This is the future . I've been in so many bands that we sounded great together , but we all ended up hating each other and couldn't stand being in the same room to play gigs. That's every band I was ever in . Could be me? Through the miracle of electronics i have preloaded bass ( that I play) and drums into separate tracks outputting bass signal to 750 watt bass amp/ drums routed to large pa along with my vocals. Guitar straight to marshall.I am glad I lived this long!!!!!!
Hey brother just picked up a Headrush looper🙌🏼 and the Headrush backpack fits everything even my other pedals. Always a pleasure listening to you bro🤙🏼
Wow Carl! Thank you for your input! You are a reference for all looping artists out there! Really liked the idea of using a volume pedal at the end of the chain to control the main volume! It’s going to be very useful to me! Greetings from Spain!
Carl, my brotha! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! 15 years ago I cried for a year straight after my very unique and old "S.S. Stewart" acoustic guitar, which I found in used guitar store, was murdered one night when I was staying at my parents' house on a cold evening, put the guitar in it's case on the other side of the bed I was sleeping in, not realizing that there was a heat register there, melting all of the glue in the guitar, which I discovered to my horror the next morning when I woke...As soon as I watched this video, and heard you strum that Maton EMD6...the freakin' hair on the back of my neck stood straight up...It's sounds EXACTLY like my dead guitar! I immediately went onto Reverb, found one, bought it, and soon it will be mine!!! So pumped!!! Thank you!!! I originally found this video because I was researching more info on my new Headrush Looperboard (also such a fun new toy), that I just traded my old school Boss RC-50, and RC-3 peddles in for. I have been using a similar live set ups to yours for my performances these past years, but am completely revamping my whole set up this year (just pre-ordered the Neural DSP Quad Cortex, too), so I appreciate the inspiration and the exposure to the Maton! Great music, btw! (My stuff, if you're interested: www.gunsgunsmusic.com). Cheers, Carl!
sorry to hear about the SS mate:( but stoked you ordered a Maton! you'll absolutely love it! Thanks for checking out the channel! you'll love the Headrush also! bit of a spaceship but tameable:)
Thanks for a great video. Very interesting and exciting. I would just like to ask for a clarification about your rig: What is the bit black unit with a big screen, and some 12 buttons, and mopstly blue lights, that the pedals are sitting on and that sits just behind the irig BlueButton? I don't think you have mentioned it . thanks
Carl - love this, love your attitude and love that you can sing. I have watched so many looping artists that can play like a beast but just don't have the vocal chops. Love it :) I am just getting into to looping after being a live artist for 20 years... a bit late I know, but I am excited and seeing your setup makes me wonder how deep into the rabbit hole I will go haha. Cheers bud - Victoria, Ballarat muso here
Oh…my…god! I was following you a couple years ago, then a move and COVID disrupted my life. You have totally upped your game man. So tasty. Such a great rig and awesome tones. Thanks so much for sharing this. Glad to see you’re still at it. Peace.
I've had the Headrush looper and the RC300 and actually decided to go with the RC300. I absolutely love that in the rhythm section the boss has the Just Hi-Hat option as rhythm and I used that as a live click. When I begin smacking my guitar to make kick and snare sounds it all glue's together really nicely. It is so easy because musically it matches every song so I'm not scared of the audience hearing it meaning no weird routing issues to deal with trying to hide the click like on the headrush, and all of my loops are super in time every single show. I use in ears in my rock band and don't really like using them doing singer/songwriter stuff. A Side note it is time for Company's to start paying you for this because I just went out and bought a OC 5 and the Wompler pedal after watching these vids.
thanks for the comment mate! I love this - so many people overlook the RC300 cus its an older pedal, but its very stable and fantastic to work with. Honestly the Headrush and even the RC600 are quite high end / professional series loopers and you really need to be specific with settings in these to get what you want out of them. hahaha - ONE day Ill get a sponsorship off them hopefully!
Nice intro and explanation. Being a beginner, I use more primitive toys, but would like to upgrade, and your vid gave me some ideas. You just won a subscriber.
Huge fan of your work my man. We would love to have you here one day. In any case if you do to please let me know!! i’d be more than happy to tour you around!!
thanks for the video. one question: how do you make the wampler pedal sound good to you without going through an amplifier? because I understand that an overdrive without an amplifier sounds terrible 😅
Thanks for the comment! It’s a series of things, but basically a parametric EQ before and after the overdrive pedal. It’s the only way I’ve found to make it sound good.
