How a bite into a dragon fruit got me sold into farming this highly sought nutrient rich fruit!

  • When filming this story I thought to myself, why are we so thrilled about technology and I still can’t download food?#FieldMusings ! The closest I can get is drooling over videos & pictures, but learning how to grow food that promises to be a reason for the longevity of oriental people, and having it thrive in our soils, that’s the closest I can get to being thrilled by technology! Meet Anthony, he has mastered growing the dragon fruit and is working towards making it one of Kenya’s leading cash crops. Other than it’s health benefits, the returns will make you download that castle you have been building from the air to actually living in one!

Hi Mr. Mugambi. I'm a South Africa and must admit that from sometime now I've been very much impressed by Kenyans, a specially in the field of agriculture. You seem to be doing well both academically and practically in this field and you make proud as an African. Keep it up.

    - Cut the 2 sides off, so you can lay it flat on the desk.
    - Make 3 incisions on the fruit so it makes thirds.
    - Put your finger between the fruit and the skin of the fruit and the skin goes off.

You can try mixing varieties by cross-breeding. Imagine if you could produce one that makes a self-pollinating variety that fruits big yellow ones with a very sweet taste and higher antioxidants. Like how bananas got bread so many times, we now have so many varieties, each having a taste unique to itself.
