Very informative as always. I truly enjoy how you pass your knowledge and listen to the questions people ask of you. I can honestly say you have taught me so much through your videos that you have given me the confidence and ability to work on my own motorcycle. That is confidence cashed in. I have done more than I have thought that I could. Granted I have more tools than I thought I would have needed but tools treated right last forever as does your pass of knowledge. Thank You.
Thank you my friend, that is very kind of you - am glad we could help in some small way, it's always good to pick up the basics and take care of your bike yourself... all the very bets, D&Px
Hi Del & Pen, smashing upgrade (like the idea of painting the cover to match the rest and the gold mesh would finish it off) ,the Triumph looks fantastic, Pen you sound much better, so hopefully you are back up to full strength, keep safe you two & have a great weekend ❤️
A nice Farkle..so many ways to do the fasteners...motones supplied ones...your old ones plus a short one...a cut down and tapped old one...etc etc.. In the end its what pleases the eye ....i would imagine that cover is easy to keep clean being that the front sprocket is in view and will be cleaned more than with it hidden and not just at changing times like mine...its always fun digging out the old crud.. Much love to you both 💟💟
Thank you most kindly good Sir, we must get together and arrange that meet, be good to meet you here in the garage for a Q&A at least ! Ride safe buddy, chat soon, Del
Very good tips on placing the bike on the table lift. My 2014 Harley Davidson Sportster "48" would bottom out and drag where the top of the ramp met the table. I made a 6 ft. wooden ramp to decrease the incline and it works well. I have a 1979 Triumph Bonneville T-140E I purchased new . It's still stock and runs great. It still gets a few looks here in the land of Harley's and Indians. Tom from Arizona, USA
Hi Tom, glad to hear you sussed the ramp mod, believe it or not, the Scrambler hits the ramp too, but only just, a little 2x4 under the end of the ramp usually covers it... a little interesting point for you, if you ever wanted to shorten that 6ft ramp you use, is get a curved ramp, something about 4ft long, which might be a bit easier to have in the garage, and have gentle curve in it, maybe 6" higher in the middle than at each end, that will load it on without grounding, as the curve lifts the rear wheel quicker than a flat ramp... but you've got yours, so this was just a thought if you wanted a shorter one, or maybe needed to renew it .... have a great week , must be lovely a sunny there buddy...!
Hi Del, that's a nice bit of kit and job well done mate. Penny your bike look's the business with all the upgraded parts. Hope the paint for the Turbo goes well with mackie the master. I'm sure it will. Have a great weekend.
I like that a lot better than the other sprocket cover they did as it covers the aluminium edge. I also never bought one before as I always thought that it would let excess lube get over the inside of your boot/jeans. I was going to get a second hand factory one and have a pop at drilling a pattern in it. I still might have a go at that 1st. This one would look great with matching black paint.I like it with the chain guard, shows off the gold chain.
Yeah, good plan there Kev, there must be plenty out there for sale second hand, and you can get real creative with it, ive seen a few nice examples drilled out with mesh etc.... Good luck with it buddy.. send us a pic..!
Hi Del, great tips on the bench safety, there's a clip somewhere of a BMW toppling off a bench - horrific! The Scrambler looks well tidy too. I have a few practical and safety tips for using ratchet straps (used to use them all the time when I was truck driving) which I can share with you one day...
Hi Martin, good to hear from you mate - and I would value those tips on ratchets straps, always appreciate safety advice... and when you're down this way again we will get you in the garage and we can do a Q&A for sure... but don't worry you won't need make up as we can edit out wrinkles in post production... we do it all time lol ! All the very best, D&Px
I know what you mean buddy, but there's a trick, don't go to the guy on the parts counter cos he's the guy who can't take a piss without a part number, I ask the mecahnic in the workshop as he happened to be passing through the showroom, he went and found me one and it was £2 in their tea money fund !
that sprocket looks the part Del, aesthetically pleasing to the eye indeed. Hang on Del, you said at the end of the video, "if you want to treat your best girl". That would suggest you have more than one girl, does it not? Ha, only kidding mate, top quality vid as usual. Hope you and the Penstar are fine and dandy!
