Are all of you assuming these comments are from adults? These are most likely comments by some teenagers. Real adults have better things to do with their time. I still remember the early days of the internet, before everyone could afford to get on it. Things were so civil back then.
Thanks for making that video Lilly, that was great advice from a TH-cam guru. Ironically I filmed something in the same vein today at the cabin, about competition in general and the ethical responsibility to fight fair, whether it's on TH-cam or elsewhere. New TH-camrs need to understand that this is a meritocracy and that growth and success is contingent on originality, creativity and quality, not on attacking successful channels or aligning with youtube celebrities. You can collaborate with the biggest and best, but it won't matter if you don't earn it yourself. I'm no expert, but that's my observation as a newcomer. We'll have to get on a podcast together in the near future to discuss this in more detail. All the best!
My Self Reliance I like your style. Fair is a good way to be. It is funny how many creators treat TH-cam as a competition with each other. I'm a tiny channel compared to you folks but I take a lot of time shouting out channels even smaller than mine. Trolls also hit us little guys, I've had some nasty ones but at the end of the day I try to brush them off.
It's insane to me to hear what you have been through. I'm 62 years old and have studied survival since I was 19. I find your videos helpful and informative. Keep up the good work.
I was shocked to see the level of hate messages you get, Lilly. It's just unbelievable and it makes me very sad that you have to deal with that, but it's great that these things don't affect you so much anymore, and like you said, even negative comments are profit (something I didn't know). What I wanted to say is that I've been an occasional viewer for a few years now, having subscribed recently, and that from now on I'll make it a point to leave a comment thanking you for every single video I watch. Nathan's MRE The problem with your system is that many people who read through the comment section would get the worst of the youtube commentors in the first few reads. This unfortunately reflects on the host, and some readers will become offended and switch off mentally and possibly unsub, all to comments, not the host.
It has to be a really "special " comment to get pinned to the top of the list lol, not just any comment will get that privilege , if I was Lilly I would of pinned that rape comment
I agree completely ... but as I pointed out to Lilly (comment above), I think it was a minor mistake to include their names without blurring them out. If attention is what they crave, she just gave it to them. Lilly rocks and we all love/respect her.
The more success you have the more haters you will get. Good to hear you take them professionally: Ignore the stupid comments and report the threatening ones.
Every new tv can post a TH-cam video. It’s a really elitist thing to be saying people shouldn’t be making vids. The average person now has the chance to be seen too. Pompous rich snobs. The generation who invented TH-cam wants EVERYONE to participate. It’s not for a chosen few. It’s written in the name, and you still think it means just for you exclusively. Unwise ego maniacs.
Sorry to hear about these problems. I've gone through some of these comment issues but no where near as bad as you deal with. I've had to come to the conclusion that trolls just feed off the attention and I try to simply ignore them. As you grow larger these things will happen. Stay strong!

Don't feed the trolls, you just attract more, now that might sound great at times to get more activity on your channel, but do realize that the more attention you give them, the more you will alienate the people you are actually doing this for, and barring maybe a few loyal fans the more you give trolls attention the more they will ruin the atmosphere and thus drive people away. See trolls as a nice extra comment, but head them no attention, put your attention towards the people that bring positivity to your channel. And lastly, as somebody that's generally critical about things, do understand the difference between (constructive) criticism and trolling or hating; that difference can generally be understood if you understand the pyramid of disagreement/discussion ( komincents.files.wordpress.com/2009/12/disagreement-hierarchy.jpg ). Trolls operate on the lower end, critics on the higher end...

