@Linda Reyes English is still a second language for Rose. It's not her native tongue, and her family doesn't speak English, so it wasn't spoken in the home. This is yet another way she is culturally curious and open to others, and Ed is not.

Luke Gibson nope, it’s good to know the past when the trust is build. To have trust, you need to build a relationship. A relationship is build with the present not the past of somebody. When building something, it’s one step at a time. Life is about what we make of what we have now. Ed dont want a relationship, he want someone he can control and who will obey. He doesn’t show love, nor care about Rose’s opinions nor feelings. He wants to know her past not to build a relationship because you dont need the past to start building but to impose control on Rose

This is why ex-cons have a harder time getting a job, because people lose trust in them based on their past. If you argument was correct there is no reason to lock up people who committed a serious crime because "its the past, who cares?".
Luke Gibson you are not trying to be in relationship with an criminal or an ex-com. I understand your point but you cannot clean the fish before catching it. Relationship is a step by step process. Each step comes with their privilege and needs. Ed is in no position to ask her about her past because their relationship is not at this point. Relationship is not a job also. Like if I had a restaurant, I would never employ someone that I know cannot stop eating but of course that person could still be my friend. You cannot ask a girl about her past if you’re still trying to win her heart, because it would be an attempt to make her feel less valuable so she would have to cope with what you offer. This is what Ed is trying his best to do.

Yeah, I am too. Sometimes when my feelings are stronger and uncontrollable I tend to walk away (avoid) and sometimes I just keep it to myself (denying that I am affected) and pretend that everything is alright without noticing that it grows, becoming more sensitive and grumpy and when it fills up, I burst out. Losing and messing everything then regretting for acting in an impulse.
Meanwhile, Rose manages well her feelings and good at recognizing it. She's also good at expressing it.

It was obvious that Rose doesn’t wanna talk about the past is because it hurts her and she might be a kind of person who forgets to move on. In the cultural perspective, mothers being left behind their baby daddies is a shame to the society, family and self. That is what Ed don’t understand. She might have experienced people making rumors about her and judge her while making a huge role as a mother alone. Asians value their image differently compared to western culture.
What really gets under my skin is a feeling that her past could involve trauma/ abuse and this f’n no neck wants her to tell everyone on TV.
Girl is smart. If Ed asked her about her past in private, maybe AFTER some trust has been established between them, Rose def would have told him. But on tv? As some fodder for some shitty reality show? She knows her story's going to edited and her life dissected more than it already has. She only agreed to do the show because Ed promised to take her with him to the US. She was doing it because he wants to do the show. She's not even paid for it but he is.
I know what you're talking about. Even until now, single mothers are still vilified although not as horribly as before, but still got talked about, gossiped, rumors flying about them while the men can do whatever. My aunt refuses to divorce her abusive husband who not only used to beat her, but also rape her (he even tried to kill her too out of jealousy one time, it got my parents and police involved). They have a son together and he lived with her full time. She remains the breadwinner until now while he's unemployed but she rather stays married to him and pays for his household (he got married to 2 other women- it's legal where I came from, and he's Muslim) so he could live with his other wives rather than live with her. She's a CEO of a huge corporation but would rather stay married that than get a divorce an be a single mother. It's crazy how 'modern' she can be, but very 'conservative' in that view of single motherhood = more shameful than be in an abusive marriage.

@@TaurusMoonlight I think getting a vasectomy is more than just not wanting kids lot of people especially younger ppl will say I dont want kids and then it changes or they want kids and then realize how much their life would change or how expensive kids are and change their mind. To have a surgery to make sure you cant cause a pregnancy is so much bigger that won't change. I can't have kids and I've known since I was 18 so when I went on my 1st date with my now husband I asked if he wanted kids and lucky for me he said no he doesnt want kids and asked why and I explained that If it's even a maybe on kids I am not the right person for him and we shouldnt waste time because I will never be able to have kids and I couldn't take care of a child so I am not open to adoption, as I feel a child deserves to have more than I can give.

Here's how I see Rose: she is a very moral, clever, honest, simple person (simple in the best possible meaning of the word - uncorrupted by the world). Protecting your sexual health is a good thing, it can affect your general health and fertility but it was immature and mean to let this play out on camera. Stop saying you love someone and then proceed to just humiliate them. She’s not a sex doll and he should treat her with respect.
It also bothers me that he's ok making her "risk" the healthcare in the Philippines so he is comfortable screwing her. But he won't take that same risk. I'd never expect my husband to do something I was unwilling to do myself like that.
The part that really bothered me, in an interview with Entertainment Tonight or something, soon after this episode (remember he was making his round with interviews while Rose's side was totally ignored up until this week on TLC), he claimed, he immediately took an STI test after he got home to make sure Rose didn't give him anything. Which shocked the crap out of me. He said, oh I tested clean. I'm like..uh ok. Fine. Wow. Idk if they actually had sex, he said they did, but she claimed that she said, 'no' to the producers but they cut out that part, so she's very upset at TLC and decided to go live on IG a few weeks ago.

They just started dating! Always joking, laughing, frickin’ amazing food...Also, I was in an accident and had to undergo 4 spinal surgeries . Total nightmare. I have had to go into the OR for these really invasive nerve blocks and spinal injections at least 50 times in the last 16 years. The Filipino nurses-mostly young men in their 20’s and 30’s-have been so incredible. They know that I am nervous and in pain, and they are always so nice, joking, distracting me from it all but so competent and caring. They have really been a blessing.
