I’m in the middle of doing a presentation about Civil Partnership and Marriage as part of my final year law degree. This video makes it so much clearer to understand.

Can my mom get the house when my dad dies if they were never married at all?

That will depend if the house was in joint names and if your dad left her in the will.

What happens if you decide to have a civil partnership but then decide you both want to be married at a later time?

Hi I’m a registrar :) if you are a same sex couple who had no other option than to form a CP, you have the option to convert this to a marriage. If you are an opposite sex couple who had both the option to enter into a CP or a marriage, you would have to dissolve your CP first then marry :)