One of these days there will probabbly be a war with superweapons . I have heard about some that the u.s. has. Russia thinks that it is ahead of the u.s. the u.d. had hypersonic weapons and planes long, long, ago. And the government got ahold of Tesla's stuff long ago . I have heard that the tunguska explosion in Siberia was notva meteorite , but one of Tesla's experiments that was off a little. And that was equal to at least Hiroshima . Btw a high school kid back in the early 70s created a rocket that's engine ran from nuclear. From what he said when it took off from area 51 the people watching from the base thought it blew up. Well it didn't. Apparently norad tracked it going over 40.000 mph, afterwards the people that gave him everything he wanted to build with took him inside and went underground and showed him stuff much better than what he had. I deeply respect your drive to make quality content Lilly. It's great that you are willing to publicly call out the shameful behavior you have to put up with. It calls attention to the fact that there are a lot of butt-hurt boys (let's not call them men) that can't stand to see a strong female demonstrate highly competent outdoor skills. I come mainly from the cycling world and even there you can see a lot of guys can't stand to see a woman excel at a higher level than them - they have to instantly race any woman that happens to pass them where they wouldn't otherwise do this if it was a guy passing them. Making outdoor videos is also therapy for me. Can't sit too much, need to walk, fighting prostate precancer with CBD, so right there with ya! Haven't made any money with DR J Studio LLC, but it's something to do. And Survival Lilly videos are the Standard of Quality.

Personally I think what your doing is amazing. Sometimes you do something and you feel like your the only one in the world that "gets it" I went into the forest and I lived there for 63 days. I needed to clean and clear my head after I got back from my 2nd tour in Iraq. My buddy is doing the same thing right now. It is cool to see a woman unafraid doing the same thing. Going out into the woods and sharing their experiences with the rest of us folks. I didn't film my stay in the woods and I had the park rangers there if I needed them and the understood why I was there and why. I think that your videos give people good ideas and help with going out and finding peace in this mad and crazy world. Now that I'm back living in society and around people I miss being in the woods and someday I hope to return to it and stay. I'm more myself there and I don't hurt inside as much as I sometimes do. God bless you and keep your spirit pure and free. You are doing a wonderful and great thing. The more they troll you, the more you know you are succeeding. Never engage them, ALWAYS report them.. and never, ever back down. The actual words they say mean nothing. The trolls goal is to make you quit, and they'll say anything to make it happen. All you have to do to 'win' is not quit. Every new video you put out is a win for you, and a thorn in the troll's side. You have way more fans than haters, and you make TH-cam a better place every time you post.
There are laws, but they are hard to enforce, because the net is pretty much anonymous. What I don't understand is why YT doesn't enforce their own TOS, and fix the reporting system. These troll accounts very rarely get shut down, even though they blatantly violate the YT TOS. I know it's a big job, with all the harassment that goes on on YT, but they should at least have a way to deal with them while the harassment investigation is pending. Right now if you flag a comment as harassment, you hit refresh, and the comment is right back up.

Michael Reed. I know what you mean. Might be a good idea to specify parasites 'cause there are people which or bloodsuckers and then there are real parasites that attach humans from literally live off the host.
nagualero, I agree! I think people either forget or don't care that they are talking to/about a real person. Like the fact that it is online makes it not real. However, there are crude/mean/socially unacceptable people in the population, so the larger your reach is, the more people of that sort will see your video. It is truly a shame that some people have no more morals/self control than that, and I think it is shocking as well. I think male TH-camrs get harassment as well, but it tends to express differently. An attractive, capable woman will get a lot of sexually related comments. An unattractive woman will get comments on the way she looks. If you are overweight, you will get called lazy, disgusting, etc. If you are a capable man, you get people calling you fake, a poser, threatening to assault you. Almost everyone gets called a sellout or a shill if they share a product or service they like. BUT...you also get a lot of people that appreciate your work and efforts. It would be great if only the good people showed up to a video, but since it is an open website, you get good and bad people roughly proportionally to the population and the bad ones are emboldened because they don't have to look you in the face to say it or you cannot tie it back to them personally. Since more men tend to look at outdoorsy videos, you will get more male viewers so the sexual stuff is worse for women because they get more bad men. Look at it this way: If vulgar man are only 2% of the viewing population, if you get 1000 views, 20 will be from them. If 10% of them comment (for easy math), you get 2 comments from the vulgar men (I know women can be nasty too, but for the sake of this, let stick with men). 2 vulgar comments out of a thousand people who watch is not a large ratio, but if you have to read it each day, it can get tiring, even if you get 98 positive comments to go with them. There are trash people in real life and some of them watch TH-cam. Unfortunately, it is not only the creators that can reach a wider audience because of the internet. Sad, but there it is. I think some of those messages are pretty shocking to me that someone would actually: 1) think that way 2)not reject that thought if it popped into their head and 3) l think it is okay to let the thought out into the world for others to see. But the fact that it is shocking hopefully means it is not representative of most people. I take comfort in that at least.
Lilly, I paused the video and read some of the comments. I can't believe people would write these things. I am not a professional survivalist but I can hold my own camping and building just about anything. To be honest, I think you do a great job and produce very interesting content; and I learn some cool things from your videos. The most important thing is, you really seem to be passionate about the outdoors, camping and survival. Keep it up Lilly, you are "super awesome" and doing great!