Hi there Dai, so good to hear from you - hope all is well with you both - and Penny is all the girls any man could ever want... hope you've got the Aprilia back on track now, keep us posted buddy - love to both, take care, catch ya soon, D&Px
As I have said before subtlety is sometimes best. A minor change for a better look. I've taken the sprocket cover off altogether and left it all open it also makes it easier to change. I've done that because my front sprocket threw it's fastener off at about 120mph, it scared the life out of me the sprocket kept to I did however manage to safely stop after fighting with it for a couple of hundred meters or so but it was scary. So I learned to do bolt checks from then on lol
Ayup Ray , sounds like a hairy moment... glad you survived it, and spent nearly 13hrs in the garage today on the paintwork, and will probably most of tomorrow before it's finished - awesome fun !
Hey buddy, thank you so much for your kind words, jus a curious question if I may, and off topic I know, but your username, Handmade Planters, is that what you do?? Make planters?? Or am I way off?? We need a couple and if you do, I would be really chuffed to use someone who views our channel to make them... do you have a website maybe?? Cheers, Del
Hi Matey, ask me anything you wish :-) Like you it is not my main job but yes I do make planters and garden furniture as a hobby. www.handmadeplanters.co.uk Also have a FB page if you want to look it up facebook.com/foldingbench/ I message you using a different email so will use my planters email so you know who I am :-)
Moonfleet41 yes beautiful day - even with the False alarm missile threat. Saw your license plates on the wall. Do you have a Florida or Hawaii plate yet.? If not would love .to send you one for your wall.
Hi Del, just a quick question about where I could get the T-bar torque wrench you were using? Great informative videos by the way and so look forward to the new ones that are coming.
Hi James, Im getting a few people take a shine to that now.. here is a link to what it is from the main Wiha site... www.wiha.com/en/produkte/torque-tools/torque-screwdriver-with-t-handle-set-torquevario-s-t-plus-assorted-variably-adjustable-torque-limit-11-pcs-in-box-29234.html But rather than buy it from them ,and pay that price, i got mine from these guys:- www.reconelectrical.co.uk/ Contact them direct, and tell them we sent you...they'll probably have to order it in, but it'll be a lot cheaper mate..! Hope that helps, good luck.. Del.
I was interested too, here you go: www.wiha.com/en/produkte/torque-tools/torque-screwdriver-with-t-handle-set-torquevario-s-t-plus-assorted-variably-adjustable-torque-limit-11-pcs-in-box-29234.html
Great video as always! Any update on the rear suspension? YSS vs TEC that is. Really looking forward to that since I'm in the market for an upgrade. Thanks!
Hi Oskar, Yes i meant to mention that, sorry... the new YSS shocks are really good, the main point being the finer adjustability, we have been able ot set them up over the last few months so they are perfect for what she needs... also the finish is still like brand new, so all i can say is so far so good.... i dont think any shock absorber will deteriorate or show wear in just a few months. so time will tell..... thanks for youe support.. take care.. Del.
Hi D&P , that part looks mint , hope you go forward with the gold gauze idea or even silver so it blends with the existing colour scheme ( and basically because I want to see how you attach it ) am guessing a bit of araldite or similar ? Think the grey works well and has been done that way so that it can be left alone or painted as you suggested so that it can be colour coordinated to any colour scheme but my money is on the tough paint satin black ?? Either way , I agree with several of the other subscribers who have commented on the condition of Penny's bike , it's a credit to both of you , beautifully kept and maintained, also how you picked up on keeping the O E M bolts . Keep it up mate , we're all enjoying and learning at the same time time . C
Thanks so much Charlie, yes Penny loves her bike, it doesn't need to get wet as she only uses it for fun ride on days off.. and she's chosen all the parts so she has it her way, and thats important with anything you cherish aye... I like the silver mesh idea, that would work as there's a lot more silver then gold in the accents, all the engine bolts for starters.. may give that a look both ways and see what she likes best.. i think what you said about araldite may work, but its a bit permanent of you ever want to change the mesh (it could get a bit caked up with chain lube.. maybe some silicone or hot glue would be better as it peals off clean.... ill have a little test stick of a few options and go with the best result... thanks again buddy.. all the best.. Del.
