All the stories I've heard from that night, and I've never heard that Brody was supposed to wrestle Spivey that night. I can't believe I didn't know that.
A lot of papers showed Spivey’s picture because he was to be Brody’s opponent that night, and Spivey has said that many thought he killed Brody.
@@travismcdonald6576 Man. I had no idea. I feel like I just discovered something new, but it's something I should have known 35 years ago.
@@dhornjr1. They wrestled the night before in a tag and met the first time ever that night. Had Brody lived, they were to have a feud. Interesting that later on Spivey teamed with Hansen in Japan for a bit.
I was there in Bayamon, and yes, Spivey was supposed to wrestle Brody that day.
@@travismcdonald6576 Was Spivey the heel at the time?
I liked Waylon Mercy. It would have been a great gimmick if Spivey hadn't gotten hurt.😎
The Bray Wyatt character was an incarnation of the Waylon Mercy character.
Dan Spivey looks like a young Stone Cold Steve Austin
Yeah but bigger.....
He’s gotta be a decade older than Austin
I agree. "Stunning" Steve Austin lookalike, for sure
That’s who I thought the thumbnail was
@@BiggDoggyDogg me too
Big Dollar Dan with the big left hand
unrelated, but ask Dutch if he has any memories of his appearance on Family Fued.
Dan Spivey was at least 6'8 in shoes. I think Dutch underestimated his height like he did Hogan. 😂
In Vancouver years ago, I saw the US Express vs the Hart Foundation, but in singles. Rotunda won when Anvil got disqualified. But with Bret, he couldn't hold back a smile as the whole place was cheering. He beat Spivey. Some kid said something right near the exit and I saw Spivey pull the shirt over and hockey punch the fan. The kid was crying. Never saw him again and always wondered about that.
You have the best intro on TH-cam
Spivey hurt his knee playing college football, but the coach wouldn't let him get the surgery he needed right away. By the time the season ended, he was permanently messed up from not getting that surgery. Coach ruined his own player just to keep a gimp on the roster for a few more games. Smh...
Great tune by the Longpigs
Remember seeing a documentary on the Brody murder and it said the man who stabbed Brody had been brutalized during a match with Brody and nearly died in hospital. His head swelled to twice its size and caused a lengthy absence from wrestling bankrupting the guy. Then supposedly Brody was going to buy in to the promotion placing his spot on the roster in danger. The wrestler recovered and went on to wrestle again but took revenge on Brody.
Interestingly enough, Bobby Heenan was asked what he thought of Bruiser Brody during a shoot.
Heenan: "Never liked the man at all (Brody)....very selfish! He would come into a territory and have the mentality of wanting to stick it to the promoters. So what he would do is he would screw up matches purposely or try to destroy business. But he didn't realize there was a guy in that first match that was maybe making 50 bucks and needed that to pay his car payments, or maybe a child support payment some place, and if Bruiser Brody kills that business, that takes that poor guy out of 50 bucks and I believe when you're a top guy you owe something to everybody on that card...to be professional, and to make sure that you do it right. If you don't want to work for the guy (promoter), then tell him that, but don't screw the other guys on the card because they got to come back next week, you don't!"....
Dan Spivey is my 4th-5th cousin according to Ancestry DNA.
Or at least A Dan Spivey is my 4th or 5th cousin according to Ancestry DNA .
Have you ever met him?
@@Jewish.Redneck.HybridLet's just go with there's 1 Dan Spivey & he's your distant cousin. That's awesome
@@RobTheUndertaker nope I just noticed the name as I was scrolling through my shared DNA matches. Our familial connection is through my Paternal line. And since my dad was adopted at birth I haven't met any biological cousin on that side regardless of how closely related we are.
@@ChrisStoecker That's a good point. If I ever type it again I will keep that in mind.
Never heard that
I bought weed in the bad part of town. I literally stepped about 5 ft into the "bad part of town" (La Perla) told one guy I was looking for weed and next thing I knew at least ten guys were around me with a lovely array of smokeables
In all these years I’d never heard this …! Reason being ; it’s Hogwash
Exactly.
