My husband and I stay in Port El kantoui while visiting Tunisia. We are from southern Germany and I always say we were part of the Roman Empire just as you (cities like Mainz or Trier) were. My husband loves football (soccer🙃) and Coffee, I love cooking, plants and ceramics - always something to talk about. We always book a tour with an official tourist guide, we call the same taxi driver and his son, we drink and eat outside the hotel and sometimes take the louage. If you want to shop in a more european style for good fixed prices, there are official tourist shops. We bought beautyful pieces over the years from very different places like scarfs, handbags, a small fountain and met many nice people. And we got many good infos on the plane from Germany, like what is considered a good tip a the moment. Also we can kind of look like local tourists, if we want to. And you are right just walk away and say that you will not buy something politely.
These are valuable tips Rena, thank you for contributing to the discussion! I definitely want to go back to Tunisia and visit some more places, especially in the South
Amazing, dude. Seeing Tunisia through your eyes was a delight. You're an awesome individual. Keep it up. Following your journey, wherever it may take you. Also, genius move taking that Halawa back with you. That stuff is incredible!
Cheers bro! Unfortunately the Halawa did not last as long as I would have hoped...let's just say I have no off button once I open one of those! And I would like to say a huge thanks to you as well for showing me other parts of Tunisia through your amazing videos. I'm following your journey too and look forward to meeting up with you somewhere on our travels - it's a small world out there :)
@@willieexplore Yeah, I could easily devour a full Halawa in one sitting. Yes, we will definitely meet up eventually! I'm currently looking up things to do in London. Great series of videos Willie, you were a true gentleman, showing respect and interest, and bravo for staying strong with the hasslers. I hope you visit again but this time I recommend visiting the south, it's another Tunisia, the desert and palm trees, also the hospitality of southern people is one of their best traits. Cities like Tozeur, Douz and Matmata are so beautiful, just avoid summer and pick a time between December and March.
Thank you kindly Bernabeu Eagle, I really appreciate it. It was an absolute pleasure to visit Tunisia and to make this series. I will definitely check out / research those places in the South - I'm grateful for those suggestions! I've heard that the South is very different both culturally and geographically, so it will be nice to experience that firsthand.
Cheers Sneezy, it was a very fulfilling experience and I really hope to be back for that second series. I hope these tips help others in their quest to explore beautiful Tunisia!

good tips for people who have a small budget and want to discover the country. tunisia has different facades, the extreme luxury in the 5 star hotels and expensive places for rich tourists and rich locals and the side you showed for normal locals and tourists (explorers) who enjoy their vacation differently.
Thanks for watching! My Tunisia series was shot in November / December months and it was still relatively cold. Not sure about February but it will definitely be hotter.

Cheers Dew, really appreciate the hospitality of all the Tunisians including yourself! It is not that I didn't like Tunis; as I mentioned, I really enjoyed parts of the city and found it a very useful base. I just think there are lots of places to explore outside the capital - as in any country. Hope to be back soon!
YES, We are so proud of our country Tunisia🇹🇳 For information, Africa was the first name of Tunisia Ifriqia. We are Carthage 3200 years of civilisations. 😉
It's been very entertaining Willie, till next time! or shall I say series! Something that might be worth noting is that Bizerta, Tunis, Hammamet are all considered part of one region, the North East. The North West region is quite different as it sits on the Khoumirie mountains extension of the Atlas mountains. Tabarka is the touristic hotspot for relaxation and fancy seaside hotels but for those feeling adventurous, Ain Draham 25km south of Tabarka is the perfect destination during the snow season or spring, people call it "little Switzerland". The region is less known to foreigners due to the airport situation in Tabarka and the incomplete A3 highway. There are also many ancient Carthaginian/Roman/Berber ruins to discover including the famous World Heritage Site of Dougga. I hope I gave you a couple of interesting ideas to consider:) Grüße aus DE.
Thanks Mouath! It has been my pleasure. Really appreciate all these comments on my videos and it goes without saying that I am grateful for you watching my videos and supporting my channel! Interesting to hear your views on the North East and North West. I remember travelling in Chile some years ago, which is also a very narrow country from North to South - much like Tunisia, albeit a lot longer obviously. One of the Chilean locals mentioned to me that there is very little concept of East and West in their country. I really hope to be back for that Series 2! It will be awesome if I can return.
Hello, I didn't realise you're still in Tunisia. When I travelled in January, it was freezing. Please tell me this was taken earlier in 2022 because you're in t shirt. There are 'set price' shops in Hammamet which I buy. I really am happy that you showed this video because the news painted a different picture. I wanted to go again as the sun there is good for my health. People are willing to help but even them don't know some areas. I know this because the places I discovered while walking, my local friends were surprised about the areas. Thanks for the tips. I hope you got to see the secret gardens. (I wonder if it's still there?) As a tourist, I didn't get hassle much because I'm brown. They were calling me Shakira but I look no even close as beautiful as she is. I'm 5 ft and chubby😂. Maybe because my hair was long at that time 😂, I'm going to book for June 2023.
Thanks for all your comments on my channel and sharing your own experiences of Tunisia Anna! Really appreciate you taking the time to do this :) This video was recorded last year just before I returned from Tunisia...wish I was still there though!
"the louage have a reputation of being unsafe" haha even the foreigners know that. That reputation is because some drivers drive like hours and hours to make more money and don't sleep, and sometimes bad accidents happens with louages, also the roads in general are unsafe in Tunisia a lot of drivers don't care about safety rules, neither the government to make roads safer
@@willieexplore I would take them again as well of course (well actually most of the times i prefer to rent my own car in Tunisia) but just explaining where this reputation comes from :D