Its one of these buddy... www.wiha.com/en/produkte/torque-tools/torque-screwdriver-with-t-handle-set-torquevario-s-t-plus-assorted-variably-adjustable-torque-limit-11-pcs-in-box-29234.html If you;re in the UK i have a supplier who can get you one a fair bit cheaper too if you're like..?
Moonfleet41 Sorry, mate. In the U.S. But I definitely wanna get one for my toolbox. It would really come in handy for all those inch pound level bolts that have to be torque’d in my neck of the woods. Luckily I make sure to get all my torque wrenches in Newton Meters as well. I’ll go thru WIha for sure. Thanks, Del. Cheers! Oh and by the way, Wild Turkey Whiskey is what you’re supposed to shoot down when working on bikes and paint. Hahahahaha
I love Wild Turkey, Jim Beam, and JD Fire... but was dancing with the Captain Morgan just to honour our brother Mackie who came to do the paint.. . The torque T-bar is rated on Nm as its German, they dont really use imperial measure over there..lol, but it measures from 5Nm to 14Nm so perfect for all the casing screws on the motor.. if you cant get any joy buying one direct over there, then just let me know buddy, and ill hook you up with my buddy over here who will ship you one over no problem... Take care.. Del.
Hi mate, you can repurpose your old one with a grinder and a bit of care, maybe some big holes with a mole cutter, and some mesh in behind, it'd look pretty much the same, but without the ridges... glad you still got the bike bruv !
Hi Del. If chance is given, could you please have a tutorial on how to reset the service wrench on the new Triumph bikes. I have a Scrambler 2017 and asked the dealer if he could do it and yes he could, but would charge me the full price of a service. I've already serviced my bike according to your video and it works beautiful and it pains me to pay 450 pounds (equivalent to prices in Sweden) to have that stupid wrench removed. Thank you.
g0fvt yes but you said that there is a way and the only way I've found is to return it to the dealer to do so and that is on the Triumph forums so therefore I'm really interested in a link if you can provide as that can help me a lot. Thanks
Yes I saw it and contact Eric at Irk which confirmed my fear that he also heard that the 2017 models ECU, specifically the Bonneville which the Scrambler is based on, Triumph has locked the ECU so you need something called Dealertool. I might get that but it would be fantastic to use the app. I know he's ripping me off, I've already contacted Triumph and made some references to Swedish law which basically prohibits Triumph to have such a reminder when you have purchased a product. I'm awaiting their reply. Thank you for you help, I sincerely appreciate it.
No buddy, it's far worse than that it's actually burn damage from grinding sparks, I got a little careless recently and there are 4 burnt pin dots on the lens - so the camera has to go away next week for a new lens and a full service with a fresh guarantee... and as it's a top end camera, it's a good job it's repairable... I'll be making a lens protection glass for when it comes back !
Hi Del thats a cracking looking part. although i do have to agree with you and it could do with being painted, just a bit too grey looking. cool video again and as always looking forward tot he next one. Even though im currently without a bike. decided a car would be better and more practical for a while as im starting of in OZ again. cant carry a fridge on a bike hahaha. Maybe i could go for a Honking V8 ;-)
hey mate.. .Yeah, it does need paint, but thats a quick ten minute job as its already in a dusty primer finish, just a de-grease and get squirting... you hit on my second favourite passion there.. V8's.. and over there you have the best options in the world, you just HAVE to get a Holden Ute, and make lots of noise and mess... plus, later when you get a bike, you can take it places in the back for longer trips away..(a long trip over here is 400 miles... but thats a run to the shops for you blokes right..lol! )
Moonfleet41 haha yeah 400 miles is a drive to Melbourne lol (I'm in western Sydney) and a Holden ute would be my ultimate 👍 I've always been a Holden guy not ford! Well if that's what I shoot for I will send through some pics 👍
(P) the begining with lift make me ask one question what I wanted ask already for longer time. In one of your first Street fighter videos you show how to jack up the bike. I watched it several times already but it make me feel insecure anyway. It would be cool for me if you can next time speak more about it or in general how to Jack up bike what don't have frame under engine. Good luck with paint job
Hi Morgan, I think I remember the video you mention, it was when I was taking the forks out of the bike to do the headstock... and I did show it up close, using blocks of wood to rest on the strongest parts of the engine and spread the weight, I thought I had covered it in the video, but no worries at all, next time I have cause to do that, I will show it very clearly... thank you for your feedback my friend... have a great weekend!