Spivey is delusional, but there's no way ANYONE in their right mind, includung Spivey, would think Bruiser Brody was going to job someone like him in 1988
@robearnest7613 go find him and tell him that to his face fucking mark
Best wrestling show on…..I am old school from the Gulas area, loved Dutch then and love him now. Keep it up Dutch, thumbs up
While listening to a story about a wrestler getting stabbed, the guy who did it getting away because of corruption, and the promoter likely having a hand in the whole thing.. You mean to tell me Dan Spivey didn't like it there?
Wasn't Spivey part of the Skyscrapers with Vicious at this time? " Lives are gonna change" -Waylen Mercy
If I portray any wrestling gimmick I wanted to (other than Thunderfoot of course), I'd be Waylon Mercy 100%..........know what I mean? Bring back Thunderfoot.
Apparently Danny was offered the role of Kane before Glenn Jacobs but was to injured and banged up and turned it down and the rest is history.
Spivey was in a movie from when I was a kid that I just rewatched called "Order of the Black Eagle" he played a barbarian henchman. Pretty dumb movie but it's entertaining.
I turned on wcwnwa back in like 91. Dannny spivey and mean mark were tagging. Never seen the powerbomb or 2 dudes standing almost 7 feet tall.
Couldn't have been 91, Mark was in the WWF by then.
It must have been over money. That's what mist murders are over
Yes, but more so for the fact Brody was supposedly going to buy into the PR territory and the rumor was one of the first things he was gonna do was get rid of Jose Gonzalez.
Couple that with the fact that it was known Brody didn't like Invader #2 (Gonzales) and many matches Brody had with Invader #2 over the years and he would legitimately beat up Gonzales in the matches. Tony Atlas said one time Brody hurt Gonzales so bad in a match, his head swelled up like a melon.
That's why he stabbed Brody, Gonzales hated him and if Brody successfully bought into the territory Gonzales wouldn't get booked in PR anymore.
Also he was able to get away with it because Carlos Colon who owned the territory supposedly owed Brody thousands of dollars and it's possible Brody was gonna used that debt partially to buy into PR.
I personally think Gonzales acted alone, but whem Colon found out Brody had died from his wounds the next day, he seized the opportunity and helped Gonzales cover it up.
@@robearnest7613 Cheers for the info...interesting read. Sounds like a couple of legit reasons
The best was lugar and brody in the cage. And brody. No selling. Lugar. Wanted outa tht cage 👋🤣
Lugar looked at Brody like the idiot that he was, and walked away like I would walk away from an idiot I saw in the park or something. I can’t believe people still embellish that whole thing.
@@60BloodyChamp60 and honestly it was a lousy thing to do to the fans that paid their money. While I get promoters did wrong wrestlers frequently, it was wrong to take it out on fans that came to see you.
Spivey was good in ring, but, he wasn't top tier good. Probably the reason he mostly competed over seas besides the old F & NWA/WCW brief runs.
The Skyscrapers were a great concept & Spivey was supposed to be "seasoned" member of the team, but, looking back now, he wasn't a great fit with the massive Sid Vicious lol.
He had knee problems and it made it hard for him to go, not surprising for his size. He was tough in a phone booth though.
I’d trust Dutch over anyone else.
I heard him change his story charge a few times.
Check out what Harley Race had to say about the Brody incident !
@kimbalxyz2 I know . The killing part is that a lot of folks talked about Harley Race like a dog after those handful of interviews. The thing is ther is a lot of truth in those comments and a lot of common sense behind them. Harley Race spoke truthfully and candidly about Bruiser Brody, and he didn't vary in any of his comments. Folks didn't like it but that's the it sometimes works.
Danny never won a championship in PR and the match never happened.
Wow Dutch sexist much? 😂
Oh look. Another conspiracy theory. Smfh.
Spivey was Stan Hansen's partner in Japan and got over there way more than He did in the US.
Although He was never WWC Champion,I wouldnt have been surprised if Carlos had put the belt on Him.If They put the belt on Grizzly Boone, who wouldn't They have put it on?!
Remember the list of jobbers Lawler put the belt on in Memphis just so He could win it back and end up being a 40 time champion?