Very good man! I’d like to know about your load out… I’m a minimalist, and you seem to have alot of gear. How are you gigging with all that? Much love ❤️
Thanks for a bunch of inspirational videos. I “steal” a lot of ideas from you. I am about to figure out how to configure HX Effects. I Would really like if you at some point revealed some details on how you have set it up and maybe why the Wampler Tumnus is preferred over the built in OD in HX? While I’m waiting I can put my plywood pedalboard together. 😅 Again, you’re videos about gear and setup are pure gold 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 Combined with the musical talent it’s just awesome. 🤘🤘
great video.. hi. Carl.. could you say few words about. RC 10r and OC-5.? And why ksm8! I tried it yesterday vs my Sennheiser e 945 and it was not a game changer.. Could you poste more content for beginners with looping I often struggle to use it live because it distract me from the audience. I bought rc10 r just for that reason but during Sommer and live giving in Germany I used it none.. by the way great channel great performance and great content.
Hey brother. I'm a huge fan. I really appreciate what you do and your creativity. Love ur rig. I play in several bands but I want to venture out in the looping scene with a latino flavor. I Would like to know as of any suggestions for getting set up. I'm thinking of trecommend? Or the new looper X and a headrush mx 5 I want to loop guitar, keys, bass and my wife on percussion and voice. What do you recomend?
Thanks mate! the problem with going zero to 100 on a looping rig is knowing how you want your workflow to be, and also working out routing / signal chain / and IO settings. So many pedals on the market - and all of them are very different. Looper X is a good option for sure, but just know that just like playing guitar or any instrument, looping is its own beast - and there's a learning curve and experience that you just cant skip. All the best tho brother!!
@@carlwockner intense thanks brother. I'm working on that. I have time now and taking time off from gigging to learn this. I really appreciate your advice. 🙏
Thanks mate! No these tones have taken quite some time to dial in. But the order of importance is: - 1. Guitar Pickup, 2. quality effect pedals, 3. playing ability. 4. Effect Settings. Hope that helps mate!
Your an inspiration man! This video actually peaked my interest in the Looperboard and I ended up buying it to replace my RC-505. I’m loving the audio Routing and customization. I’ve mapped a midi controller so I can control things by hand as well as feet depending on the needs of the song. Saw your post over on FB. Hope those buttons hold up for you!
Carl, it was great to hear you and meet you at Analog. I’m inspired to explore live looping for myself now. Now if I can get my guitar 🎸 skills up to half of what yours are….and I can find a proper mic stand mannequin. 🤔 Cheers
Hi man..beacuse of you i buy a headrush looperbored..can u make a video step by step how to loop correctly ? It will be really helpful. Maby u can bulid your own course you know..
Just ordered some spires. Do you actually setup a room mic or anything so you can hear the crowd. Requests and banter? Or just pull them out when punters come up. Or just point at your ears to let them know you're not taking requests? 😜
As in, after you’ve recorded it? Yes I believe you can sync the loop to the tempo, but if you accidentally bump the tempo button when you don’t plan to you it’s hard to get back. I disabled mine for this reason and also because I don’t use a click or specific tempo lock. You can have as many instruments as you like.
Crazy new rig Carl! Looking forward to seeing it in the next vids. I'm considering a SY-1 instead of an OC-3 for bass and versatility in a compact live loop rig. Have you tried the SY-1 with your mini Maton?
Hi Carl, is there a noticeable difference between the sound quality of the Headrush Looperboard and the Boss RC-300 when just playing through an amp/PA system? I've heard the overdubs are clearer on the Headrush Looperboard, just wondered if you'd agree? Thanks.
It all depends on how clean your signal is, but yes it’s cleaner on the Headrush. You barely notice it at all unless it’s in a studio setting or on a large stage system, but part of the tone change comes from the RC300 having a built in limiter on the output and the headrush doesn’t, so you need to be much more precise with your gain staging on the headrush otherwise you’ll distort easy
Epic bro!!! Need to do a video on how the hell you pack everything up!
Agreed! Packing and moving that must be a pain in the ass lol
totes
One on the way mate!
Totally!!!!!!!!!
Thanks bro. This video really helped me compare my own setup to yours. Also loved your music.

Stunning Video, as always! Thanks. You are actually the first artist I see with a Blueboard on the floor. I also use one with my iPad and ForScore.
Amazing creation

Great video although the boss rc 300 is 16bit 22.4kHz? (CD quality)
