Thank you. It worked perfectly for me. Initially I could find tabs for top. But once I lowered it a few inches I could feel tthe piece on the top to skide towards middle to release window. After that it released easily. Big improvement on my old windows. Thanks for the video.
Very transparent u- tube on how to clean Anderson double hung windows. I can clean my Anderson windows myself and avoid the expense of hiring someone. These windows are great and pay for themselves in free maintenance!! Great company! Anthony Joseph Lucchese
Same!! and can find nothing that tells how to clean top window. sticker on top of inside frame is impossible to figure out. Says to depress jamb liner and I have no clue what that means.

Take a one inch piece of wood, cut it to length to collapse the sides, make sure its long enough so you have to wedge it but not too long. Mine length is 26 and 3/8. Works so easy you'll be mad at yourself for not thinking of it.
Our house came with these windows. Like in this video they are easy to clean, but unlike this video they are impossible to latch. It takes three people: one to push hard on the upper piece, one to push hard on the down piece, and one to push out the bottom and hopefully latch it. All four of our Andersen windows have this problem. Because of this we don't open them until Spring. But alas, a visitor didn't know and it is going down to -10F tonight and they leak air when not latched. So I came to this video to see if there is a trick to latching these windows I don't know, but there isn't.
Followup to above comment. It is two years later and we need to latch our windows because it is going down into the teens at night. The latch broke when we tried to get it closed last year and I ordered two replacement latches from Andersen. It used to be the latches were made of cheap pot metal, but now they are made of trivial plastic. I was barely able to get the tip of the new plastic one latched last fall, but it broke today being weak plastic. So I put the second plastic one in and it snapped trying to close it. So now we have serious drafts until I can find a latching solution that doesn't immediately break.
Followup. The primary flaw in these windows, besides being hard to close, is the wood isn't flat and level. It has a decorative curve that requires use of a proprietary Andersen curved latch rather than a standard level flat latch. Now that we can only get weak plastic replacement latches that immediately break, existing owners are in a bind if their metal latch ever breaks. I was finally able to get a working solution. When my latch first broke over a year ago I ordered the wrong replacement off ebay. It was older and made of heavy duty metal but didn't work with the curve of our windows. I went to Home Depot and got a thin quarter circle piece of hardwood molding and used that above the curve and underneath the latch so it would work. It doesn't look great but will keep us warm when the temperature goes below 0.
Followup. After dealing with the frustration of poorly engineered Andersen latches, I won't consider buying any Andersen windows until they begin selling metal latches that can successfully latch our existing Andersen windows. If Andersen continues to sell overpriced repair parts that break instead of working, then that indicates you won't be able to fix broken Andersen windows that are over a decade old. We have even discussed replacing our Andersen windows with ones that can keep out the cold mountain air, but we don't want to spend the money.
Anderson windows allow cold air to blow through its seals especially on the bottom where there’s a beveled edge . (With window locked down). We put tape across the bottom of the window to stop drafts . 2 yr old install by Anderson . Not a very tight design. For the price those windows should totally seal out wind!

I guess my window are different. I only have the tab that goes up and down. I don't onow how to get top window down
If you can't latch your windows to keep out cold drafts, it doesn't matter how easy it is to clean the windows.
Atual procedure starts at 0:50.
There are no upper level tabs to slide that allow the upper window to come forward for cleaning
.
I don’t have the tilt latch shown on the upper window how can I tilt the top window to clean???

We don't have those things at the top. We have the thing that slides up but not the latches. So now what

My windows scratch the side trim when we clean them. It’s from the fold down motion.

Wash assist won’t click in place

I am not happy with these windows at all
And video is not helpful- my windows still dirty out side because I can’t open it
Very disappointed
Thx.
There are many similar projects in woodglut's plans.
This the dumbest possible design.
Why?