Lilly, you have quality content. All of your videos are very well done, are authentic and show the hard work you put into your channel. Offering armchair advice or ideas are a good thing. It shows your videos draw in and engage your audience. But haters will always hate....that is what fuels them. You build....they destroy. Back in tribal days they would have been forced to run the gauntlet then banished from the tribe or maybe served up as dinner. :P They have nothing to offer....you do. Survival Lilly, you're a class act.. no question. Its always sad when I hear about the absolute nonsense that female TH-camrs go through. I've been on TH-cam since 2009 but only recently really started to work with the platform. I agree with you, I love it but "haters gonna hate". For me, I'm also a professional content creator and marketer for other businesses and I think I have a different outlook. I don't think I've ever really taken things personal. I do content creation because I can combine my love for canoes and wilderness tripping with my love for photography and film. Insanely, I only opted in to monetization this year. I just like to make and share content. TH-cam is a great platform, but all creators should just focus on doing what they love and sharing it. What happens from there will happen. I may only have 11k subs, but I still love sharing the stories of my life. Thanks for sharing yours.
Lilly, I love your channel. I'm 63, had been heavily into survival and prepping, but after a heart attack in 2014, my life drastically changed. The thing is that I know that getting back to nature, safely, could conceivably turn my health back around. Unfortunately, finances are too tight to move in that direction. Anyway, I learn stuff from watching you, and find the information compelling and top quality. I do have one question, why did you put the fill connections on your rain catchment system near the bottom of each barrel? It seems to make more sense to connect at the top so that as they fill, the overflow goes into the next container... Just my observation. Stay safe and healthy. And remember, broad heads on a few arrows, or even field tips, can discourage anyone that gives you any trouble... and maybe a class in Brazilian Ju Jitsu?... just a thought. Tschuss, yeah I know, you're Austrian, not German... lol.

I'm glad you've got the thick skin you need to have to deal with the lame trolls that plague so many social sites these days. Are all of you assuming these comments are from adults? These are most likely comments by some teenagers. Real adults have better things to do with their time. I still remember the early days of the internet, before everyone could afford to get on it. Things were so civil back then.

Thanks for making that video Lilly, that was great advice from a TH-cam guru. Ironically I filmed something in the same vein today at the cabin, about competition in general and the ethical responsibility to fight fair, whether it's on TH-cam or elsewhere. New TH-camrs need to understand that this is a meritocracy and that growth and success is contingent on originality, creativity and quality, not on attacking successful channels or aligning with youtube celebrities. You can collaborate with the biggest and best, but it won't matter if you don't earn it yourself. I'm no expert, but that's my observation as a newcomer. We'll have to get on a podcast together in the near future to discuss this in more detail. All the best!

My Self Reliance I like your style. Fair is a good way to be. It is funny how many creators treat TH-cam as a competition with each other. I'm a tiny channel compared to you folks but I take a lot of time shouting out channels even smaller than mine. Trolls also hit us little guys, I've had some nasty ones but at the end of the day I try to brush them off.
It's insane to me to hear what you have been through. I'm 62 years old and have studied survival since I was 19. I find your videos helpful and informative. Keep up the good work.

I was shocked to see the level of hate messages you get, Lilly. It's just unbelievable and it makes me very sad that you have to deal with that, but it's great that these things don't affect you so much anymore, and like you said, even negative comments are profit (something I didn't know).
What I wanted to say is that I've been an occasional viewer for a few years now, having subscribed recently, and that from now on I'll make it a point to leave a comment thanking you for every single video I watch. I've also disabled my TH-cam adblocker for the first time ever and am considering doing it in general, to support the channels I like to watch.