Del, cake driven waves man, cake driven waves - 'Pen, if I lighten your bike, can we bin the diet?' - feeble, take the pain man. TBH, for 90 quid I think I'd like the correct colour finish & a spare short hex bolt to allow a choice of fasteners; (come on Motone, a little thought costs pennies) - a small sachet of black RTV for the redundant bottom hole would be a nice touch too. (plus a pneumatic cake stand, a fridge full of beer, and this th-cam.com/video/MH9FyLsfDzw/w-d-xo.html : )
Yeah, good feedback for them, and this is a brand new product, they are listening, and watching these comments, and I agree, I don't think they need to supply 4 allen screws, I think all they need to supply is actually 2 of the shorter reach M6 bolts as per OEM, one for the top of the case, one for the redundant hole at the bottom as a blanker, utilise the 3 factory bolts, as I did and they're actually saving money... and I agree, the finish doesn't match, but it soon will once I get to it !
Aha, another ASMR lynching by 'Butch Bungee & The Rattle-can Kid' eh, - & how many shades of black? Good wheeze re the bolts too; bin that grubscrew - without a whiff of copperslip the dissimilar metals will stick like dung to a duvet - & having a spare bolt 'hidden in plain sight' could be useful on a dark night too : )
Don't use Instagram buddy, I think that account is something they set up to encourage to open the account, but we're aware it has a bit of support already... what are you trying to achieve from your Bonneville mate??
Moonfleet41 ow I see. Bit more horsepower, be able to have a bit more usability on modern day roads. It's an 05 T100, was thinking new jets, I have a tec 2-1 and will do air filter but I've read the cams are a good idea, but I am slightly apprehensive. Have you had any experience with sending them of to be reground? Thanks so much for getting back to me. You've helped both me and my father with home builds.
Hi Sam... im still skeptical about changing cams, its not the whole job... swapping cams is part of a program of top end tuning on bike motors, usually to access more noticeable power, you need to do a full stage one upgrade.. gas flow, big valves, lumpy cams, and then maybe bigger pistons etc etc... but its hellish expensive when you get to that level... just changing for some slightly heftier cams will make it "different", but not much more real horsepower on the road...it may feel brisker, and you may enjoy that.. but you need to offset that against the cost.. so first step is to check out the cost by pricing up a few tuning shops who can do it for you....remember you'll need to refuel it after and that all adds cost.. and once again, you wont really gain a lot even then they're only 53BHP at best, and its hard to make that double....which is still even then only the same power as a 1200 Bandit.!... have you ridden a 1200 Bonneville yet..?
Moonfleet41 this is true. British customs do a stage one kit for 800 dollars but you have to send yours off to America..... Nope. I've found a company in the UK called Kent cams, who specialises in cam work. They can Polish / grind them for around £200 for the pair. I have to just whip them out (skeptical on the whipping part). Dyno jet do a carb stage one kit for £100, I figured that covers the fuel increase needed. So I didn't think it to be that bad....? Unsure about upsetting other engines parts, adding stress etc. I have a multistrada 1200 as my main toy, the bonnie is my simple fun, would just be nice to have a bit more umph when travelling around, when I'm not flashing around Brighton :) I like the simplicity of the carb bonneville.
well another great vid from you but i have to be honest i prefer the original dont like the openness of the motone one and NINETY QUID! much to much money for a cosmetic piece still no accounting for someone else`s taste just not for me.
You're not wrong, it is a lot of money mate... but i think once its painted in and the mesh added, it'll look right.. (I wonder how much the factory one costs, should have checked while i was at the dealer.. it bet its a lot more then 90 quid..lol)
Hi Del, looks good! Standard Triumph part is £75.93 inc vat The upgrade looks much better though. Buy quality, buy once! Hope Penny is feeling better soon. ATB
Looks nicer but for £90 I would expect a factory colour match. And as said above it looks too open especially as your leg is close. Flapping waterproofs etc.
