Because a cars sale value brand new isnt an indicator of its resale market value? Resale market value depends on the markets value for the car which is impacted by multiple factors the brand new price is cost of development, manufacture, delivery and the fact its new so as seen in most cases a car costs significantly more brand new than it does second hand

    • @TooFly357

Pre rona depreciation was represented in sales price for some vehicles. Compare an Acccord to a Chevy Malibu. Same class of vehicle that can be similarly equipt for the same MSRP, but no one was paying MSRP for the Malibu, and people were paying close to MSRP for the Accord. The resale value of the Malibu is terrible, but the Accord's is awesome.
Also, look at Toyota Tacoma vs Chevy Colorado again pre rona.
Compare new sale prices of Jaguar XJ's to S Classes and 7 Series' they are lower and the resale value is lower.
When dealing with resale value, it should be looked at vs. other vehicles in its class. Not as a whole.
I agree car pricing makes no sense.

Just because the cars are leased doesn't mean they're thrashed 😂 the issue is poor preventative maintenance and accidents. Also, the reason for the depreciation is because of the short warranty and the fact that after about a year, something electronic starts to go bad. Out of warranty, trying to fix any of the electronic issues can be done costs tends of thousands, just so your active seat bolsters work properly. Then you have the cost of any work, parts, etc

Logic serves that a purchase to this degree should ONLY be calculated on reliability and statistical data ALONE. Even if you’re the mechanic who can fix a car, it would still serve you well to purchase a car from a historically noted reliable brand, and NOTHING else. But people don’t think that way. There are multiple reasons. The leasing means there's a lot of them on the market. They are also used extensively for car service/livery business. Expensive repairs out of warranty is just another factor that drags down value after supply/demand has done its job.

From experience driving a classic 1994 C280 myself as my first car in my life, unless you want to bankrupt yourself or if you’re really that rich for the newer Benz cars, stick to the old ones to offset that upfront cost. The maintenance on my C280, just for parts like the water pump alone, costed more than a pump that goes on a domestic or Japanese branded vehicle, despite the cheap upfront cost for the car itself. Consider your financial capability first before committing to a German luxury car.

I love getting a car that once had an MSRP of $140k for $40k. It’s still the same car, same trinkets, but for a heavy discount which I’m not opposed to. I just recently got such a deal and I’m very happy.

German engineering is a joke nowadays.Im not saying it as a "hater", but the Germans lost the plot.Mercedes used to make stuff that was meant to last and engineering complicated things to be simpler.
It's the exact opposite these days and it makes their brand look cheap AF.If you drive around in most 2000's Mercs, you come of as foolish poor man trying to look rich.Yet the 70's,80's and even early 90's cars still on the road don't carry that stigma.
I'm sorry, but Toyota and Honda evolved to the stage where they can create sporty, exciting cars that can have reliability.Mercedes should be able to do the same.

@@biznesmen9229 I've never seen an A class here in the states. Those early to mid 2000 Chrysler-Mercedes era E-class the S class models( suspension destroyed), I've seen SO MANY times in poorer Neighborhoods. All the people I knew over the years who bought them(usually used) couldn't afford to maintain them, and even if they were drivable, they knew that would still fail inspection due to constant CEL codes.
One of my neighbors swears by Mercedes though and that's the ONLY car she will buy. However, she is loaded with cash so she can afford to always take her leased car in for the scheduled maintenance until it's time for her to upgrade to the next model.

Most people are scared of the maintenance and running cost like premium fuel. Plus if you can't afford it new it won't make sense to buy it used unless it's not getting driven much. For me every car depreciates so it doesn't really matter when its got nearly 200k miles in 5-7 years. Even the most notorious value holders drop when you get to that point since they're hard to get financing and most don't want that kind of mileage due to reliability and more repairs.

This is pure fact. I have a 2003 S55 AMG that has depreciated to less than $10,000 with under 100,000 miles while my 2005 Subaru WRX STi still holds a value of at least $20,000. German vehicles are nice to drive, but not nice to own.

Just get the old Mercs, those cars prove what Mercedes actually stood for back then.
1990's W140 S-Class, Also known as "Der Kathedral" appreciated as one of the last S-class series ever made to be a true S-Class, especially the 600SEL
The 1980's W126 S-Class. To me and many others, still the one and only, true and best S-class ever made. (I own two of these.)
    The 1980's W124's (1986 300D in my possession)
    The 1970's W123's
    The early 70's and late 60's 300SEL 6.3.
The W100 Mercedes-Benz 600, the flagship model for 20 years.
    The 300SL Gullwing and Roadster.
    and everything before.
Those models all made Mercedes, Mercedes.
The modern ones? Not even close.
All the way up until like 89, Mercedes truly did make "The best or nothing."

Bought Used GLC63 for 78k with 40k km, after 2,5 years sold for 70k with 80k km.
Maintenance is expensive, like 2300 usd for Service B and 1300 for Service A.
"Lost" like 10k-11k total in 2,5 years of owning of 500 HP. The secret is not buying new

For that same depreciation value of that vehicle...
    I'll buy a 1989 190E Baby Benz.
    With a throttle body.
    Single carb.
    Straight 5.
    For $2000.
    Turn around.
    And...
    But a 1986 Vixen 21' Motor Home
    With a BMW Diesel V6.
    4 Speed Manual.
Still have enough for insurance and registration. As Classic Vehicles.
    Put gas in their tanks.
Have $50 left to stock up my Vixen
For a week long bug out.
    With my mountain bike.
    Any questions?