This unfortunately reflects on the host, and some readers will become offended and switch off mentally and possibly unsub, all to comments, not the host.

Sorry to hear about these problems. I've gone through some of these comment issues but no where near as bad as you deal with. I've had to come to the conclusion that trolls just feed off the attention and I try to simply ignore them. As you grow larger these things will happen. Stay strong!

6. I also recommend you inform and prepare your family, friends, and others. It is best to initially suggest people have an emergency kit... for any emergency such as flood, earthquake, tornado, hurricane, loss of electricity due to a winter storm. See trolls as a nice extra comment, but head them no attention, put your attention towards the people that bring positivity to your channel. And lastly, as somebody that's generally critical about things, do understand the difference between (constructive) criticism and trolling or hating; that difference can generally be understood if you understand the pyramid of disagreement/discussion ( komincents.files.wordpress.com/2009/12/disagreement-hierarchy.jpg ). Trolls operate on the lower end, critics on the higher end...

One of these days there will probabbly be a war with superweapons . I have heard about some that the u.s. has. Russia thinks that it is ahead of the u.s. the u.d. had hypersonic weapons and planes long, long, ago. And the government got ahold of Tesla's stuff long ago . I have heard that the tunguska explosion in Siberia was notva meteorite , but one of Tesla's experiments that was off a little. And that was equal to at least Hiroshima . Btw a high school kid back in the early 70s created a rocket that's engine ran from nuclear. From what he said when it took off from area 51 the people watching from the base thought it blew up. Well it didn't. Apparently norad tracked it going over 40.000 mph, afterwards the people that gave him everything he wanted to build with took him inside and went underground and showed him stuff much better than what he had. And that was in the late 60s early 70s

I deeply respect your drive to make quality content Lilly. It's great that you are willing to publicly call out the shameful behavior you have to put up with. It calls attention to the fact that there are a lot of butt-hurt boys (let's not call them men) that can't stand to see a strong female demonstrate highly competent outdoor skills. I come mainly from the cycling world and even there you can see a lot of guys can't stand to see a woman excel at a higher level than them - they have to instantly race any woman that happens to pass them where they wouldn't otherwise do this if it was a guy passing them. Personally I think what your doing is amazing. Sometimes you do something and you feel like your the only one in the world that "gets it" I went into the forest and I lived there for 63 days. I needed to clean and clear my head after I got back from my 2nd tour in Iraq. My buddy is doing the same thing right now. It is cool to see a woman unafraid doing the same thing. Going out into the woods and sharing their experiences with the rest of us folks. I didn't film my stay in the woods and I had the park rangers there if I needed them and the understood why I was there and why. I think that your videos give people good ideas and help with going out and finding peace in this mad and crazy world. Now that I'm back living in society and around people I miss being in the woods and someday I hope to return to it and stay. I'm more myself there and I don't hurt inside as much as I sometimes do. God bless you and keep your spirit pure and free. You are doing a wonderful and great thing. My daughter and I truly enjoy your videos and hope you continue making them and sharing them with us folks that like what your doing. The woods are freedom and hope.

The more they troll you, the more you know you are succeeding. Never engage them, ALWAYS report them.. and never, ever back down.
The actual words they say mean nothing. The trolls goal is to make you quit, and they'll say anything to make it happen. All you have to do to 'win' is not quit. Every new video you put out is a win for you, and a thorn in the troll's side.
You have way more fans than haters, and you make TH-cam a better place every time you post.

There are laws, but they are hard to enforce, because the net is pretty much anonymous.
What I don't understand is why YT doesn't enforce their own TOS, and fix the reporting system. These troll accounts very rarely get shut down, even though they blatantly violate the YT TOS. I know it's a big job, with all the harassment that goes on on YT, but they should at least have a way to deal with them while the harassment investigation is pending. Right now if you flag a comment as harassment, you hit refresh, and the comment is right back up.

