Strange comment. 'Cause it sounds to me like they're not loving it at all - they're impatient for Gawwwyyy! to return to the stage and play something else that they know. I suspect he terminated it prematurely on all three nights because of the hostile audience reaction (not because he hadn't written the spoken verses, which he undoubtedly had - interview evidence is that "the Debbie incident" had already come and gone). I daresay Gary deliberately provoked his audience by throwing this ambient, slightly dissonant, Eno-esque piece into the last act of the show, killing the momentum built up by that sequence of uptempo Telekon-era songs and chilling the atmosphere. But come the time of the actual concerts, he wasn't prepared for the actual effect it had.

Most people don't know the famous Canadian in gauze. Nash the Slash just as iconic as Gary Newman. And a big part of a big Canadian trio called FM. Listen to the iconic album Black Noise by FM.
Hate to say but you can't hear the violin. The first few minutes are from the album version recordin with drum machine. Nash was top of the game at the time so not sure why they cut it.
prokesuk You are correct. It is the exact recording from the album. There’s no way to replicate that ambient violin and sound so precisely. While Cry The Clock Said is one of my all time favorite Numan songs, I’m not sure a live concert is the right setting for it. It’s a quiet, introspective song. The cheering and whistling just detracts from its meaningful stillness and emotion. I think the TeleTour audience was a bit confused as this was from the forthcoming album “Dance” and I don’t think it had been released yet. If it had not yet been released, it’s interesting that Numan had already written and recorded Cry The Clock Said while doing the TeleTour. I wonder how much of Dance was written on the road while touring and when he had time to record Dance.
Opportunity lost for a really different version of a great song. Only difference from DANCE is that it just ends 4 minutes too early. Still: when the crowd handclaps enter, it's a great moment.
@@aw3752 It's not a "recording". I had reproduced the same sounds on the album using a Linn Drum machine and a couple of Rolands (I remember one was the 808). It took time but I was able to get close using filters and flanging it through a Delta Echo. The EQ on the live version is slightly different as well to make sure it had good throw through the venue. I have been to the same arena for Bowie in 2002 or so and it is a challenging venue for a sound engineer. All the keyboard sounds were variations saved on presets and, again, if you listen, they arse altered slightly (some, like the "bell" were standard presets, some created by GN).
Yes, it was a shorter version than the one released on the Dance album. I suspect it was shortened because it was new, unknown to the audience at that point and more of a taster of what was to come.
At the time who had the balls to do this just incredible
RIP Nash and TY for ALL the musical memories
I was present and it still brings tears of joy to my eyes now... NUMAN forever!!!
Me too
Great wasnt it, awaiting this years concert with great anticipation, extremely excited, Ive not seen a gig for fair number of years now.
this era of NUMAN and these songs always make me tear up. and I am a pretty manly man.
This is truly a beautiful version of ‘Cry the clock said’ love it…x