Very informative as always. I truly enjoy how you pass your knowledge and listen to the questions people ask of you. I can honestly say you have taught me so much through your videos that you have given me the confidence and ability to work on my own motorcycle. That is confidence cashed in. You too Geoff, thanks for your kind words mate... enjoy your weekend buddy... all the bets.. D&P.

Agree with all that buddy - a front sprocket cover packed with sand and dried chain lube is not a clever thing... peace out brother ! D&Px
I am loving how clean the mighty trumpet looks - it looks showroom fresh! Love that bike.....oh and nice vid!

Been looking to get one in shiny chrome for mine. But the exchange rate and P&P to Australia hurts.
Hi mate, you can repurpose your old one with a grinder and a bit of care, maybe some big holes with a mole cutter, and some mesh in behind, it'd look pretty much the same, but without the ridges... glad you still got the bike bruv !
Moonfleet41 still got a few years to pay it off yet. Should Skype again soon been awhile.
wow great quality item .....
That sounds fair exchange to me
Cool piece, putting it on the list. I like the shocks you are running. Care to share the brand, where to get?
Thanks mate.. they are YSS G-Series shocks, and we got them from Wemoto.com !
@@Moonfleet41 Awesome. Thanks for the tip.
(P) Looks great! When I painted mine the tough black was a good match to factory finish as that does stand out as a little grey.
Thanks mate, thats good info, ill be doing it in a couple of weeks.. take care aye.. D&Px
Thank you.
g0fvt can you provide the link. I don't It's possible as I've searched everywhere but can't find it.
g0fvt Thank you so much.
g0fvt yes but you said that there is a way and the only way I've found is to return it to the dealer to do so and that is on the Triumph forums so therefore I'm really interested in a link if you can provide as that can help me a lot.
Thank you. Nothing to be sorry about at all, I appreciate your help.
Some dirt on the lense you use filming into the garage - in the beginning right on the watch in the background
(P) Looks great...nice addition to Ms Pitstop's steed!!
Thanks Doug, a little treat for her and important to look after the boss aye?!
Moonfleet41 Quite important indeed! 😉👌🏼
still waiting for the Triumph "carb cover" replacement video ; )
Hi Del/Penny it would look good with chrome mesh as to gold mesh I've way good vid
Well what can I say ?? Looks nice shedding weight is always good but that is a touch expensive !! Xmas came early for Penny
They are a bit steep mate, but still a lot less than a factory one...lol
I saw a penny down the bingo the other day she was hoping for a handbag !!!!
Ha ha, now thats the best comment this week.. thanks buddy.
Good wheeze re the bolts too; bin that grubscrew - without a whiff of copperslip the dissimilar metals will stick like dung to a duvet - & having a spare bolt 'hidden in plain sight' could be useful on a dark night too : )
Hi mate, love your channel. Have messaged you on instagram. Would love to know your thoughts on upgrading cams for my triumph bonneville. Thanks
I have a multistrada 1200 as my main toy, the bonnie is my simple fun, would just be nice to have a bit more umph when travelling around, when I'm not flashing around Brighton :)
I like the simplicity of the carb bonneville.
That sounds like a damn good deal from Kent cams... have you read or heard any opinions on the results.. maybe on Triumph Rat etc. ...?
I Dont like that hiden bolt.
That's the option they give you in the pack.. but you could buy another OEM short bolt like the one i did, and use that instead..
well another great vid from you but i have to be honest i prefer the original dont like the openness of the motone one and NINETY QUID! much to much money for a cosmetic piece still no accounting for someone else`s taste just not for me.
ATB
Yeah, as Pyro said, the Triumph one around £111, and Penny really deserved a treat, she's not been at all well ... made her smile
Looks nicer but for £90 I would expect a factory colour match. And as said above it looks too open especially as your leg is close. Flapping waterproofs etc.
Can't argue with either point there mate..! i still like to wear my flares now and again im so old..!..lol