I think people either forget or don't care that they are talking to/about a real person. Like the fact that it is online makes it not real. However, there are crude/mean/socially unacceptable people in the population, so the larger your reach is, the more people of that sort will see your video. It is truly a shame that some people have no more morals/self control than that, and I think it is shocking as well. I think male TH-camrs get harassment as well, but it tends to express differently. An attractive, capable woman will get a lot of sexually related comments. An unattractive woman will get comments on the way she looks. If you are overweight, you will get called lazy, disgusting, etc. If you are a capable man, you get people calling you fake, a poser, threatening to assault you. Almost everyone gets called a sellout or a shill if they share a product or service they like. BUT...you also get a lot of people that appreciate your work and efforts.
It would be great if only the good people showed up to a video, but since it is an open website, you get good and bad people roughly proportionally to the population and the bad ones are emboldened because they don't have to look you in the face to say it or you cannot tie it back to them personally. Since more men tend to look at outdoorsy videos, you will get more male viewers so the sexual stuff is worse for women because they get more bad men. Look at it this way: If vulgar man are only 2% of the viewing population, if you get 1000 views, 20 will be from them. If 10% of them comment (for easy math), you get 2 comments from the vulgar men (I know women can be nasty too, but for the sake of this, let stick with men). 2 vulgar comments out of a thousand people who watch is not a large ratio, but if you have to read it each day, it can get tiring, even if you get 98 positive comments to go with them.
There are trash people in real life and some of them watch TH-cam. Unfortunately, it is not only the creators that can reach a wider audience because of the internet. Sad, but there it is. I think some of those messages are pretty shocking to me that someone would actually: 1) think that way 2)not reject that thought if it popped into their head and 3) l think it is okay to let the thought out into the world for others to see. But the fact that it is shocking hopefully means it is not representative of most people. I take comfort in that at least.

Lilly, I paused the video and read some of the comments. I can't believe people would write these things. I am not a professional survivalist but I can hold my own camping and building just about anything. To be honest, I think you do a great job and produce very interesting content; and I learn some cool things from your videos. The most important thing is, you really seem to be passionate about the outdoors, camping and survival. Keep it up Lilly, you are "super awesome" and doing great!

Lilly, you have quality content. All of your videos are very well done, are authentic and show the hard work you put into your channel. Offering armchair advice or ideas are a good thing. It shows your videos draw in and engage your audience. But haters will always hate....that is what fuels them. You build....they destroy. Back in tribal days they would have been forced to run the gauntlet then banished from the tribe or maybe served up as dinner. :P They have nothing to offer....you do. Head up, chest out and keep on keeping on.

Survival Lilly, you're a class act.. no question. Its always sad when I hear about the absolute nonsense that female TH-camrs go through. I've been on TH-cam since 2009 but only recently really started to work with the platform. I agree with you, I love it but "haters gonna hate". For me, I'm also a professional content creator and marketer for other businesses and I think I have a different outlook. I don't think I've ever really taken things personal. I do content creation because I can combine my love for canoes and wilderness tripping with my love for photography and film. Insanely, I only opted in to monetization this year. I just like to make and share content. TH-cam is a great platform, but all creators should just focus on doing what they love and sharing it. What happens from there will happen. I may only have 11k subs, but I still love sharing the stories of my life.

Lilly, I love your channel. I'm 63, had been heavily into survival and prepping, but after a heart attack in 2014, my life drastically changed. The thing is that I know that getting back to nature, safely, could conceivably turn my health back around. Unfortunately, finances are too tight to move in that direction.
Anyway, I learn stuff from watching you, and find the information compelling and top quality.
I do have one question, why did you put the fill connections on your rain catchment system near the bottom of each barrel? It seems to make more sense to connect at the top so that as they fill, the overflow goes into the next container... Just my observation. Stay safe and healthy. And remember, broad heads on a few arrows, or even field tips, can discourage anyone that gives you any trouble... and maybe a class in Brazilian Ju Jitsu?... just a thought. Tschuss, yeah I know, you're Austrian, not German... lol.

I'm not a regular viewer on your channel, but I've always enjoyed the content that I do watch. I'm glad you've got the thick skin you need to have to deal with the lame trolls that plague so many social sites these days. And you're right - there are indeed some really sick and twisted people out there. Downright sad is what it is.
