just stalls.) downstairs, so I used a teachers one since I was desperate and I even have a pass that allows me to go to the bathroom when I want for medical or something. I needed up getting locked in. I’ve never wanted to kms so badly before. One time a CHILD was in the elevator with a pass for it too, but the school was doing construction or whatever so they closed the elevator down. My friend heard the person scream. They where STUCK in the ELEVATOR BECAUSE OF THE SCHOOL.
Oh yes, and that one kid that yells “OBJECTION!” When my science teacher gives us rules or is scolding him, each time she goes “overruled, now shut up.”
Because our education system is fucking dog shit and they dont deserve to get paid for what the great teachers in the past did and deserved. Our education is so terrible and ALL these "teachers" (paycheck collectors) think about is getting paid some insanely high wage while people are yanking their kids out of schools at record rates because the schools are failure that only care about social justice and not education. When they fix our education system then they'll deserve more. And wouldnt any job that allows teachers to do their jobs deserve even more than the teachers? Lol

Omg, “there’s a sub shortage” one of my teachers subs said that to my class. She was completely clueless, had no idea what was going on and then said that she would be back because the district didn’t have enough subs. Edit: I’m normally very patient with subs since they are there for the day or two days, but her saying “The district won’t get rid of me, they have a sub shortage” just rubbed me the wrong way.
It’s a tough spot to be in. My district has been short for three or four years now. I teach middle school, and we used to have to use our planning period to cover absent teachers’ classes for free. Thankfully, last year the district started paying $25 per class period you watched.
Then you do the job lol There is a sub shortage and be nice to the subs because usually they are clueless ... sometimes they don’t know the school, class, or the kids... they’re just doing the best they can and trying to help out. It doesn’t help when people are mean.
Well Most sub are there for a day . Teachers are happy to see them . Students treat them like crap and sometimes you can arrive and there very little information provided too you . It’s really on the school and teacher to provide information thats easy to follow . Like there a sub shortage because their no respect for subs because people think their unqualified adults when most are college educated. Or in between jobs
Most subs don't get respected by the students because they don't respect the students or the teachers. I graduated high-school last year and there was only one substitute that wasn't respected in my school and that is because she was a long term sub who didn't grade fairly or treat the students with respect. Half of the students who had her walked out of an honors class and just went to administration(who did nothing) or guidance(who just rolled their eyes and marked the kids as at guidance). I've had substitutes who was a retired English teacher get put into an AP European history and admit they had zero clue what was going on and then hand the lesson plan and attendance off to a student and that sub was more respected than some of the teachers. She respected the students even though she watched majority of them grow up compared to the long term sub who told the class to work in groups and then told them to shut up.
My school district had a sub (like she worked for the district as a sub) who was a complete mess and was still working there when I graduated. She'd put whole classes in detention for the stupidest things (they always got dropped but seriously?) like "refusing" to fill out the worksheet. Except the video was about barrel making and the worksheet was about cars. Sent a kid to the nurse for "brain damage" when he fell off his stool reaching for a pencil that rolled off the table (the stools and tables were extremely not level, falling off was not an uncommon occurrence). Refusing to let kids go to the nurse. Telling us we were all failures. Giving you detention if you showed up late when you had a pass. It was insane.
This exact thing happened at my middle school. There was this frail old lady who was subbing for our science class. She wasn’t the sweetest sub, and tended to send people out in the halls for no reason. Well one day, a group of boys were talking during the study guide. What she didn’t understand was that they were trying to help each other (which was totally allowed) but apparently it upset this sub, so she sent AN ENTIRE GROUP OF BOYS into the science closet. It was a very very small room. Bigger than the closet in this video, but still, you could only comfortably fit two smaller sized people in this room. There were 5 eighth grade boys shoved inside of the closet. Mind you, they were all in wrestling, so they were pretty buff kids. She LOCKED them in for about 10-20 minutes. Eventually word got around, and every teacher knew. They all thought the kids were blowing it out of proportion though. The sub still subs there to this day, and nothing was done.
Lesbian here, and even though I never used a “closet” (I told pretty much anyone and plaster lesbian pride stickers on everything), my girlfriend (bi) is still in the closet. She’s worried about her mom and the homophobes in grade eight. The interesting thing is that she asked me to make bi pride stickers for her (I happily obliged) and they are currently in her closet, literally.

The teacher found out near the end of class and wanted to know who did it, but no one stepped forward. So then she held all the BOYS back and threatened to give us all detention unless someone took the credit for doing it. Eventually, the person revealed themselves, and I was about 5 minutes late to my next class.
I hate when teachers hold everyone back like that! I had a teacher my senior year who would try to make us stay after the final bell to clean up (she wouldn’t ask us sooner for whatever reason). One person would actually stay to help every time, but the rest of us would just leave. Fortunately there were two doors in our classroom and only one teacher, so she couldn’t block us in!
This is giving me flashbacks to the time in year 7 when my form class were all in our form room cos it was raining (normally this was really not allowed cos hyperactive children stuck in a classroom is not a good combo) and one kid said something that lets just say was inappropriate but he didn't know and everyone else did and we were all laughing abd he got annoyed until someone told him what it meant and he cried and hid in a big cupboard in the back of the classroom. Everyone was trying to get him out cos we didn't want to get in trouble but just at that moment our head of year (we were all absolutely terrified of him btw) walked in and just said "please dont tell me theres a child in the cupboard" There was a child in thd cupboard. Eh whatever, I spent all of junior high doing my math classes in a 3×5 closet next to the kilm because I was a "nuisance" in the class room (you put one banana in the ceiling fan on a dare and suddenly your a nuisance). Oddly enough I worked better in that environment, ended up being the class I got my best marks in.

Eh whatever, I spent all of junior high doing my math classes in a 3×5 closet next to the kilm because I was a "nuisance" in the class room (you put one banana in the ceiling fan on a dare and suddenly your a nuisance). Oddly enough I worked better in that environment, ended up being the class I got my best marks in.
