    I just put on the same foam with the same issue. It has compressed a bit as you noted. I really dig the painted windo frames, and may have to go back and do that! Thanks for taking the time to put these together!

      Thanks for the comment! Nice to hear your seal is the same. Just keep cranking the wing nuts every few days, but maybe I'll just get something more flexable at lowes. I think being sicker is a good idea but it needs to be mushier it's too firm.

      @@AdventuresInParadise I’ll be sailing down in St Joseph’s Sound Dec 4-6. Not with my Catalina 22, but likely my sailing outrigger canoe. If weather is nice I’ll be camping on one of the spoil islands with some buddies. So if you see a wooden canoe flying a lateen rig off a Sunfish with the “Moana” spiral symbol in red give me a wave!

    I agree the foam needs time to compress.
    Can't wait to see the new boat. I just bought a 1980 O'Day 23-2, I'm coming from a Capital Yachts Neptune 16.

      The foam has now compressed and i didn't realize it until I was watching our last video and can see the pop top is now sitting back down where it was before.

    Donovan loved this video and he also said he got the idea for all lines lead aft on you guys and did it to our boat last time we were home from deployment. The only question we have is how to bring the job back down with the line, but keep it on the boat... when we bring it down, the wind immediately flapped it right into the salt water.

      When bringing the jib down with a downhaul, first release the jib sheets, then pull the jib sheet that pulls the jib windward as far as you can, this keeps the whole jib on the deck. The best advice I can give is to practice raising and lowering the sails at the dock (when there is no wind). Have the sails completely prepared and have a checklist you look at prior to leaving the dock. Also, the boom kicker or topping lift is a must-have so you don't have to try to raise and lower the main while that backstay cable is on the boom. With something to support the boom, it can swing a little and release the tension as it slides in the track. This also allows you to lower the main when you're not headed directly into the wind, which gives you the wiggle room you need when things aren't prefect.

      @@AdventuresInParadise great info. Will try it this weekend when we are home for a few days and get it all on video for a future episode! Thanks!

    Solved a problem for me with the pop top seal, I couldn't figure out where the water was coming from after rain storms. That turned out to be the answer.

    just put new seal on my cat 22 weather striping i used was 3/8 round black from catalina direct was going to put on pop-top but was not sure of placement so put it on lip of deck seems to work really well front corners show a little light but have not put clamps back on yet in time it may compress more

    That answers a question for me. I saw the pop-top on Rokkit Rod's International Folkboat _Misty_ and my first thought was how much does it leak when the inevitable breaking wave splashes over it. Water always finds a way!

    • @AdventuresInParadise
      @AdventuresInParadise  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oddly, ours only leaked from rain because there was no way I would be out there in waves big enough to crash over the top in a 22' boat. That boat was "not enough" for sailing out in the Gulf unless it was a perfect day.

    Appreciate your detailed videos, have learned a lot from you. Unfortunately did not follow your boat advice and bought a Venture 21 with rusted delaminated cast iron swing keel. The boatyard where I keep it now wants around two grand to fix it, so looking like a bad investment now.

      Wow... well it's good info, thanks for sharing that. Too bad you can't find another one somewhere, but if it's heavy and not local.... well.

    Would it be possible to tie the end of the tiller tamer lines to the stanchions instead of drilling and attaching the cam cleats?

    • @AdventuresInParadise
      @AdventuresInParadise  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would work, but you need to be able to release them quickly if needed and when the day is over, to stow the tiller out of the way I would wrap the lines and pack them into the tiller cover. The angle of the lines is somewhat important also.

  • @gigglecompass1
    @gigglecompass1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    With the tiller tamer: the cam cleats (or whatever you used), did you just drill directly into the boat? Or bolts with nuts underneath. Thx! Subscribed!

    • @AdventuresInParadise
      @AdventuresInParadise  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Drilled small holes and the used adhesive sealant (4200?) on the holes. it's all side load so it is fine like that. Thanks!

    Seal didn't work. Bleep it, I'm buying a new boat. Lol. It'll be interesting to see what you consider when buying. I'd like to get a sailboat one day.

    What is your opinion of the tiller tamer? We are looking at getting one for our 26ft Pearson.

    • @AdventuresInParadise
      @AdventuresInParadise  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like it. It allows you to make corrections instead of constantly steering or putting pressure on the tiller, and allows some time to adjust a line or grab a drink without the need for somebody else to hold the tiller. It also calms the tiller and gives a more solid feel.

      I know the boat is small and
      you probaly have a small battery, why not put an raymarine st 1000 tiller pilot,
      it stears the boat for you,
      and gives you an extera free hand.
      I have one for my boat and its fantastic. I maybe selling my boat next year as well. too small for a liveaboard.
      Merry Christmas.
